When filling that water heater, manually open that Pop-Off valve to let air out of the tank then close the lever handle.
Those water heaters are designed to have that air bubble at the top. There is no need to let the air out.
Once your thermostat problem is solved put a short hose on the end of the blow off valve so the water doesn't drip on your electronics if it does leak again.
@@TheNiteinjail just drill a hole in the drop down door the size of the hose and run it through. don't forget to cinch it with a hose clamp at the blow off valve connection
An old rver once told me.. Never pull that release valve unless you're changing it because it'll never stop leaking...
Wash old hat in sink, Liquid Dawn laundry detergent and Shout. Scrub with toothbrush. STUFF IT & SHAPE IT over a terrycloth towel and let it dry, towel in place. No shrinkage, no wrinkles.
My Sister bought a new Harley Motorcycle yesterday. She had a few things she wanted to fix on her old one, and she decided to trade that one in! 🤷♀️
Rather than guessing how to fix a problem, you might want to take a more technical approach to fixing your problems. Did you reach out to a vendor support site to troubleshoot the issue or symptom, rather than hoping the problem would go away? I'm pretty sure the manufacturer of your RV Big Foot or online support groups would be able to provide a more concise solution to resolving your issue.
I added a 2 gallon water heater expansion tank and pressure gage on my RV water heater inlet line. The tank also keeps the pump from short cycling.
There is no check valve on the inlet of the hater heater, so if pressure builds up in the water heater tank it will push into the RV hot water lines as well as back up into the cold water line and the expansion tank.
At least adding a gage you can see if the lines are too over pressurized if the relief valve keeps venting the tank.
Inother thing thak could be happening is the water heater may be losing its air pocket in the top of the tank
Eric, you need to hand wash your ball caps in a sink or bucket with dish washing liquid and a small brush. Air dry afterwards.
It’s spelled “sacks”, not “caps”.
Seems way too long to heat the water. Ours is 6 gallons and takes about 12 mins on gas to heat 17-20 mins on elec to heat
Water heater is a known problem…. And usually an easy fix…. Take the wire leads to the thermostats… unplug one at a time, lightly spray some “Deoxit D5” on the stud, then plug the wire on, pull it off, plug it on, pull it off, approx 10 times.
Repeat for each stud.
The contacts go cold over time and weathering….
I hope this helps….
Okay, first off I’ve slept in my vehicle at least half-a-dozen times in New Mexico. If you look around at the rest areas at night you see dozens of cars with folks sleeping in them. Secondly, when showing your water heater I can see an electrical wire nut, upside down, right below your water heater valve. That’s probably an electrical fire danger. Maybe the problem with your fixes is the fact that you’re the one fixing them. You’re the king of misinformation!
since you're going to bypass the water heater if the repair doesn't work you can heat up your water on the stove and fill your bag with hot water so no waiting on the sun to do it.
Eric, there is a process listed in you water heater's owners manual on how to REPLACE THE AIR GAP in your water heater. If you haven't done that, I think you should try it before doing anything else. Once you lose the air gap inside the top of your water heater, you have to re-establish it or there is a good chance water will leak out of the pressure relief valve. This air gap allows for expansion inside the tank when the burner is activated.
Dinosaur Electronics makes replacement control boards for many water heaters and RV fridges. Very reliable controls and often better quality than what the manufacturer put in originally.
I like the fact that your water heater is below the floor line. Makes a big difference if it leaks. Won’t get into the rig.
Get yourself a thermometer and test the hot water coming out of a sink faucet. Shouldn’t be over 130 ish. That would be a thermostat replacement.
Eric, please stop loading the parts cannon before you know! Does 'electric' overheat as well or is you problem minited to gas fired?
You are parts changing not diagnosing.
Meow meow Tara and Opie. Be safe have fun Eric.
Eric, after watching your video I went to our recently acquired Lazy Daze. Sure enough after 40 minutes its not turning off. Ugh! Water was starting to come out of the emergency valve. I found a video on you tube from Bootenwagen. It’s called Dometic/Atwood RV water heater thermostat replacement (too hot or cold & fault light. Amazon sells a kit for less than $20. I’m gonna order it and give it a try.
My RV water heater is on demand tankless. Not too expensive on Amazon and installed myself.
What is your favorite place you have traveled to as a Nomadic Fanatic 😊
That's tough. I love so many areas of this country. I certainly like camping up in the dense tree areas of the PNW
Super cool thanks for the response 😊
Probably prison right Eric?
Why do people have a problem with being kind !
It sounds like lynnbendery has a lot of experience in that area 😳
Hope you can get it fixed seems like thermostat issue as those pressure reliefs don't fail too often.
PS- I wash my hats all the time, can prewash with dawn and scrub brush on dirtiest parts then throw in wash or handwash whole thing. Come out like new 👍
Hi Eric. Thanks for the video. Not sure if you know this. But, Barnett HD always touts the fact that they will not be undersold on their bikes. Both new and used. I have a cousin here in upstate NY that purchased a new 2008 Anniversary streetglide from them. We flew down and rode back on not one,But two brand new '08 streetglides mine was the copper and black and he decided to get an all black model. I wish I could post a picture here in this reply. BTW, on your water heater issue, You have a BAD high limit t-stat the replacement part numbers are as follows for an Atwood 91447 or a Dometic 91470 Both are available at Amazon. Maybe your local CW may have it. But that is DEFINITELY your issue. It is not shutting off after it reaches the set point. (usually 120F)
My cats would lay up there too! Stop worrying! But! Easy for me to say! Mine Always concerned me👍. My “on demand “ hot water heater tank always gave me problems! Eric! Keep making videos!! I Love it you bring my memories back to the “good ol’Days”!👍
To clean your hat try using a Mr.Clean eraser. Rub the whole hat with it, wet it good and leave it sit to dry. It takes all of the stains out and looks new. I do this with my golf hats.
The dishwasher might work but it discolors the hat.
It’s so nice you had Easter with your mom ❤
I think I have a 6 gallon water heater in my camper. I usually wait about 20 minutes then shut the water heater off to save propane. I don't leave it on once the water is hot.
I would replace the thermostats too, just in case.
You could switch out that heater with a on demand one
A hose in the sun works, can get extremely hot though. I found a utube that shows how to wash caps, works good.
Eric, If you can I believe you should always try the Mom & Pop hardware stores, we all need to keep them in business!
Secondly, You explained about the bucket saving you in a pinch.
Was that a hidden joke??
Stay well. Stay healthy. Peace.
Glad you caught that! :)
I live the old hardware stores. 👍
The thermostats are super easy to replace. I had to do them on my old 5th wheel. And there not that expensive.
Amazon currently has them 2 for $9.99
There are numerous free City RV Parks in that stretch of TX. Helpful during this season to hunker down during storms.
Thanks for taking us along on your adventures
We have a hot water on demand water heater love it
What a Harley store! Good video. Beware of signs is always a good rule to follow. Cute kitties near the close of the video.
Free campsites is much appreciated but it seems like 40% of the spots are closed yet still listed. Bummer
Hi Eric and Kitties from Angel and I here in nc enjoying the videos as always my friend!!! We send yall lots love and hugs!!!! Keep on enjoying you!!!
April 8!!! Eclipes is a must see this year
HEY ERICK YOU MAY HAVE A HEATER CONTROL ISSUE, THOSE RV WATER HEATERS USUALLY ONLY RUN FOR 20 TO 30 MINUTES AT THE MOST.
Plastic gallon jug does the same thing. You might need to leave it in the sun a little longer. That's what we used after surfing.
Go check out RV with Tito on how to properly troubleshoot your propane water heater. Should help eliminate the guesswork. Will have to get one of those solar water heaters for my emergency plan!
Buy a New Water heater and a different Generator. April 1 we went into Mercury Retrograde. It is Time to replace and repair things.
Texas rest areas are the best!
Love seeing the kitties. Miss Jax❤
Bravo.........I go the flow.......if there is no others people......u have Texas plates ........bullet proof......cheers
Did you let the air out of the tank? We had to do that.
Amazon has the solar showers also.
I think I’m checking Walmart. I need this for outside washing dishes.
I just went through there a few days ago,
Great video, love the new t-shirts and the hat. Thanks for sharing. Love yah Nancy
Great idea with the camera aid at the door
Good luck with your water heater
Peace
Love the videos. I’m always learning something new 😊 by the time I’m done watching your videos I’ll be in RV mechanic pro😊
Hey ....the valve has a pipe mount......add a pipe so it don't flow on bay area......cheers
We have put those signs up in our town as well to be able to control homeless camping just ask city hall and they will leave you alone!
maybe its not the pressure valve, maybe its the water heater not turning the burners off when its hot. like a temperature sensor fail?
Glad to see the GoPro back
Woooo
Fun video Eric, thank you for all the great RV information that you provide to all of us, things will always pop up and the more we learn the better!!!
Same thing happening to Freedah's water heater.
Amazon has a variety of of those portable showers, I always go to Amazon when your done looking. 👍🏻🇺🇸
scenario: first longer Thermostat Length: might be for large house Unit. Water Heater 35 plus Gal the spec are the same 150psi / temp rel 210° deg F it the thermal switch water heater ?
Like to see you working with the tractor. Great stuff.
Pull the lever, and let it slap shut a couple times to help seat it.
That Harley Davidson Store 🏬 looks very very very Cool 😎 Eric.
Loving the long vids. Glad you back on the road
Still have them on Amazon
Hope you got your water heater problem solved. Hope you got a good night's sleep too. Until next video, happy travels.
Good show. Thanks.
What happened to the portable water heater you had ran on 1lb tank propane and a submersible pump
Good times!
Amazon also has portable showers too!
CLARIFICATION:
That post from the guy who parked there...WAS FROM JANUARY OF 2023 ERIC!! OVER A YEAR AGO; NOT THIS PAST JANUARY OF 2024!! A LOT CAN CHANGE IN ONE YEAR TIME. 👍🏻
Had that happen, screw driver on the center pin, couple easy taps.
Eric I am glad to see you back on the road. I loved your last 3 videos.
So I am almost done with the video and I don’t know a ton about my RV or your RV but it seems like that water heater does not need to be on that long. Unless you are heating a massive water tank. Even in my house, the water heater doesn’t stay on for very long. if that’s a mystery to you, then it’s probably not right. I would feel very uncomfortable wasting all of that propane and heating for no reason as well.
Even iOverlander doesn’t show that as an overnight spot.
Eric, i have been a subscriber since you left Washington State 10 years ago. Any chance you would ever do a meet up when you come through Texas? i live in Texas and would love to meet you and share some barley pops!! i save your videos and watch them every Saturday morning. Safe travels.
👍
Treat hats with Spray n wash, throw in laundry.
Have a safe trip❤❤❤
......... ERIC !!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!! Come to Michigan ................. !!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! I like the one where you were able to reclaim your own urine as drinking water ...................... Too good !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also - that you ate a bunch of a green moldy sandwich !!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SWEEEETTTTT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
time to go with a tankless water heater
No. Already made that mistake and shared it on UA-cam. HUGE waste of water while it slowly heats the passing water. For boondocking, it's NOT good for saving water. But you go right ahead. I've covered this in great detail in past.
Amazon still has 5 gallon solar Portable solar showers
Never timed it but usually my 6 gal takes 15 -20 minutes.
Good call on the water heater
I had to watch again . I forgot to hit the like button again
Eric if you traveling I-10 through Louisiana check out fountain blue state park. It’s on lake pontchatrain. Take the bike into abita springs and eat at abita brew pub.
Tara an Opie are so cute ❤❤see yah Eric an Tara an Opie hugs always
Was at HD dealers in Honolulu and in Singapore. Both had ONE bike. El Paso is definitely desert as is the whole west half of the state.
change your thermostat it's not shutting it down like it should.
Hadn’t seen the babies yet!! Love your videos! Doris and Doug Chattanooga Tennessee
So sad that things are not built to last.😢
i would not park there it is to close to the road
Been missing some camping! Go for it. Find a good place to eat too!
Anyone who is experiencing with RVs knows that you have to burp the hot water tank to allow expansion. You surprised me with your lack of knowledge. Lol
Those hats can be washed in the dishwasher & not lose it's shape. I know you use to have a dishwasher...not sure if you still have it.
I'm glad you got to visit your mom. I know she loved it. ❤
Some time when you’re in the El Paso area go to Marfa and check out the Marfa Lights.
I have a tankless water heater
