I've bought at least three penns where the drag did not work just out of the box. one was a spinfisher 5000, a cheaper Penn fierce bait runner, and a Penn squall with drag issues out of the box.

Emcast is better. Feels better built and it is much louder than the black widow

Why do you hate penn? I’ve had nothing but great experiences with their reels save for the first gen of low to mid range spinning reels

maybe I just had bad luck? I have some cheaper 3000 reels that are fantastic though.
Is the black widow 4000 the same size as the Eliminator 4000?

Tsunami airwave elite 8ft 6in. It would be better for me to have bought a 10ft rod though just for distance casting.
