Dope! Nice work, see you're looking for cloth shades. I'm excited to see this as you iron out additional details. Good job!

Yes that would make this lamp perfect, just need to figure out or find someone who makes lamp shades. I think I might go on Etsy and search.

You can always remove the inner diffuser (plastic) from the lamp shade. This is a great idea and something I will have to implement in my new home build.

Thanks, the present set up has worked great! I have found that the plastic liner has not altered the sound for me. I have not found a liner that was not glued to the exterior cloth. I’m sure there is a way to create, but have not figured it out. If you come up with a solution let me know😁.
      Thanks again!

@@PeterWaldraff I went down a rabbit hole on this lol.. I watched a few videos on how to make a lamp shade and the simplest solution would be to either cut out a circle for the driver in the diffuser and wrap it in cloth or drill a bunch of small holes in the vicinity. The issue with the plastic would be slight reverb, but that might not be critical for surrounds.

I know that feeling. I was obsessed with a solution my self and gave up and just bought a store bought shade. 🤣. So, I have tried cutting a hole in a shade, however when I turned the light on I could see the opening. Even without the light on you could tell, also the cloth gets sucked in slightly. Looked bad.
I then tried building my own from wood and cloth, but it would not hold the shape. It created a concave looking shape. Was not horrible but still did not look great. I emailed someone who makes shades and she responded once and then never got back to me. I will continue to look for the perfect solution. If you figure it out let me know😁.
Your idea of small holes, I like And did think of but never tried and assumed I would just see little holes through the cloth. Maybe little holes is the solution but with multiple layers of cloth to block out from seeing holes. Believe or not it sounds pretty good with the regular shade but still would like it the way I intended it to be designed🙂.

      @@PeterWaldraff Search for
      '1/16" x 24" x 48" Polypropylene Perforated Sheet with Staggered Rows - 1/8" Holes on 3/16" Centers Item #: 45741'
Maybe a liner could be made from that and wrapped in cloth. Might need to find a longer sheet to provide the correct diameter, but alt least there is something out there..
I think in my design I will put my speaker in the base and make a cloth surround for it and use as traditional lamp assembly up top. It will bring the sound stage down a bit, but since I have Atmos it is recommended to have the surrounds just a few inches about ear level, so it might work well in my use case.

I'm really digging the copper pipe and black braid over the speaker/power wires. Question, would routing the power and speakers wires so close together have any impact on audio signal quality? Great work man

No, still sound great, plus light is usually off during movies, so no issue. 🙂
      Thanks

The power is only 12 volts DC, even if it were a pulsating Dc(dirty dc some people call it), the voltage and current are not large enough to induce anything into the audio. If it were 120 volts then yea it might be an issue.

World be fine if it was a full cloth shade but that hard plastic is bad. Also there is no reason for the speaker grill on the speaker.

I agree with you. I tried that and my sewing skills are bad, did not look good. I will continue to look for someone who can make me a shade that is all cloth. Not as as easy as it looks to make a shade that holds it circular form.
As for the grill, I guess you are right, I will remove that.
      Thanks
