Fixing my broken expandable garden hose again by cutting it short and reattaching to handle end.

  • I owned an expandable garden hose a few years ago. I guess I got lucky and mine lasted about a year and a half.
    Sadly, I purchased a cheap $15 expandable hose at amazon. Literally after 4-5 months, the hose sprung a leak. To compound things, the manufacturer went out of business.
    Sigh.. so I fixed this hose by cutting it in half... and then reattaching it to one end.
    How long did my repair last? Roughly a month.. before it sprung a leak again.
    So in this video,.. you'll see how I cut and reattach the end on my expandable garden hose.

    Very thorough job adding the ribbon and bag tie. Mine has pinholes and i know nothing touched the area.

    My 150 feet hose lasted 8 months. Because was hanging from the hose Bibbs and used to pull
    the hose out while watering plants. I just bought a new one today. Now I am buying a 4 feet plastic hose
    will go first then I will attach the 150 feet flexible hose but this time I will not pull the hose to water plants
    or wash my car. In the winter I put them in the garage. $60 dollars for a 150 FEET flexible hose.

      Hopefully you found a maker who makes a 150ft hose well. These expandable hoses.. you can't tell if they're good or not.
      The one I had was a cheapie... Unlike you.. I only need to cover 10 feet... so I've gone back to a traditional rubber hose I got from walmart.
      I hope your setup lasts longer... originally.. I didn't know how much care these expandable hoses needed (like emptying out the water completely.. and keeping them in shade. Good luck!

      @@aleksdude I bought another one last night, they sell a 10 dollar insurance for 3 years, I did not buy the insurance. I will buy hoses every year until I get bored of dealing with light flexible hoses. But it is what it is.

    I'm trying to find the shutoff valve that goes between the hose and the sprayer head. Cannot find it anywhere.

    How do you screw that fitting back on? Ours will not grasp the threading and it feels impossible.

    • @aleksdude
      @aleksdude Рік тому +1

      It's hard to screw the fitting back in.
      Basically.. when you close off the tube with your own makeshift clamp.. it might be too big!
      So.. when you try to squeeze the tube into the old brass ring... it might not fully go in.
      That's why I ended up using metal ties that were thin enough not to make an obstruction on the metal ring. The metal ties although aren't strong enough to keep a good seal on the rubber tube to the end piece.
      It's all because we don't have access to a decent clamp.. I believe?
      If we could get a comparable clamp.. then the hose would slide into the brass clamp easily.. and then you could screw it in properly.

      I have the same issue. Now all i did was unscrew it and cant break that gap to screw it back in..... Contemplating buying a new hose now. Already wrecked my wrists trying. Probably stick to steel hoses from now on.

    My hose was leaking from the other end. Is it possible to fix it like your video?

    • @angrymathdude
      @angrymathdude  Рік тому +1

      Yes.. I think it's possible.
      The biggest besides taking it apart.. is being able to put it back together so that it clamps down.
      I think it might just be easier to spend $20 on a regular rubber hose. These expandable hose hoses.. are great on paper.. but they always break over time.. much sooner then a old school rubber hose. Good luck.. my wife bought rubber hose from walmart for $15... and that's what we use now.. Threw out the old expandable hose.

    What caused the hose to burst?

    • @aleksdude
      @aleksdude Рік тому +1

      They say water in the hose can cause the rubber to deteriorate. The manufacturer of these hoses suggest removing all water from the hose line after use (inconvenient)
      These can break even under normal use. This is just a rubber hose that expands like a balloon. Rubber isn't made to last... and can succumb to natural causes of deterioration.
      I would not suggest purchasing expandable hoses like these. It's convenient.. but durability and quality are huge issues with these water hoses. Good luck!

    *LOL* If is a fix using christmas ribbon and bread ties, I would simply be amazed. Maybe you have std water pressure < 40psi, which might hold. Mine are all connected to a 60psi, and they don't last but a couple of months. AND $50+ for this junk with multiple hoses with patches, and the damn things *still* break / split. I went back to several 50 ft Goodyear 3/4 in rubber hose that have lasted for 10+ years. So what if they are bulky. DONE with this cheap crap from China.

    • @angrymathdude
      @angrymathdude  Рік тому

      They make it seem that this is some grand new invention. When it comes apart and you see what it's made of...
      Using cheap expandable rubber... of course it will spring a leak in a few months.
      I'm using a traditional hose now too.. no issues after 6 months on a traditional hose.. just inconvenient as it's lying on the floor.
