Muslim population in Indonesia (at that time as a Dutch colony, Dutch East Indies). According to history, the massive conversion of Java people occured at the the time of "Walisongo", nine Islamic scholars. While the earlier prominent Muslim scholar coming to Indonesia was Ibrahim As Samarkand, from Samarkand central Asia, around 14th century. He was father of Sunan Ampel, one of "Walisongo". Even there's an inscription that records the coming of Arab Muslims in 7th century to Barus, Sumatra.
A great presentation about a topic that has been greatly neglected in my country, the Netherlands, the former colonial power, which in general tends to ignore its former colony in all of its facets of an Islamic country. Also the gambus music is ignored, in fact in the whole 'world music' sphere. But I have a different question. What about the migration the other way around? In Yemen one tends to see Malayan facial traits here and there.
Could be that returning Hadrami families bring in some of that genetic makeup but that number is so small, it is neglible. My explanation is: Indian Ocean.
The peole of Hadhramut or the hadhrami are business people by nature they have settled in many places in Africa, Asia, in the Gulf, Europe, America.
Al Aqsa is the original spot where many Muslims do not know but they focus on the dome of the rock.
For more than a year (Since 2022-2023), there's a controversy, mainly in NU organization where many Hadramaut scholars join, about the validity of Baalawi clan from Hadramaut, as the descendants of prophet Muhammad.
*The trigger was,* bad behaviours & crimes committed by some "Habib", the special tittle of Tarim, Hadramaut Muslim scholars, descendants of prophet Muhammad. Due to this, Imadduddin Usman Al Bantani wrote a thesis for his master degree. The result is: Baalawi nasab (bloodline) is unconnected to prophet Muhammad.
DNA test of some Baalawi also confirms that there's only 3,4% of Arab blood in their blood.
As an Indonesian, I can say Hadramaut & Tarim cultures are mostly seen in Nahdatul Ulama / NU areas. NU is the biggest Islam organization where many "Habib"
(Hadramaut Islamic scholars) & Baalawi clan in general, join.
I myself and many other Indonesian people who do not join NU, not influenced by their culture.
