Going scorched earth on civilians isn't exactly a noble act. I have less respect for Sherman, Grant and Lincoln. But alas history is written by the victors. I've had 3 houses along the south end of the March path and there is still something eerie about the area.

My steps dad's father was in the Navy in WW2 and they fired the deck guns without him expecting it and he fell down and broke a bottle of whiskey in his back pocket and cut his ass.

My company in basic got to participate in a parade for a holiday. They picked all the responsible people and ROTC kids who could march. We did so good that the DS called the commander to ask if we could get McDonald's. He said no, so DS told us to eat the candy in our MREs as a reward. It was one of those rare moments where the DS kinda chills and talks to us normally.
The Drill Sargeant Hennesy story is the IRL version of "Theres no need to wonder where your God is! Because he's right here, and fresh out of mercy"

Angry cop ran circles around all these guys, the humility and poised demeanor of fat speaks well against overall hubris; but what can 2 army reservists & vet say against an active... the humility and levity speaks volumes without saying a word. People seem to have forgotten that about 90% of drill sergeant school is learning how to absolutely roast someones life whenever they do the smallest thing wrong, and have a straight face while doing it. This comment brought to you in support of all the depressed trees at drill sergeant school.
This was the fever dream I wanted from having these two on the podcast. Great show guys.
For those who don’t know, Sherman was Grant’s right-hand man. He was the one that helped Grant stay sober at times.
Later on in the war, Sherman had a theory that if he destroyed the moral of the confederate people that the military would fall soon after. So him and his men split from Grant and left the supply lines. So Sherman and his men lived off the land and anything that they couldn’t use was burned (this included entire towns and cities).
This did NOT disappoint!! ..so funny. Was hoping you guys would dip into the military stories.

Precursor navy veteran, ordered new secure electrical panel because the old one got filled with sea water. The new one arrived locked with a key with a note that read " this key doesn't fit lock". Also it was not cylinder type key like the lock takes, it was like a house key.

1:42:00 hey something similar happened at the end of my BCT, someone asked a drill sergeant if he was gonna miss us and I was curious so I looked at the DS waiting for his answer, he notices me looking at him and says "get down Cruz". Walked away without answering the question and I'm just left doing push ups.

Is that there is only ever one single sergeant major of the army.
That is the tip top enlisted rank. That is as high as it gets, before you become an officer.
And there can only ever be one man, in the entire army, holding that rank.
