Not everyone can pry a free Hawken from Ol' Hatchet Jack's cold dead frozen fingers.

Can I set up a tent or anything inside this gun? Because at that price, those barrels better be big enough for me to use them as my new residence.(plus, now i want to go camping inside of a gun) lol. Awesome rifle and great history on it though.

They've sold guns for a LOT more than that.

@@35rem19 I know, and those prices were equally absurd and ridiculous. But whatever, it's not my money. Me personally, I'd rather have a house, or a brand new Porsche 911 GT3, or like a million other things rather than some old rifle that Teddy Roosevelt owned. I mean, shit, an orange GT500KR(one of only 2 ever produced in that color) just sold at Mecum for the same price as this rifle. In what fucking world is this rifle worth as much as that entire car? It's crazy.

Likely not Kit Carson’s actual rifle…but rather of the style that Kit Carson used. These were tools to Kit Carson and one of his would never have survived in this condition. He also tended to decorate his “Indian Style”. So I think this is just a semantic misunderstanding of what TR wrote in order to boost the bid price. Still a beautiful rifle and worthy of being preserved. 👍

You do realize teddy Roosevelt been dead over a 120 years so how is going to boost a auction price of a company he had never heard of y'all people are good for laughs

@@michaelhayes7471 - TR didn’t say it to boost the bid price, the RIA representative did. I think TR was just describing the rifle.

I doubt that, given the Hawken Shop's likely production capacity, its rifles killed more game than Sharps or Winchester.

You are 100 % correct. The hawken is one of the most overrated guns in history. Leman rifles were far more popular at the time.
