Great video Barry! Spent my childhood in Catterick, the training area was my playground! Ventured into my first pub at the age of 16, The Bishop Blaize in Richmond. As far as pubs on the camp went there weren't many back then. I know most camps had their own mess but there was The White Rose Club although I didn't venture in there, as a civvy I would have ended up as mincemeat! There was the Legion, Colburn Lodge and the Scorpion, rough as old boots, in my day it was known as the Walkerville. The area where your bar was Shute road, most of the buildings are to be demolished due to some Camp regeneration scheme that's probably why the bar was closed. If you do a search for Dronescape he does a lot of drone footage when parts of the Camp are being demolished I think he has covered Shute Rd.
@@ChattingWithMeHGV Just checked there are a few so put in Dronescape St Giles and you will find him. Jee's you been busy got to watch all your other vids now!
Great video Barry, thanks for sharing. I went on a hiking holiday in 1997 and stayed in the hotel/pub/restaurant in Richmond. I remember wanting to go for a wander around the town at night before bed and the concierge told me to stay in because the lads from Catterick Garrison were in town and it wasnt safe for a woman to be out on her own with the squaddies in town. I knew that Catterick is where the Gurkhas are trained - I used to watch Forces News on the TV. Enjoy the rest of your day and your week off.
Enjoyed the video Barry. All the best!!
If only the whole country could be traditional as that is. Great video, I enjoyed that.
Used to enjoy watching your 'average joe in cumbria' videos especially the fell walks. Keep them coming.
