Hi Miro, I started off with 4 Hoyas in 2022 and I didn’t know much about them. Now I have about 150 Hoyas most of which have been two leaves and no roots. I have always grown my Hoyas in coconut husks and top dressed with coconut coir all in regular pots. I have tried self watering pots lately and my Hoyas are doing much better. I may start adding some orchid bark to the coconut husks/chips. I also sterilize everything, orchid bark moistened and microwaved 2 minutes then seal bag. Same for coconut bark and coir. I will find a gnat here and there around my other plants but not my Hoyas. No other pests around any of the plants. Thanks for all your tips.
Thank you for doing the video. It inspired me to repot some of my "statue" hoyas. It turned out they have dry rot so I'm glad I chopped and propped them. So now we 🙏 Happy holidays and to the best hoya days in 2025🎉
Happy Holidays Miro. Thank you for the video. I’m currently transitioning many of my self-watering pots from coir and perlite to a mix similar to your current organic mix. Last week I got around 40 done. What a week! Tomorrow my quarantine plants are getting treated and moved out into the house. Hoya caudata gold/yellow is going on my wish list along with many from your last video. Watching your videos keeps many of us looking forward to new and challenging Hoya! So thank you for that. Cheers and here’s to all your new video’s coming in 2025.
Happy New Year!!! Thank you for this wonderful video and year!! I am considering changing from PON to mixture like you. I have been considering it for months. I worry about the pipes in my home to be honest. Be well!
I moved most of mine out of pon and leca as well. But, I now use the pon and leca mixed into a soil mix (EB Stone bonsai soil to be exact) to make things airy and chunky. I mean....the pon and leca are just sitting here so....🤷♀️ I agree with you. My hoya loved pon in the beginning but they didn't seem to do well long term.
I am on the couch watching the world juniors hockey tournament and I was hoping for a video from you 😊I have the caudata silver.. it’s just given me a beautiful leaf.. I had about half my Hoya In pon but slowly have been moving them into a more aroid mix… but I am sure it’s flatmites that are stressing me out..
Wearing mealybugs 🤣 thanks for leaving that in Seeds are pests (assuming the worst) But really, it can be very annoying to get rid of the roots of weeds Mixes: Mainly pure tree fern Some that stayed wet/moist too long and some divas are in tree fern mixed with bark and perlite Heavy drinkers and windowsill Hoyas are in a mix of bark/perlite/cocosoil I think its good that you talk about your experiences with pon, even though some people will disagree.. I am happy that it works for some people (or maybe a lot of them) Theres also many people slowly but silently moving away from pon And many people experiencing problems with pon who do not think the problem is the pon “because it works for everyone else“ Whether a substrate or way of caring for plants works… often depends on how we care for our plants in combination with the space we grow in… there are many things that can work… and many things that wont work in every setting.. Its all about finding what works well and that differs for everyone.. Im currently happy with what I do, it seems to work, why fix what isn’t broken… but there are many things to try when I feel a plant isn’t reaching its potential (and you offer many potential options) Thank you for sharing your experiences and opinion 😊 (When includes Hoyas most of the time, Ill watch whatever you’re uploading, also always interested in your other projects)
Hi Miro! I don’t have any of my Hoya in pon-( I only have ten, I think ) but I have about 120 plants- my Alocasia Polly is in pon…..thinking about taking her out.. I have a Pink princess that I took out of pon today-I should have done what you did bcuz part of the root was torn right off! I wasn’t holding it right…. I felt so bad….. back into chunky aroid mix she goes! Thank you for your video 🪴 ps I am starting to detest my moss poles 🤣🤣 I’m jealous of your sphagnum moss it looks so clean! Happy New Year 🥳
so in my xp the optical fiber comes to a modem that only has 100mb/s so i had to use another modem connected to that. even tho the new modem had higher speed and my laptop can use a bigger speed it didnt work. so i googled and found out the cable between the 2 modems was an older one and couldnt support more than 100mb/s so i changed it. i cant remeber the actual difference but is something written on the cable. some letters differ. if this is also your case try finding what cable you use and change it to another one
I tried growing in pon but my Hoya started tanking so I put it back in organic mix. I only repotted one Hoya because I wasn’t that adventurous. Since that, I prefer to grow in an organic chunky/airy mix. I have the occasional mealy bug show up on a and it baffles me on its origin. 🤷🏻♀️
I love caudata ‘Gold’- someday I’ll get it. Do you want a horror story? I grew some Hoyas from seeds I purchased, sprouted them in fresh soil in sterilized pots, covered their containers with plastic wrap, and they grew. They also have soil mealy bugs in all their pots! WTF?
Oh my goodness! This sounds like the potting mix was infested, probably before you put them in there! How DARE they. :( I hope you get rid of them soon
Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks. Caudata gold is on the list now. So I find it interesting that lava rocks make that muddy mess, I am assuming, as it breaks down. Lately, I have experimented with mixing tree fern with the PON for propagation plants or rescues. Fast rooting. I'm also going to try pumice and tree fern. 🤓🧐🥸 Maybe just pumice.
What ratio is your tree fern to pumice mix? I would like to try that. I put a Wilbur Graves cutting in tree fern and perlite and it loved it- I just got two new leaves!
@laurajackson8556 I've mixed tree fern with PON but would like to experiment with Pumice. The ratio of PON to tree fern is more PON than tree fern. So far, everything roots quickly in that combination. I have added perlite to PON and liked that combination.
All day plant chores while having a LOTRs marathon sounds amazing!!! That might just be my 2025 New Years Day.👌🏽🤗💚
The way you called the mealy bug "honey "😂😂😂
Thank you for the video!
I could get used to this pace of uploading!

Great tips. I’ve never microwaved my cocoa husk or coco coir either. Have you gutted them with pests in them?
@ I buy buffered coconut bark and coir
Microwave to 180 degrees

That Caudata is stunning!
She is!!! Always amazes me
Your Caudata is stunning. It’s one of those dumpstery Hoyas.
It was very useful, thank you. Yes do more. 😊 happy New year. I hope that your dream come true and mealies croke. 🎉
Me too b

I out leca and coarse #4 perlite in my inorganic mix.
"I'd almost rather restart than untangle Hoya patella" 😂 I paraphrase but you're so funny
Interesting to hear you on organic v pon.
Do not use pon at all. Organic 100%
Thanks for a lovely hour,it went quickly.
I’m strictly inorganic using coco coir with coco husk mixed in.
Dude I’m afraid to upsize my pon hoyas because I’ve seen it go poorly for my alocasias. So I feel you and understand you fully on that!

Wearing mealybugs 🤣 thanks for leaving that in
Seeds are pests (assuming the worst)
But really, it can be very annoying to get rid of the roots of weeds
Mixes:
Mainly pure tree fern
Some that stayed wet/moist too long and some divas are in tree fern mixed with bark and perlite
Heavy drinkers and windowsill Hoyas are in a mix of bark/perlite/cocosoil

For your mbps capping issue, check your router QoS settings so it doesn't cap when a certain amount of devices connect at once.

Me too. They just pop up out of nowhere where.
I'm trying coco bark perlite leca and charcoal
Sounds similar to mine. I also add coarse #4 perlite, orchietta, worm castings? Coco coir
What do you use the moss hit? Moss poles? I have only one (hated) moss pole. I don’t use moss for anything else.
A question: why do you keep the bare vines? I usually cut those when i repot or trim my plants.
I’ve been thinking of trying pon but the expense of the startup is what’s stopping me. I’m a chronically overwaterer, so maybe my Hoyas will be ok.
WTF?

Did the Hoyas from seed survive the awful mealy bugs? What a horrible thing….
@@laurajackson8556 the youngsters are dosed with Marathon (imidicloprid), so we’ll see if they can stand the treatment
♥️😻♥️
You wear gloves to work with your plants? Why?
Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks. Caudata gold is on the list now.
