Have you noticed you can't get legato when playing half tones? The notes just glide.
Yeah! they just added this feature about a couple weeks ago I believe
@@jpdussan I see they changed the way glide behaves when adjusted. The curve adjusts on the X axis now instead of the Y. That must be what gives it legato capabilities. And it works on my original Seaboard, not just the new one. Have you tried the Seaboard Rise 2? I'm curious if it is worth the upgrade.
I just bought Equator 2 with the Orchestral Ensembles package and am really impressed. They are on sale right now and well worth the upgrade.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. Unfortunately I have not had much success in finding a good video that covers the same topic as what you have presented here. You could use a trial version of Ableton to make a video.

2018: the slide is not realistic at all. maybe someday it will and all real players will quit.
+Jingle Dot Com It’s hard to get that to sound very realistic because when you slide you’re actually taking a sample and stretching its pitch rather than passing your finger through every pitch of a string, producing additional harmonics that are part of the sound.
That’s why I sometimes prefer to use the plugin’s “glide” sample that is triggered when playing at a low velocity. Sounds much more realistic.
jpdussan I agree the glide is good enough for it being a sample. Do you need to change the pitch setting to get the vibrato? I have the blakus but my settings section looks nothing like your example! I’m a little confused. I can’t seem to find those menu options

Lorenzo Franchini hey Lorenzo, thank you for your comment and the suggestions. I actually tried to map the CC74 to the dynamics. I didn’t like it because the velocity would always start at the minimum, meaning that if I wanted to play a forte phrase it wouldn’t work. If you have an alternative solution for this, let me know!
Ha! That's indeed a good point. The seaboard recognizes the position where you touch (in the vertical slide area), so I'd imagine (but I could be wrong) it should be possible to map the dynamics to that. That's exactly the pain with ROLI. It's very complicated to use the Seaboard with libraries other than Equator :(
Fantastic! Thanks for granting my wish! Was kicking myself when I realised the problem with the pitchbend settings. I actually managed to create an MPE-compatible version of the Embertone Cello, allowing polyphonic expression. That includes velocity, expression and sordino controls mapped to respective dimensions. Can't wait to add this to the mix. Perhaps one could create realistic divisi using the MPE tech. Will try to share the results. I imagine Embertone and Roli will be pretty interested in this use case.

Literally, 16 channels routed to 16 instances of the same MPE-tuned cello, and MPE mode on the Seaboard RISE/BLOCKS dashboard. CC 74 seems to be expression, so I routed that to the dynamics CCs in Embertone Cello. Got the pitch bend going now, sounds good... BTW there is a Python script to set up MPE routing in Live... Must tie it all together somehow. Will try to keep updated!
Not sure how easy it is to do divisi, though - haven't figured out how MPE allocates MIDI channels, but maybe there is a MIDI plugin that could handle this.
Let me know when you find one , thats a lot of work assigning those parameters to all those midi channels
Does kontakt come with all those sounds? Also do you know if you can play multiple notes like that?
I know these Embertone VSTs work in both the KONTAKT Player and the full KONTAKT version. I am wondering if you know if the MPE only works when you use it in the full KONTAKT version? I have tried the Joshus Bell Essentials plugin using the KONTAKT Player in 3 different DAWs - FLStudio, Cubase Elements 9.5 and Logic ProX - and have yet to get the MPE working using a controller that the designers says is MPE compliant - Artiphon Instrument 1. I am going to get the Blakus Cello next and see if that works like you are showing in the Player. The setup menus in the Player may not be as extensive as in the full KONTAKT to adjust the pitch bend settings. I will have to try and see but if you know anything about using MPE in the Player version can you tell us?
I know this is years old, but it might help someone else. Did you set the MIDI input to Omni?
Great video. I am also a pianist, but I am using Cubase 9.5 instead of Logic. One question, why did you map the volume dynamics of the notes to the xy pad using the Y axis CC as opposed to Velocity using touch of each individual finger...is this a function of how the Kontakt instrument is sampled or set up. I was just wondering because I map my cello sounds in Hallion to Touch in Cubase because I like to play other parts live with my other hand as opposed to modulating volume. My curiousity is peaked now since I do not use Kontakt. Thanks for the video.
+Lennard Villasenor Lennard, thanks for your comment. I just feel that I get more control by controlling the dynamics that way, Specially if I’m soloing with the instrument. Of course it is also possible to map the dynamics to the velocity or after touch on the Seaboard.
Great video! I just bought my ROLI Seaboard 25, but don't have that Cello plugin yet. Please post more how-to config mappings like this. I'm still getting used to this MPE MIDI standard. Very helpful to get oriented with the ROLI.

+Ramon Key I’m still working on solving that. I could do that but if I map the dynamics to the CC74 (aftertouch) the sound would always start at the minimum no matter how far my slide starts. Let me know if you find a better way of setting this up!
can I use these settings with Kontakt inside of Ableton
Thank you for the video. I did, like you said in the video, but i have one question. I quess, that the there is too much reaction of roli seaboard to the strength of pressing. In case of too hard pressing, i get not beautiful sound, like hard strike to a bow (fiddlestick). It is too sensitive, and i want to reduce that. How can i do so? P.S. sorry for my english.

Nathan, i have the maxium of the Strike in my ROLI dashboard - it is the straight line. But it is not enough.

Thanks for tips on settings. But SWAM Cello sounds way more realistic and it already has a default Seaboard preset.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to change the pitch bend parameters with the free kontakt. There seems to be much more limited setting options.
