You can deduce in this world, that there are people who find happiness in ignorance and the mundane, and there are people who are not satisfied and seeking more. I think the people who do not like you, don't like you because you're rocking the boat and represent change... The fact that everything is on a track, represents that every movement is per-determined. Every choice you have to make is also pre-determined, you only have the choice to do it, or to not do it. But if you were to choose not to do it, you are simply choosing to keep living a mundane life of fishing and fueling in a never ending cycle. This seems like a world in complete limbo, that exists for the sake of existing, it is a simple illusion.. Dispelling this illusion is probably extremely terrifying to many of the world's inhabitants. There is the possibility that each inhabitant represents pieces of Yan's life. If so, you can deduce that Yan's life is very mundane, it is cyclical like many human's lives. You wake up, eat, work, have some pleasures, and sleep, over and over and over again. This world is extremely material, everything is transactional with very little meaning behind the transaction; you fish to make money, you use the money to re fuel, you also use money to upgrade to work faster, you work faster to make more money, it never ends. In this world, female interaction is also highly transactional-- they provide fuel (ego) for money (almost like a prostitute), or you are provided fuel if you are deemed to be a worthwhile provider (a partner). In this world, everything is acutely base level.
I agree with much of your analysis, although I never considered the symbolic nature of the tracks themselves. I like that, really good idea I love how you pointed out how many characters (but not all) fear the player character and their actions because it threatens the status quo that they are used to and have accepted. Even though many have accepted it I personally think (at least) some still have a distain for their everyday life (i.e. the status quo) and yet also have a distain for those who threaten it, and I really love that because it adds a complexity to many of the characters and their dialogue. I don’t want to say anything else so as not to spoil any info that comes later in the playthrough, but thanks very much for watching and commenting
@@DarkflameRaime and thank you for your thoughtful reply! I really enjoyed watching your series on this game. You definitely earned a subscriber out of me, and I'll be combing through your other series.
That’s so nice to hear, I really appreciate it! I highly recommend my Ecstatica series because that’s another really interesting and relatively unknown retro game Also I have a few videos where I look at multiple games with low player counts (that series is called “Steam Games That No One Plays”) Also I do live stream from time to time so maybe I’ll see you in one of those, no pressure of course. Thanks again for the kind words and comments
I'm pretty sure Sui also means "water". Like Suicune (the legendary Pokemon of yore) or Suisei (the legendary UA-camr. Also the name of the planet Mercury in Japanese).
