    I bet they have a bunch of Cats and Cummins at the farm implement yard without all the computer malarkey (seek north). Maybe an older Volvo or a HumVee motor? There are hundreds of salvage/scrap boats in Florida, due to the last few hurricanes. When are you going to stitch Enigma into one piece?

    Go with a set of 6BTs! They made a marine version of the 6BT and I know guys running them with THOUSANDS of hours. It probably wouldn't be too hard to source one and I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue converting over a on-road to a marine engine. No computers, just a simple mechanical pump!

    Finally working on the house boat . Thank you I've been waiting for it

    Honestly, as long as you get the throttle input to both ECUs (either an added relay or just redundant throttle potentiometers), I think the original fire pump control board should work just fine, since it just switches ECUs when one fails, so I don't see any reason not to keep it, as long as you reprogram both ECUs exactly the same way. I think all the redundancy is really a big plus, and would try to keep as much of it as possible. Personally, I would fix that fire pump engine, but maybe with a blown parts engine. Farm equipment mechanics might have a few of those sitting around (since JD often sends out whole new engines when one fails, including all the small parts), and then you would only need new gaskets and the software (which could be an interesting video as well). If fixing that red JD isn't an option, I would go with MAN, since I had quite good experiences with them, their aluminium engines are rather light for the power they make, and they are EVERYWHERE in Europe (boats, trains, trucks, literally anything with a piston engine), though I don't know about availability in the US.

    I'd go with marine CAT or Cummins for diesels. To me I'd find older units that are still mechanical injected. The less electronics the better. It is a house boat not a race boat. More reliable the better. You can still "tune" them to make decent power. But even if you still want the modern electronics I'd still go with CAT or Cummins.

    Hi friend, I'm from Santos, Brazil and I always follow your videos, I'm a big fan, in terms of engines, people who own boats here in Brazil, really like Mercedes engines, because maintenance is easier in terms of ease. of parts that fit together, and you can buy the parts at any truck store, as everything is shared. Mercedes diesel engines are very good.

    See if Caterpillar or Cummins are more self-serviceable. Also, ask your local Farm Equipment Parts Suppliers their opinion.

    I would vote Cummins 6bt a solid engine with a proven reliability. You can even get them without a computer.

    Diesel Engines can be quieter especially if they are overpowered and have a low rpm torque curve because for example at 65 my cummins sits at 1000rpm it uses less fuel & 1000rpm is quiet! You could solve this low RPM problem with the right gear box Remember Diesels put out a metric shit ton of torque so spinning a large gear wont be an issue! also diesels tend to be deeper more base type of sound that is more tollerable! The question is the engine compartment sound proof cuz alot of noise comes from the actual engine itself not out of the exhaust and in that case does not matter what you put in it!

    have you considered using seven harbor freight predator lawn mower engines? put it in solid works and see what it gets up to.

    As I said with the hydraulic steering crab boats run manly Caterpillar diesel . Do you have to run "John Deere " Operating system on that engine ?? Or could you run a "Cat" O.S. on it , it's just a engine ,,right ??? The O.S. doesn't know who made the part it is controlling .... Right ? Aaron from "Flying Sparks Garage" (YT) is a diesel mechanic . You might want to hit him up thru is social to see if he has any ideas .... I'm thinking diesel , which you might only need one engine ,if you haven't thought of that already. Good Luck !!!! Lovin the boat content !!!

      That is a great question about the O.S

      This part of your comment made me almost snort my drink "Or could you run a "Cat" O.S. on it , it's just a engine ,,right ??? The O.S. doesn't know who made the part it is controlling .... Right ?" Just because I am a network engineer and Cisco made a network switch series called catalyst and their operating system was called "Cat-OS". The 6509 was a beast coming in at (Height)32.7 x (Width)17.3 x (Depth)18.1 and weighting up to 280lbs when fully configured. So at least in height they are in the same category as these two engines. Though I think in this case the operating system would have a hell of a time trying to control the engine. LOL

    I get disliking jd for the right to work issue, but giving all the sympathy to the farmers also has no merit, all these farmers are upset because their "brand new" equipment can't be diy fixed, my question is than, why are you buying brand new? Why are so many farmers working with decades old equipment, staying profitable but these guys are contemplating suicide because they can't be a little bit more comfortable in a new tractor... I just don't buy it.

    • @noahbeckmann1363
      @noahbeckmann1363 16 годин тому +1

      It comes down to repair cost. The farmers running old equipment are not running as much acres as the farmers with the newer bigger equipment. Don't hate on farmers if you don't know what they go through or how to run a farm.

    • @moderncoaches
      @moderncoaches 15 годин тому

      @noahbeckmann1363 so your saying, don't hate on them for causing themselves problems, who told them they need to run more acerage? Every farmer I see is always driving the newest pick ups, and live I'm the fatest houses, whatever their having to figure out, doesn't even account for the subsidies... farmers are the conservatives vs. Of nurse's and teachers.
