How great to see this version. I noticed that didn't include the comment from Simon that he was a "good looking boy" on this uncut version. Amazing..even with this track he made it his own.
I used to know this guy, no hint he was going to be a pop star or that he knew any music at all!!!

You are clearly lying that you knew this guy or if you did you didn't know him well, Pete Waterman and Simon Cowell both knew Will Young before this audition and was on the radar for many music labels long before he auditioned for Pop Idol, he had already been signed to be part of a boy band but it didn't go through, but was encouraged by the record label to continue pursuing a single career.

I'm from near Hungerford, and it's a modest, pleasant sort of place. Will Young fits the same description, and that's meant nicely. His success may have given Hungerford some renown outside of the massacre. Good on him. Well done.

Simon wasn't earning from this show. It was Simon Fuller's idea so Cowell started a new show and changed the name to xFactor. I think he took it to the states first. I think there was a law suit between the two Simons about it. Someone else on here will probably know more.

Almost 15 years now Anna! He had a sell out tour last year and is doing outdoor festivals this Summer including Glastonbury.

Maybe it's easier with hindsight but those judges were a bit slow off the mark eh? What's all that nonsense about cheese? Will didn't learn much from them other than how to sell himself. The thing he was selling was pure gold and the same today as it ever was. The most intelligent man in the room.

This isn't uncut Pete Waterman said no to will in the first audition because he wore old jeans
After they'd all made a comment Simon asked them all to decide whether to put him through or not...which is when Pete made the comments about Will's clothes. Simon had the final say and put him through.
