I only hear and read about that disease occuring to newborns, but what about adults? For whatever reason, lately my bathroom always smells of Maggi after peeing. ???
I believe my son has the intermittent version of MSUD, I realized early on that certain foods caused problems and eliminated them from his diet. Also that wet diapers or the occassional nocturnal accident left the bed smelling like maple sugar. My problem is the State i am in does not test for this until the child is 5 days old and he was released after 3 days, did not show symptoms til he was 3-4 months old and being in a small town the old doctor just kind of laughed it off. He is now 30, and fairly functional as long as he stays away from certain proteins but he wants to get married and have kids. To do this safely he needs to be tested but to see if he is a carrier or has the Disorder and there is not one who tests adults.
Thanks so much for making this video. I have a medical science background and my partner has MSUD so this was very informative!
Wow, this video was AMAZINGLY comprehensive! Thank you so much!

thank you. What is the classical name of this disease, not the common American one with the maple syrup, i can't remember. Thank you again.
Branched-chain ketoaciduria or branched chain ketoacid dehydrogenase-deficiency
keep going.
The pathophysiology of this disease is very similar to PKU, right?
Thank you

When I was a kid and used to wet the bed I remember the bed smelling like maple syrup. I thought that was just a common thing
