What an excellent video. Couldn't agree more about the buffet car, much better than waiting in your seat for the trolley to get to you. A really informative bit of reporting, looking forwards to trying an Azuma myself.
Major timetable changes must be a headache for the timetablers, as GTR found out, I wonder do they still use a time/ distance graph to do it manually or have computers taken over? Which might explain last years cock ups, at least with a graph a glance will tell one there is two trains on the same track section at the same time, rather than wait for trains backing up on reds. At least a human can allow variable variables, a computer only follows a programme.
Serious engineering hardware ! That's why I enjoy rail travel . These Hitachi units are epic! And let's face it on any long distance run in the UK these days its like air travel for service but feels much faster. Great stuff.
This is a lot of excitement for a class 800 - I can see two or three of them down at Temple Meads any time. Are the seats more comfortable than on the GWR ones?
These guys are so great. Love their videos. The train is so colourful and a joy to see. Unlike GWR they have kept the buffet service and there hasn't been any teething problems on the first day of service unlike the GWR 800 that leaked in one carriage because the aircon system broke.
Have you seen the new "Liberty" class being built by Bombardier? Also I've been on the Class 800 (the GWR variant) and I actually don't really like them. I prefer the older HST's because (imo) they are more comfortable as passengers are separate from the power, hence making a quieter and less vibrating ride when they power up the diesel.
Re-watching this video and I realised I've adopted the Fist of Quality when I bought my new car. It really works - it gives a great impression of how good the materials and build quality are (or aren't)
Gorgeous train. Geoff, they have that fancy machine because pouring hot water from a kettle would be dangerous. You can buy fancy dispenser machines for the home, they cost £500. But they are really for making the fancy coffees. Dispensing hot water for tea is one of their minor tasks. I'm not holding my breath that will ever see something that nice in America. The oil, car and airline industries have control of Congress. In fact the current head of Amtrak actually is an Airline lobbyist.
The interior reminded me of the Narita Express in Tokyo when I was there in 2014. When I looked up both trains they look totally different... Fast trains in Australia are totally non existent. A fast train is a modern train on a track that was built for steam locomotives. That's why I loved the Shinkansen in Japan, together with the Narita Express of course.
Geoff, my sentiments exactly about the buffet. I have been known to let the trolley pass (on a trolley only service) and then walk down the train to the trolley to get my cup of tea. Poor substitute for a buffet but going to fetch the tea is all part of the travel experience. Love it. Waiting to see how new G Anglia trains turn out!

Serious engineering hardware ! That's why I enjoy rail travel . These Hitachi units are epic! And let's face it on any long distance run in the UK these days its like air travel for service but feels much faster. Great stuff.
And on top of that, you get the gorgeous views of the British countryside.
@@josephharrison8354 Exactly! Beats driving! Cheers.
This is a lot of excitement for a class 800 - I can see two or three of them down at Temple Meads any time. Are the seats more comfortable than on the GWR ones?
Yes.
i love that Vicki was dunkin her biscuit as she passed through my ol' home town Stevenage!
Never clicked on a notification so fast before!
What is about these videos?!? I simply don’t understand how I’d explain to anyone how compelling they are. Great job, great videos. Thank you.
Geoff is becoming a proper presenter, they're making him do fake work now...
You two are brilliant! Love to you both.
Great finally we get to see the capabilities of these new trains
watch a '43!!
Yes I know dude
All that garish primary red. The spirit of Virgin Trains lives on.
The Azuma looks great!
And you make a good job in the Buffetcar😅
These guys are so great.
Love their videos.
The train is so colourful and a joy to see.
Unlike GWR they have kept the buffet service and there hasn't been any teething problems on the first day of service unlike the GWR 800 that leaked in one carriage because the aircon system broke.
Looks much better than the Acela here in the US. I wish we had trains that cool
Zach Ashton The new Acela trains are 100% Alstom
Sure it's shiny and new but even the first class seats on this train look less comfortable than amtrak coach seats.
Re-watching this video and I realised I've adopted the Fist of Quality when I bought my new car. It really works - it gives a great impression of how good the materials and build quality are (or aren't)
did you know the Z in Azuma is the N in LNER turned on it's side
Now you've said that it makes sense with their signature n logo
you sure it's not just Virgin's N?
@@PrograError cheeky
Yes, I did!
Just sat down on my first Azuma and am loving that I can rest my elbow on the window sill
Yes Geoff , tips on making tea , teabag in cup , poor hot water into cup , lovely !
I know the guy on the right at 4:55! He's called Shaun and works at York :D
Delightful to see you both again!
Another great video, I wish we had the same type of service in the States. If I were Sec. of Transportation, we would ! ! !
Glad to see the buffet has been continued on the new trains.
I need the red Z finger when writing Z in tge air
The interior reminded me of the Narita Express in Tokyo when I was there in 2014. When I looked up both trains they look totally different...
Fast trains in Australia are totally non existent. A fast train is a modern train on a track that was built for steam locomotives. That's why I loved the Shinkansen in Japan, together with the Narita Express of course.
What was in your tote bag Geoff?!
(I actually know, I have one too)
Geoff, my sentiments exactly about the buffet. I have been known to let the trolley pass (on a trolley only service) and then walk down the train to the trolley to get my cup of tea. Poor substitute for a buffet but going to fetch the tea is all part of the travel experience. Love it. Waiting to see how new G Anglia trains turn out!
