Sibo .M. I can answer your question. It's true DCT cars make fart noises. I've first noticed on a MKV GTI. The reason is because fuel got cut off while changing gear to save a little bit of fuel. What you're hearing during the gear change is infact a real engine fart. Just compressed air coming out of exhaust. Not sure if it stinks.
I have a simular issue with my MK VI golf, if I remove my foot from the throttle while it's changing from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th, it just makes some clammering noises and a disruption in ride smoothness.
The noise is due to the ECU retarding ignition timing to reduce engine torque during the shift, so the sound you hear is just a programmed misfire. This probably allows for a faster shift with less wear on the shifting components. Some manufacturers, (like Honda/Acura) instead program the ECU to close the throttle between shifts just like the driver of a manual transmission vehicle would to achieve the same effect of reduced torque during shifts. The 3rd gen Acura TL Type S is famous for this
I have a 2018 Ford Edge and after the dealer prep / washing it for delivery I noticed that the front and rear lights had moisture inside the bezels and told the dealer about this problem . While I have been viewing 30 plus videos on the web on this Ford Edge I noticed several other moisture problems in the head and tail lights . I Think Ford need to look into this or explain what is going on with this model. Enjoy your videos,Tom
Many newer transmissions that shift quickly (like most dual clutches, whether named DSG, PDK, DCT, etc. as well as some ZF 8 speed automatics) do this "fart" noise when the car pulls and dumps fuel very quickly during shift, resulting in a mixture of air and gas coming out at high pressure in the exhaust.
car is fantastic I drove her yesterday blew away all the other mid size competitors....its fast ad handles fantasticaly nicely loaded at 44 k really does compete with my bmw x3
So much praise for the variable steering ratio! May be he never noticed it while reviewing any BMWs before, including the 2013 750Li? BMW Active steering technology has been there since 2003. Fitting it within the steering boss is, of course, news.
This episode made me feel good about living in Germany though. I regularly drive as fast as the car will go. Most modern cars have a limiter though, the car could go faster but they keep it down so tax and insurance are lower on the lower spec cars and so they can sell you the bigger engine with a tiny bit more top speed. There's a big downside to unlimited speed though, mpg goes down quick above 100 mph.
My wife is going to be getting one of these. I feel pressed to wait for the ST, but I am doubting that the gross gains after tuning will be much different than an 18 AWD sport if that's the route I end up taking this. Any thoughts?
Brain, I'm pretty sure what the guy meant about the DTC "farting" is like those high performance cars like most of mercedes' AMG cars that when they shift they make that pop/really fast burble when they shift
Here we call the parking brake "handbrake", but the proper term is "emergency brake", since it's a separate system to help stop the car in case of failure of the main one (fluid leak etc). That might be why some manufacturers stick with them
+sssssneaker I call it a parking brake because I use it when I park every day. And sometimes when I wanna drift in the snow. I've never once used it in an emergency and they're really not designed for that.
I was going to get a new Ford Edge but then I wondered my way into a Cadillac dealership and found that a new xt5 luxury trim was just about the same price. So I got the Cadillac instead of the ford
I figure cars' top speeds are a byproduct of their efficiency and gearing. You want a car that cruises in sixth gear at an efficient engine speed while sipping gas, so you'll have a tall sixth (or whatever) gear. You'll also want it accelerate effortlessly, so you'll have a decent amount of torque and a power band that necessarily goes beyond the efficient sweet spot. If you run your engine at high speeds in top gear, well, you're going to go fast. If you want the car to obey the speed limit, then you either need to neuter its power and maneuverability at lower speeds, limit its top gear and efficiency on the highway, or put in an electronic limiter to artificially prevent speeding.
Brian Cooley is the kind of guy that when you go on a date you just want to sit and listen to him talk. What do you say Brian, take me to a steakhouse?
manual transmission, ford. gimme mah stick! The adaptive steering is nice for putting around, but it feels disconnected to me (to be fair, I'm coming from a caliber SRT and bought the 2015 because it felt like a slightly larger version...and the caliber SRT was discontinued...*cough*, but I miss the driving feel)
What's up with cars nowadays having grilles where only some parts are perforated and other parts are not? At least some manufacturers make an effort to hide it under most viewing angles. I get it, you don't wanna put holes everywhere because of drag. But does it have to be a rectangular cutout in an otherwise fitting shape? I mean look at 1:11, 1:46, and all the closeups... Just perforate it all the way and put a dark sheet of plastic or metal behind it.
Better steering technology then those $15-$20 million F1 racers in the Ford Edge and it only $50K! I would not be surprise to see the Ford Edge Sport in Formula One racing soon! Cheap F1 racer with the steering technology!
+Focus On the Focus I have owned a fair number of Crossover/SUVs and I can say that in person the interior of the Ford edge was one of the best. The only ones that were better were the German ones (MB and BMW).
MasterMech77 I don't like the way the A pillars meets the dash, but I guess most SUVs do that alike to each other. Most certainly would say that the Ford Edge/Lincoln MKX drives nice, feels like driving a pickup nearly. You feel big in it.
***** Yeah you are right it is a bit funky the way the A pillar meets the dash, but for an SUV/Crossover it does offer some of the best forward visibility. That and the over all looks of the outside of the vehicle are nice. It is also one of the most aerodynamic of them in its class. SO guess you have to take the funky for the function. But overall build on the Edge is far above its price range. I was never in to them until the 2011 models hit the market, now I am getting the 2016 with the 2.7l twin turbo v6 sport model. Overall it offers the best of everything for the money. I currently own a fully loaded 2015 Hyundai Tuscan sport, and will be trading that in on the Edge. I miss the 2011 Ford Edge Sport I use to own, so it is time to go back to the one I like better :)
Yea Fords steering assistance stuff was junk for a long time, expensive to replace though they knew it was junk & they did nothing.. so much like that example, I'm sure they got this " ratio " is wrong so don't buy it for a few generations... I have first gen f150 with 2.7 and I like it, the 3.5 is better by far so no idea why they pulled it? If you like this idea, get the earlier Sport with 3.5, it's amazing and better...
When I saw that the Ford Edge was actually beating out the up-scale Nissan Murano, in the eyes of many a tester, I had to give CUDOS to Ford.... Now, about that ugly tin can, non performer called the Escape... Ford, can you hear me??
+Adam Wright I completely agree with you, the gap between the Escape and the Edge is too wide. Not in price but in performance. Since there really is only a $10k difference in price, yet the difference in performance is far beyond what $10k could get you.
What????? I bought one a couple months ago, and never owned of driven a bigger piece of garbage in my life? Corners like a kiddy little red wagon and feels like it's going to flip. Only one antilock brake works, front drivers. Not sure what with ford, my 2005 ford five hundred the same. Intentionally put a garbage car radio so you buy sirus garbage. Picks up beardly any AM stations, the 500 picks up same stations from Canada crystal clear. Electronics and stupid computer are pointless, they have absolutely no function, meaningless. Try to Idle in park to talk on phone, apparently Ford shuts off without your permission? Thats none of fords business and a pointless feature. Get out of car to pump gas or talk to someone, and ford feels good Idea to beep horn in your face to knock you off your feet. That has a purpose? So just end up throwing' keys in car when walk away to keep from getting beep at, so that feature actually causes more harm than good. At Driven Theater, and ford think it needs day time running lights they don't allow to shut off? So everyone at theater beeps at you? Why do they think they should put all this stuff your not allowed to adjust? They're smart??? Or spend time gluing 100% Chinese parts with Elmer's Glue together. "American car???" There isn't an American part on that car. Google, Toyota and Hondas actually have or are more American made. Ford doesn't even pay American taxes! The hide all their accepts off shore! And pay no taxes. I think 2019 they paid -1.9 % federal taxes? Road noise, doesn't corner, ride of a little red Childs wagon, feel every bump. I do all my own car work since 1970's, I am changing the radiator coolant now. In every car since the Flintstones, the drain is right there in front. This 2016 Edge, you have to literally take the whole front end apart, loosen radiator supports, drop support and radiator, just to drain coolant? Basically, a bunch of meaningless toys that were developed by a 12 year old's scribblings on a notebook in school. Edge? needed to be named "The Pinto two."
Epic fail on his part. All the talk about the transmission and I bet he never once put in S (sport mode) he would of mentioned it if he did. guaranteed.
+Bruno TaTa That is not bad at all, considering all the options and performance you get from the Edge. A MB, BMW, or Audi with equal options and performance cost $60k
Yes, it is a lot of content. Unfortunately, it is also a Ford and will be treated as such when it's 5 years old and I'm trying to sell it. Carvana has a ONE YEAR OLD one with fairly low miles for sale for $32,000. Also, the longer bumper to bumper coverage and, free maintenance, combined with the better resale, would make a BMW X3 that costs over $50K cost a little less to own in the real world, for example. I have cash, so financing the extra up front is not a big factor for me like it might be for some. I also am the type who prefers a lower content but more refined and sophisticated driving experience to a loaded vehicle. You really can't get an Edge with a great engine and handling unless it's fairly loaded up.
Bruno TaTa To be dead honest, the higher end vehicles do hold their value better. However I have owned a BMW X3 and a X5M. That and a MB G-class SUV... however with all the reliability issues I had with them I decided to buy the new (at the time) 2011 Ford Edge. I have had no issues what so ever with the Ford Edge. After the warranty runs out, that is when the Ford showed its true colors. The BMW and MB products are great up until you run out of warranty. The main issue at the time I was putting about 60k miles a year on my vehicles for work. SO the meant I would get about a year out of most warranty repairs. Spending 1k on an instrument cluster because the fuel gauge went out for example. Just got old really quick. OH and I am currently sitting over 200k on the Edge for miles, with nothing but normally maintenance done to it. My vehicles are serviced by the dealerships (I don't have time to do them myself) With the service cost being half as much on a Ford as they are on the higher end stuff (the BMW M class is three times more expensive, but that is ok it is an M car after all). The Ford is a better over all value for the money even if it does not hold its value for resale.
MasterMech77 So wait so you said the ford showed it's colors after it's warranty expired, yet later said it has 200k miles and is running well,so which is it?
Ha! I got an X5 SAV CPO and am already tired of the heavy steering and the power steering fluid decided to drain itself at 40K miles. You may have a point here.

Didn't the movie i,Robot with Will Smith feature an Audi concept car (the RSQ) with spherical wheels back in 2004?
Yes.

I'm sorry officer, but you're going to need a warrant to access my car safe 😏
Exactly 😄
I really want to see that 360 tyre in more cars in the future.
The DSG transmission really does do a "fart noise". When you shift, it the engine blip sounds like a slight fart.
+Jared Rosenholtz i know what u talking about. in South Africa we call it a "burp"
Love you brian!

Will that steering system be in the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport?
are you going to review the new 1.5t honda civic ?
a plactic gear in that steering, i hope it doesnt shear off like some of the drive by wire throttles
spherical tyres are bulky huh
Thank god I found you. Post something on cnet about the move to this channel. Was to subtle
I wish they can review on the 2017 subaru impreza
+Yan Luo they will in 6 months when it is for sale
That's actually great for America, you can actually leave your gun in your car. I don't see what the rest of the world would do with it.
Sibo I know some audis inject a drop of gas into the exhaust to make that "fart" sound apparently it's to make the exhaust note more exiting
Hey Cooley, if I ram a ram, should I call it rammed? Cuz its already rammed...

When did he ever leave?
nice SUV
i wonder how many people leave before the intro ends... 39s? thats's like 25s too long
Wrong! The FWD 4-cyl gets 20/30, the AWD gets 20/28. He mixed them up.
oh man... with those 360 tires how am I supposed to ghetto my car out with shiny dubs?
cover the wheel hubs with your bling

Ford for 2017 has gotten rid of that electric spice colour....I wonder why?
I'm a Ford guy, but the interior still looks cheap in the Edge. I'm disappointed, for a $29k to $41k price tag.

Because it takes time for the video to process. Check back in a few hours (if that), and it should be HD.

Foot mounted and electric parking brakes are aweful. Hand brakes are the best and you can drift them
