Yeah but I went to a shop who kept telling I need to buy this or that after like $500 I got bad and bought a aftermarket version of my jetta led/ hid projector headlights massive improvement.why do some just like to jerk you around, and not know what they are talking about. I told them simple I drive a lot at night so I just want a bright light like the new cars do.
If you can find aftermarket DOT projector headlight assemblies to replace your reflector type, I highly recommend it. This is the only way I’d ever use even quality LED’s. With a properly designed LED( two sides, thin, and placed in same position as the halogen filament) a reflector type still tends to have too much “spill” or glare for oncoming traffic. As a side note projectors have an internal mask that block light above a certain point. This helps immensely in fog!

I love how the projector headlights look which is why I'm changing my reflector headlights for projectors headlights later today on my Elantra 2,016 Limited.

Lynx Genisys that’s a very generalised statement. There are plenty of junk LED bulb kits that are horrible with bad light throw and low lumens due to high colour temperatures. HID kits like morimoto on the other hand come with specific projector beams with superior light beam and brightness.

My Outlander had a projector low beam with a seperate reflector high beam. Fantastic combination for factory lights, particularly since my area has potential wildlife on the road at night.
This man is very good at explaining things. I wish i had seen his video sooner. But now i know what direction to go in. I have 2 headlights on a yamaha tdm 850 one is a projector. I fitted a led bulb to the projector and it was worse than the halogen bulb. So that backs up what this man has said. Im giving this guy and his video a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Rating.
I love projector headlights so much better! All my cars have had reflectors and my new car I recently bought has projectors and I love them so much better. I love the straight even cutoff projectors provide so the light isn’t scattered all over the place
Not only are they a brighter but they are also much more freindly to oncoming cars that have the see your headlights. I could literally stare directly at the headlights on my car for a prolonged time and not be blinded much. The worst phase for headlights was when there were cars released from the factory with reflector Xenon lights that blinded everyone and gave HIDs/Xenons a bad name that still exists to this day.
If projector was reflector and reflector looked like projector then reflector projector could be turned into reflectors projection. Dude man you need to reflect what you projected for 15 mins. Reflect you, son of a projection.
So if the projectors reflector has more projected reflection over the projected reflections light then the reflectors projector can also be a good choice to reflect and project on your reflector or projector? Or was it projector is a better choice then reflector because the projector projects high beam reflector detector projector inspector.
I've tried them all, and hid are the brightest but blind incoming traffic, so I only do led now they last way longer and have a better beam pattern if you install them correctly .
Once I got my FR-S with factory projector headlights after years of driving older cars with awful dim reflector housings, I told myself I'm done living that crappy headlight life. I got the Diode Dynamics 35W HID conversion kit for the low beams and I could not be happier with the superior light output compared to stock. Then, after driving my dad's Genesis with factory LED highs, I decided I need that, too, so I ordered some GTR lighting LEDs from you guys. Can't wait to get them and try them out.
Great explanation! I just just purchased a Dodge Durango and it's my first vehicle with projector headlights. I was curious about the design and engineering of them and this video answered all of the questions I had.
Great description. I was wondering why when I turned on and off the high beams on my vehicles with projectors that I was hearing a shuttering sound. I thought something was wrong because my previous vehicle used the projector and reflector combo. The high beams used a separate bulb with the reflector.
Projector LED's with 8000k lights or higher & you're seeing not just everything at night but you're also seeing into the future their so beautifully bright.
I love the projector style headlamps. The beam is much more directed. And you can install LEDs in them with no issues. LEDs in a reflector housing just scatters the light and blinds everyone.
i'd like to see a comparison of the beam and intensity of OEM haogen reflector x projector. It always seems that the projector gets a better beam pattern, at the cost of brightness.
jpaulo33 The light output does not change from reflector to projector. The projector simply focuses more of the light down onto the road for better visibility and less glare for oncoming traffic. It may seem like there’s less output, but in reality there is no difference.
My Golf mk4 originally had reflector headlights. Dipped and high beam! They light output is good but I want something more efficient like a projector and see better at night especially running LED bulbs in so it be nice and bright! So I swap the whole headlight to projector!😊 be thing I noticed is after I changed the headlights, that I had to readjust the headlights by myself rather than get somebody to do it!😊 I strongly strongly suggest to anybody that they must adjust their headlights so it’s not aiming too high or too low!
I read the regs regarding the “brightness” tolerances for your headlights. Your low beams need to operate below 3000 candelas, and high beams below 7000 candelas. Those numbers depend on your headlight housings. Basically, the wider angles your headlights are, the brighter the light you can pack. A 1700 lumen lightbulb can have a 135 cd rating, but the same light bulb in a narrower 20 degree beam can have a 18,000 cd rating.
Explain this to me again lol. Because I'm getting some Led halos and they have an option for 18.5k lumens ( I guessing that's between the 2 bulbs ). That seems TOO bright.
And that's why they pay the HR guy the big bucks, to break it down! It DOES matter which bulb and technology you use. Leave it to the pros at HR; I've used them twice with great results. I had to deal in both LED and HID technologies because of the two different vehicles I had. So glad they helped me pick the correct setup. If you can't wrap your head around it, the do as Thanos says, "move on!"
I will say that reflector headlights have been around a lot longer than projectors and that reflector headlights have come a long way in the past 5 years. A lot of modern cars with reflector headlights have pretty good throw and spread on the halogen level that compares well to halogen projectors.
Yes, the standards of lights today, seam to be more concerned with style and aerodynamics, than lighting up what you need on the road in front of you and a corner you are entering. The price of the car has little to do, that really makes no sense. I’ve been very critical of the headlights I use. I drove tractor trailers all my life, both local an regional, with a lot of night driving. Back in the late 70’s the Europeans had the best sealed beam type, or separate bulb/ housing setup, one company in particular, a French Company, I believe was spelled Cibie, that’s still available an great for older deals beam replacement in all 5-3/4” to 7”, plus rectangular in both sizes. That was the 7’, I used in my motorcycle and Mack Tractor I drove over 200,000 miles in three years! That were the best at the time and legal. Today I own a 2019 Chevy Colorado Crew Cab, 4x4, V6,,WT, that unfortunately comes with the reflector type, that are not that good as far as low beams go. But finally the same company he used above, MORIMOTO, had developed an LED, that you are able to adjust how it sits in the mount, so as to not scatter the light to blind oncoming drivers. That I can honestly tell you, the difference is night and day, pardon the expression, different than even the Sylvania Silver Star Ultra I had in the low beams and the ones I still have in the high beams actually look yellow now,, so I will need to get some MORIMOTO for my high beams, to get the most I’m able to.
This is a little confusing. Chris said in another comment that LED is not legal for street use. So upgrading from halogen to LED for a reflector housing is obviously not recommended. Does it help to stay off the radar because you actually adjusted the focus to the correct height?
@@wulimu I still greatly appreciate the increase in illumination across two lanes in front of me with the led low beam replacement and especially the high beam replacement. I really could care less, especially seeing as how I went through great efforts to be sure I won’t blind oncoming drivers, in anything street legal, that’s normally has more hight than a go cart. I’ve even driven up on my truck in a BMW Z3, that’s fairly low and I can honestly say I was not blinded by glare. Most importantly is the vast improvement I have SEEING at night with the LED’s.
Old school reflectors have a proper beam pattern for North America! The low beam shield could easily be cut to match that pattern. The flat cutoff being used is in my opinion one reason why so many people are always driving with high beams on. It's the only way to read road signs. 😢
Main problem with most projectors is they are spot lights with almost no side illumination. Most of the newer vehicles with adaptive lighting run fogs to make up for the deficiency, that being said the morimoto projectors have a much better spread than oem projectors but at the cost of some of the hotspot in the middle.
Going from a reflector to a projector on a ram this week I just ordered the harness from you guys for my 2017 to do this did I need to do that and also what the bulb would be an upgrade for the projector
Both are street legal and both are great options. Just because it's easy I would recommend the LED bulbs! headlightrevolution.com/led-headlight-bulbs/v-4-led-headlight-bulbs/
Great presentation 👍. I have Dodge Durango with HID projector but not giving enough long distance light up especially when we are on high speed. It is just lighting up well near to the vehicle's front. Any good advise please? I have philips crystal visian halogen pair with me unboxed will this help?
Question please: Ford Ecosport 2016. The strip light UNDER the headlight is not working. There are no fuses connected to this in the manual How do I fix it?
That would depend on what projector you are running, it sounds like that was an aftermarket projector kit that you have installed in that vehicle? Let us know that bulb size and we will totally be able to get a recommendation going for you!
I love my protector headlight in my caddy They actually turn the corner before I finish turning so I could see where I’m going try that with a reflector headlight
hey, i want led on my bmw s1000 r motorcycle, butt i have 1 reflector and 1 projector headlight, the bulbs now in my bike are, halogen i think, HB3/12V/60W. is high beam, projector headlight, H7/12V/55W, low beam reflector headlight, and two W5W/12V/5W, parking lights, 1 in bouth lights, butt what do i need ,to change them to LED, you maby now what i need, thx
I'm trying to convert an ae100 headlight with the h4 projectors but there's the cap that's blocking it. Can the cap be removed without opening the headlight
Hello, I appreciate the video and I know this is an older one but i was thinking of replacing my 95 ford explorers head light lens. I also wanted to keep it looking original. So i was wondering, what are the headlights from 90s vehicles called. because they had the cuts in the plastic lens like the old glass sealed ones but theyre made of plastic. are those considered reflective, or sealed? and should go for the clear reflective replacement that came out in the 2000s or should i just get a new original one that has all the cuts in the plastic lens itself?
2012 Ford Fusion i have is halogen projector. I want to use the new GTR Ultra 2.0 LED bulbs. I know this is an older video before those were out, so what's your opinion on those LED bulbs in halogen projectors?
I recently replaced headlight housings on a 2016 Honda Civic. The replacement housings included a projector low beam just like the original housing. The replacement fit perfectly but when we drove the car we noticed the top of the low beam was noticeably clipped. Investigating the new housing you can see a fixed shield / shutter that is responsible for clipping the beam. Is it possible that the original factory projector housing didn't use any type of shutter, or did we just not notice it before?
So we learn, halogen is old school as it can be, reflectors are clearer/wider visibility, Hid the best way to go because technology has been mastered and Led is the new cool source and its slowly getting there def an upgrade from reflectors but technology isnt there yet to compete with HID. Love it thanks bro
Halogen is indeed old school, but it's just a light source, like hid or led. The reflector or projector is imo the important part. True led lighting is on another level, not needing reflectors or projectors, but several leds on each side of the vehicle. They may each be in separate tiny projectors to focus output, but that's conjecture on my part.
Great video ! I would like to ask you if you think a quality led bulb (H4) is going to look good on an older car with glass headlights (it's a 1993 model). I didn't quite understand in what category of headlights I'm in. Thanks
I have 2015 Sonata 2.0t and have this issues of the projectors low beam headlights … a while ago the lighting began to diminish with spots and black lines that distract on the road. the bulbs were changed, the angle of visibility was adjusted, and the problem continues. Should I opt for new headlamps or will there be any way to replace the projector? Or do you suggest replacing it with some reflectors instead of projectors?
Hard to say for sure without seeing it, shoot us an email with some pictures so we can get a better idea of what you're seeing! 218-755-5200 Sales@HeadlightRevolution.com
How do I go by replacing headlight lens? I want to use my OEM projector and lens on my aftermarket headlights housing. I wasn't even able to use the light bulbs I purchased because the new aftermarket headlight housing projector is different from my OEM projector, which is 2008 Nissan Maxima.
That would be a very custom job, and you would need to crack open that headlight housing. The Retrofit Source has a great video on how to do a general retrofit, and a lot of the information will apply to your headlights! I have lined that video here: ua-cam.com/video/yAnw-7PvyEc/v-deo.html
I have a mercedes c class 2010 and i have a headlight unit that has like that dodge you showed in the video... one side for the low beam is a projector(at least it looks like that) and the other one for the hight beam reflective. So my question is now if i want to upgrade to lets say LED bulbs, do i need to buy 4 LED bulbs and install them 2 in each headlight unit. Or i can just upgrade the low beam to LED which is used more. Would that make any problems with one being LED and other a halogen.
Hey there, thanks for stopping by! Good question. For your low beam projectors, go with an HID kit and not an LED as LEDs do not perform very good in a projector. For your reflective high beam, go with LED as they perform the best there and have no warm-up time. :) You would need to buy two kits: One 55w Single Beam HID kit, and a high beam LED kit. :)
Headlight Revolution Hi, thanks for your reply. Do you recommend any HID kit i could use? i've looked at some but they all seem to be very bright and don't actually look that good when they are installed, you can clearly see that its an aftermarket thing. I on the other hand am looking for my headlights to be not very eye catchy and to look like they are original. I just want to upgrade cause my halogens aren't really the best to light the road at night.
This video says that the 9005 bulb is the low beam, but everywhere I look, it seems to indicate the opposite. Which information is accurate at this point?
2018 Honda Pilot Touring AWD has projector headlight with Halogens. Since they are projectors can I install HIDs or LEDs and do I need a KIT with either?
I would just go with HIDs. I have a 4runner with projector lens and it came with Halogen bulbs. The main problem I had with LEDs was that it does not fit correctly in a projector which is hard to adjust the lighting in that as well. while HIDs were built to be fit in projectors, it’s just better to stick with HIDS.
I have a 2015 2500 with the projectors and it’s still awful after I put in led. Is there something about that model that has issues or do I need to do some more things/better products to help it?
Hey Coleton! You need an HID kit in there, those are projectors! Link: headlightrevolution.com/gtr-lighting-55w-gen-5-pwm-canbus-single-beam-hid-conversion-kit/ (H11, 6,000k Recommended)
I wish I watched this video last week. I just purchased and installed led headlights in my 2017 ford escape titanium with projector low beam and reflector high beam. Might return them and get hid instead.
The only thing that we would have for you here would be the Profile Pixel DRL Boards for that vehicle, this will require you to bake that headlight housing, crack it open, and replace that DRL board. Let us know if you have any other questions, we are here to help! Have a great day!
I put the GTR Ultra 2’s in a 2003 Toyota Tacoma w/reflector headlights. The lights are installed properly (correct orientation), but there is no discernible pattern, other than bad. There are shadows, and square light patterns scattered in the field of view. I’m wondering if the diffuser is doing this, and should I just snip the diffuser right out? Any help is appreciated.
The diffuser-cap shouldn't cause an issue, as those lights are designed to function like the factory lights, just brighter. The alignment may be off, so shoot us an email with some images of the beam on a wall at least 25 feet away, and we will be happy to assist you!
Right on! Give us a little while to get back to you as there are tons of other emails in the inbox, but we should get back to you sometime later today!
I have a 2014 Cadillac with Stock H ID headlights if I want to replace the bulbs with a brighter bulb do I have to replace the ballast also 300 or higher or what size balance
That sharp cutoff makes me wozy, and it seems to look like a big black wall is in front of me. I prefer a fade off beam,. Personally using reflector HID in a 98 gm truck with new reflectors, using white on low and yellow ish on high, and very happy with it.also have an led bar but rarely use it. Thinking of converting fog lights to hid yellow to finish it off And led in Tail and signal
You can totally do that, although that is not street legal. I have linked all the offroad options that we have for that vehicle for you here: headlightrevolution.com/vehicles/jeep/jeep-jt-gladiator/
So I'm having issues with alignment. The adjusters move the bulb but not the projector lens. Therefore wouldn't that mean no matter where I adjust the bulb the beam will remain in the same place?
My 2017 Nissan Sentra SR Came standard with LED Projector headlights my girlfriend’s 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee wk came with HID Projector headlights there is a slight difference but overall visibility is generally the same
Hi buddy, i saw your video and I thought it was very interesting, I'm trying to replace the current bulbs, i have a 2007 VW GTI with projector headlight with DS2 HID bulb, however am tryingto replace these per D2S Led bulbs, which brand would be your recommendation?? To have a to have a good brightness with the projector, I saw some brands on Ebay and Amazon that promise 6000 k per bulb, but I do not trust them with these. I really apreciate your help, thanks in advance.
Rodmar Quintal, thanks for the quesion! If they are saying that that they are 6000 Lumen6000k is a very common color, it does not mean that it is brighter. We've tested over 300 bulbs, and so far LED's don't do well in projectors. If you want something that is truly going to be an upgrade for your projectors, I would recommend a 55 Watt HID kit by GTR. Check out this video so you can see how to make the change, and if you think you would want to do that. ua-cam.com/video/AIK_CWV9Kiw/v-deo.html Please call or email us if you have any questions. sales@headlightrevolution.com
HID IS KING, Vs LEDs ...BUT if you have OEM projectors. I bought a pair of aftermarket Projectors, Headlights for my Malibu. And after putting some HIDs 55w 8k. The whole headlight sealent had melted. And the Plastic was super hot. I took them off and haven't had problem's with my LEDs
I have a 1999 Mercedes e320 with oem halogen housings. What would you recommend to increase the light output? Do you have any Morimoto kits that will work? Please reply. Thanks.
I have a 09 Ram 1500 with single beam reflector headlights. Do you have videos/info on the Morimoto retrofit that you are showing in this video. Morimoto model, HID vs LED in that model, installation process?
Here is what I recommend for your Ram if you are looking at LEDs: headlightrevolution.com/2009-2018-dodge-ram-reflector-single-beam-led-h11-low-beam-bulbs-upgrade-supernova-v-3/
I recently upgraded my normal H7 to HID, but high beam reach max 50-60M, issue is HID bulb little bit longer than halogen so reflection does work, plz tell me what will be do. This upgrade for hyundai Tucson 2019 India model.
Hey there, thanks for commenting! That vehicle uses a 9003/H4 bulb in the headlight, and that will be for the low and high beam! For that vehicle, I can not recommend HID or LED for street legal use, and for the street you would need to go with the halogens linked here: headlightrevolution.com/vision-x-h4-55-60-watt-hi-low-dot-approved-superwhite-bulb-set/ For an offroad application, I would recommend going with the CSP Mini from GTR Lighting, as that is a small form factor bulb that will fit under that dust cover! I own a 2012 GMC Terrain and a 2015 Subaru Outback. Both vehicles have projector beam style lights. My problem is due to my age and cataracts I need more light at night. I have been exploring options. One is replacing the standard halogen beams with the allegedly brighter replacement from Philips or Sylvania. My other idea was to have some type of light bar installed on the front of the vehicles. I asked about Leds, but was told that the projector housing would not allow all the light produced to be allowed out of the housing. Any suggestions?

The BEST option would be to retrofit your current housings with HID projectors and install an HID kit. However, that takes a lot of time and a fair amount of money. Your better option is to install a set of Sylvania Silverstars and call it a day. They're noticeably brighter/whiter and aren't nearly as expensive as an HID retrofit.

So if the projectors reflector has more projected reflection over the projected reflections light then the reflectors projector can also be a good choice to reflect and project on your reflector or projector? Or was it projector is a better choice then reflector because the projector projects high beam reflector detector projector inspector.
Lmao wtf
fak you
😂😂😂 I’m dying
Yooo this is funny 😂😂😂😂
I can’t believe you’ve done this
You tube is a wonderful thing a lot of solutions for everything
I've tried them all, and hid are the brightest but blind incoming traffic, so I only do led now they last way longer and have a better beam pattern if you install them correctly .
Great speaker! - well spoken, on script, knowledgeable and focused.
That’s awesome Angel, You’re going to love them!
Great explanation! I just just purchased a Dodge Durango and it's my first vehicle with projector headlights. I was curious about the design and engineering of them and this video answered all of the questions I had.
Glad it was helpful!
Good explanation, but it will be better if you add some sample where you turn on each kind of lamp so prople can understand the differences.
Great description. I was wondering why when I turned on and off the high beams on my vehicles with projectors that I was hearing a shuttering sound. I thought something was wrong because my previous vehicle used the projector and reflector combo. The high beams used a separate bulb with the reflector.
8:51 what I really wanted to know. Thanks! 🙏
Projector LED's with 8000k lights or higher & you're seeing not just everything at night but you're also seeing into the future their so beautifully bright.
LOL
I love the projector style headlamps. The beam is much more directed. And you can install LEDs in them with no issues. LEDs in a reflector housing just scatters the light and blinds everyone.
Not always true about the reflectors, depends on the housing!
HID is better than LED
@@TakeThis_L not really its all about preference, hid are better than halogen bulbs
@jacob Cool story bro.
I can definitely understand the explanation without visual. Clear explanation
Glad we could help!
i'd like to see a comparison of the beam and intensity of OEM haogen reflector x projector.
#MakeLightingGreatAgain
Love it!
#KeepLightingGreat
My Golf mk4 originally had reflector headlights. Dipped and high beam! They light output is good but I want something more efficient like a projector and see better at night especially running LED bulbs in so it be nice and bright! So I swap the whole headlight to projector!😊 be thing I noticed is after I changed the headlights, that I had to readjust the headlights by myself rather than get somebody to do it!😊 I strongly strongly suggest to anybody that they must adjust their headlights so it’s not aiming too high or too low!
What is the round piece that sets in front of the light bulbs in a reflector headlight assembly?
It’s a diffuser that helps the light hit the reflectors properly.
@@HeadlightRevolution thanks
Very clear explanation! Now I need to find the best projector kit or headlight projector with hid for my 2004 Ram.
Good to hear!
I got a grand caravan 2008 i wish install a projector !
Do u think can be install one of them projectors on it?
Thank u
That is true. But alot of people arnt aware that projectors have been around for decades, my 1990 nissan 300zx has projector low beam
Still not as good and projector headlights are much less dazzling than reflectors.
Is the position (vertical or horizontal) of a LED replacement in a projector critical, or since the “bowl” is round it doesn’t matter? Thanks!
You would still need the diodes facing the proper direction!
@kevin cool. Story. Bro.
I have the 55w GTR HID lighting kit and 9011HIR highbeams and it throws a huge amount of light down the road for my liking.
Thanks so much, I'm happy you like your new lights!
I know someone who had a 2004 Toyota Prius it came factroy with HID so SINGLE filament but would do low and high they had the REflector backing
We installed led bulbs in our gmc envoy 2008 in a reglector do you thing we should install a reflector
There really aren't any good aftermarket headlight assemblies available for your vehicle, A good bulb is going to be your best bet.
I enjoy fitting HID’s into reflector housing and aiming them upwards to blind other drivers and cause an accident. Gets me every time.
That's the worst!
Main problem with most projectors is they are spot lights with almost no side illumination. Most of the newer vehicles with adaptive lighting run fogs to make up for the deficiency, that being said the morimoto projectors have a much better spread than oem projectors but at the cost of some of the hotspot in the middle.

I would just go for a full housing replacement!

It's possible for sure!
So we learn, halogen is old school as it can be, reflectors are clearer/wider visibility, Hid the best way to go because technology has been mastered and Led is the new cool source and its slowly getting there def an upgrade from reflectors but technology isnt there yet to compete with HID. Love it thanks bro
That basically sums it up! happy to hear you liked it!
What is best recommended for my 2018 ram 1500 with reflector lights? Just led swap or is something else much better

I have a 2018 Taurus I upgraded to LED and they suck not bright at all. What can you recommend?
I would recommend HID for this set up!
My 09 projector HIDs suck. I've replaced them per the dealer, but still suck. Is there a better option with LEDs?
This video says that the 9005 bulb is the low beam, but everywhere I look, it seems to indicate the opposite. Which information is accurate at this point?
The projector headlight uses either a 9012 or 9005 low beam and a 9005 high beam, depending on the year.

Rodmar Quintal, thanks for the quesion! If they are saying that that they are 6000 Lumen6000k is a very common color, it does not mean that it is brighter.
