Going scorched earth on civilians isn't exactly a noble act. I have less respect for Sherman, Grant and Lincoln. But alas history is written by the victors. I've had 3 houses along the south end of the March path and there is still something eerie about the area.

My company in basic got to participate in a parade for a holiday. They picked all the responsible people and ROTC kids who could march. We did so good that the DS called the commander to ask if we could get McDonald's. He said no, so DS told us to eat the candy in our MREs as a reward. It was one of those rare moments where the DS kinda chills and talks to us normally.

My steps dad's father was in the Navy in WW2 and they fired the deck guns without him expecting it and he fell down and broke a bottle of whiskey in his back pocket and cut his ass.
They tried to give him a purple heart and he absolutely refused.
Shermans mission was to "make Georgia howl" And he was wildly successful in accomplishing that mission.
He was. Especially when his troops were raping and slaughtering women and children. Same tactics he used against the Native Americans.

Years ago, on basic training for the Canadian military I was ordered to put a picture on my desk. I cut out the one instructors picture from when he got promoted to Sgt. The next day he found out, rushed into whatever class we had and ate the picture in front of us. I don't know who really won that.
Angry cop ran circles around all these guys, the humility and poised demeanor of fat speaks well against overall hubris; but what can 2 army reservists & vet say against an active... the humility and levity speaks volumes without saying a word. And I pissed myself laughing. Love this channel full send.

1:42:00 hey something similar happened at the end of my BCT, someone asked a drill sergeant if he was gonna miss us and I was curious so I looked at the DS waiting for his answer, he notices me looking at him and says "get down Cruz". Walked away without answering the question and I'm just left doing push ups.

The whole show was great, but the best part was the two way intercom story at the end.
I remember going through Basic at Fort Benning in 1991, and finding out the Drill Sergeants could hear us. Man, did the conversations in the barracks get a lot more subdued after that happened.

So funny Drill SGT story. I spent my whole career in the Army National Guard, and went to basic in '02. Fast forward 10ish years and I am in the Oklahoma Army National Guard and have been a E-5 for about a year. We at Fort Sill (one of the bases that also happen to have basic and AIT and by extension Drill Sergeants) on annual training and myself and an another SGT are at one of the shopettes getting water for our joes and we are walking out of the door each holding a case of water. As we are exiting a Drill SGT is walking in. We both see the Campaign hat walking in and plaster ourselves on each of the doors like a couple of fuzzies and chime in together "Good afternoon Drill Sergeant" to which he stops, looks at both of us, chuckles and says "at easy sergeant's" and walk on by. We both laughed at the situation and couldn't stop laughing about it the whole remainder of that AT. It's funny how much Drill Sergeants instill that fear about the round brown and how even when I was an NCO years later my immediate response when surprised by one was shock/fear.
All 4 of you need to do another episode this is gold
