One thing I also loved about the Daisy Jones and the Six audiobook is that they included a song the characters in the novel composed at the end of the audiobook, and that little touch really just made me cry! Would definitely also recommend this one!
There’s no way the majority of people could listen to a book for the very first time and retain anything at that speed....BUT if you’ve read the book before I think listening in super fast speed isn’t as big of a deal because it’s already familiar and you can miss some things and still know what’s going on. It’s kind of just a refresher to what you already remember.
Nice. I love buying kindle and audible version at same time and using whisper sync to do audio in the car and kindle at home. Helps so much to get through books and for immersion.
One of my favorite audiobooks ever was Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. He reads it himself, and I admire him so much having read his book. Also, Rebecca was a fantastic audiobook, same vibes as The Turn of the Key, but a very different story.
Just made the switch to Libro.fm! Been meaning to, thanks for the push. Used my remaining audible credits on Becoming, Vivek Oji, and The Hating Game! I also loved A Life in Parts!
Gabby, you were so right about Karin Slaughter's thrillers. I can't read her books but I've tried them now as audiobooks and they are so good. I like the gore so it fits for me. Thanks!
I have read all of Ruth Ware's books by audiobook. She has the same narrator for all of them, Imogen Church, and she is freaking fantastic! I love her narrative style.
I would listen to her (Imogen Church) read the phone book!! I also love to listen to XE Sands and Finty Williams!! The narrator really makes or breaks the experience for me!!
@@Mel_leit I couldn't agree more!!! I will have to search them on GoodReads. Another couple of my favorites are Bahni Turpin and Ariadne Meyers. But Church is definitely my favorite!
Which app does your library use? Mine uses Libby, which lets you go up to 3x speed! If yours uses Libby too, open an audiobook, then at the top, if you tap the speed, you can either choose a preset (up to 2x) but then there's a scale on the right (under the "fine tune" header) that goes up to 3x speed!
I was just coming into the comments to ask why she doesn't use Libby! It's an Overdrive app, so I assume she can use Libby too. It's soooo much better than Overdrive and you can bump the speed way up.
I just discovered not all locations in the country has Libby, strange, right? I was just speaking with someone about that the other day, telling them about it,and they said they prefer to pick it up at the library. Crazy?
One thing I’ve noticed about Libby is that it doesn’t truly “download” the book to my phone. And if I go through an extended period without service (driving through mountains) my book will stop playing. I do audible books when I’m driving because of this. But Libro might be a good option too
I love a lot of the ones you mentioned. The audiobook for On the Come Up is also great and has the same narrator as The Hate U Give. Bhani Turpin is an amazing narrator. I will listen to anything she reads.
2 of my favorite audiobooks ever are The Hearts Invisible Furies and Becoming! I’ve listened to both several times and they’re just as good every single time.
Great recommendations and I just realized the super fast speed setting on Libro.fm compared to other services. I would add Trevor Noah as a great memoir because he narrates it himself but also does the different dialects from South Africa. It brings the book to life. And another author who is great to listen to is Helen Oyeyemi. She narrates her work with the most beautiful English accent that adds to the atmospheric tone of her books.
So glad you mentioned His & Hers! That’s one of my favorite audiobooks because of the creepy-as-hell murderer using the voice-alteration device. Also the fact that Jack Harper is voiced by none other than THE Richard Armitage (So I totally pictured him as Jack!)
Fangirl was actually the first audiobook I ever listened to and I loved it so much! It opened up a whole new world of reading to me; I love audiobooks!! 🖤 also, I use Libby through my library and they let you speed it up to 3x speed, maybe check and see if you can download Libby and connect your library card!
Currently listening to the audiobook for Needful Things and it's narrated by King. It also uses music and sound effects in between chapter or scene transitions and I love when audiobooks do that. It makes it extra creepy.
I agree, I can only get through memoirs and non-fiction when I’m listening to it! It’s way better! I’d highly recommend The Glass Castle and Educated if you haven’t listened to them yet, they’re so good!
This is a great list Gabby. The Libby app does go higher than 2x though. The preset speeds only go to 2x but the slider to the right of the presets will take you all the way up to 3x.
Michelle Obama’s book is so good 😭 I found it really inspiring but in a calm way. Sometimes memoirs from accomplished people make me anxious but hers felt calming’
Ohh yesss, I was reall considering listening to Daisy Jones. And I think you should definitely listen to The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, it is SO good, I don't think I'd have the same experience just reading it physically. Loved the recommendations!
Ooh it's good to know that Autoboyography is good via audio! I've been eyeing it off to try (I don't usually read contemporary etc) so the audio may be the way for me to go. :D Personally I LOVED The Name of the Wind on audiobook. I've read it physically too, it's one of my favourite books. But I know it's popular and people are intimidated by its size, so audio is the way to go! It has musical interludes at the chapter openings and Rupert Degas does an incredible job at varying his narration. :D
Loved The One on audio! I tend to read and listen to a book, depending on what I’m doing. My all time favorite audiobooks are (in no order because I loved them all): ❤️Daisy Jones & the Six ❤️Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo ❤️Illuminae ❤️Nightingale
My personal favorite audiobooks are The Diviners series. The narrator is completely brilliant and somehow pulls off a range of different character voices across age, gender, race, and time period. There's also music (CREEPY MUSIC) and I think listening to the series is a better experience than reading it physically. (Also you should try the Libby app instead of Overdrive! It's powered by Overdrive so it uses the same system at your library, but the interface is a million times better AND you can speed your audiobooks up to 3x)
Love love love the new choker. I have one just like it & a rainbow one I love to wear. 😍 DUDE the Sleeping Giants audiobook is fantastic! I recommend it to people all the time. I’m Thinking of Ending Things is so creepy on audio. I’ve wanted to read The Hating Game for a while so I might check it out on audiobook instead of reading the physical. Thanks for these great recs Gabby ☺️ idk if you’ve ever read In Cold Blood by Truman Capote but it’s one of my fave true crime books & I loved it on audiobook.
Agree reading an audiobook is a slightly different experience than reading paper-and-ink stories. Having someone distinguish between them is helpful. Personally tho, I no longer need to teleport through written work. More and more I'm taking my time. To each his own. Thx for posting.
Sleeping Giants seems like the audiobook and format for the Illuminae Files. I loved the audiobooks for The Seven Husband of Evelyn Hugo, The Hate U Give, and Felix Ever After.
Gabby I really do appreciate all of your experiences of either reading the books and or listening to the books I've never been one to listen to a book on tape well audible or the other place that you had mentioned but now I am changing my tune another worry I'm really enjoying it in fact I'm listening to if I could just a buck I think it's called if you tell by Greg something anyway I was thinking the way that the narrator represents near narrating the story she is doing a phenomenal job on it and I'm wondering also if you would be a good reading it myself so it's something to think about but I I do appreciate listening and watching you give your reviews of all the books it helps me a lot when deciding what to read next or what to listen to next
I sooooo agree with Daisy Jones and the six being an audiobook only thing. If I just had the book I would have dnf’d the book definitely if I had to read it on its own.
Thank you..so informative..wonder if available in Nj for local shops as well? Your videos will definitely get me through work today😂🤗🌻💕thx..more recs and longer nxt time for the work commuters...lol.
I am just diving in but just wanted to say that I‘ve been listening to audiobooks for at least two years and never realized you could increase the speed but you’re the second person I’ve heard mention it today 🤦🏼♀️
I haven’t even tried to listen to a romance book because I know I would feel weird having steamier scenes being read to me 😂. Also 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 for being able to listen to audiobooks so fast. I can barely do 2x speed!
Got into audiobooks earlier this year-it's great! Though I can only go up to 1.5 speed *MAX* so far - it's like watching movie while fast-forwarding, something doesn't feel right about it 😅
I REALLY want to read Daisy Jones. Heard amazing things and I've loved what I've read from her before. After I Do and Maybe in Another Life are SO good.
I don't know if you were aware of this but they are doing a movie of The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. They have the cast and all. It was delayed because of Covid, but it's coming!
I don't know about anyone else but my favorite audiobook so far is bram stoker's Dracula 💝 at least the one I listened to it had sound effects and different voice actors.
I can’t wait to read the Evelyn Hugo y audiobook one day like the physical version changed my life I’m so glad you loved vicc bc el 🤎🤎🤎 didn’t Akwaeke Emezi read the audio?
Well I'm not a huge fan of audio books , I'll admit. But I have started reading The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and I'm SO FREAKING LOVING IT!!! Hey, BTW, do you have any recs for light and breezy books? I have been reading too many thrillers and I am looking for.something different. Hope you get it. LOL. 😂
I very much agree with you on Daisy Jones and the Six, but I definitely disagree on The Unhoneymooners. I thought the narrator made the male lead (names are currently escaping my memory) sound like a dumb surfer dude and I just could NOT like either of the main characters. I am going to try physically reading it some day. Another audiobook (or, more accurately, audiobooks) is the Illuminae Files books. A full cast and sound effects made these books a truly immersive experience.
I’m able to listen at 2.0, but sometimes I want to go to 1.75, to get more out of the book.I’ve forgotten whole books recently because I went to fast, and just missed too much.
I can totally relate to having awkward romance audiobook listening experiences!! When I listened to the sex scenes in verity I couldn’t help but laugh my ass off because the narrator was describing explicit content with a Siri voice 😂😂😂
One thing I also loved about the Daisy Jones and the Six audiobook is that they included a song the characters in the novel composed at the end of the audiobook, and that little touch really just made me cry! Would definitely also recommend this one!
Wow how are you able to listen to 2.5 speed that’s crazy fast for me!⚡️⚡️⚡️
I know, these UA-camrs amaze me. Depending on the book, I’ve listened as fast as 1.75, but even *that* is pushing it!
@@LadyRainstorm4 Exactly!
I know right! Usually I listen to 1.5 speed sometimes 1.75 speed depends on the book 😃
I know right! I can't understand a thing that's happening on double speed.
There’s no way the majority of people could listen to a book for the very first time and retain anything at that speed....BUT
if you’ve read the book before I think listening in super fast speed isn’t as big of a deal because it’s already familiar and you can miss some things and still know what’s going on. It’s kind of just a refresher to what you already remember.
Hello gabby! You are the only reason why i check my youtube everyday - just to check for your new video 🤣🤣🤣
Nice. I love buying kindle and audible version at same time and using whisper sync to do audio in the car and kindle at home. Helps so much to get through books and for immersion.
I was literally manifesting that someone would do an audiobook recommendation lol I’m always in the lookout
The 00s vibe 😍 I love the choker you wear you're so Gorg 💜🙌🏿‼️
I was about to comment the same thing!
Signed up for libro through your link... so happy to support not only book stores but also you ❤️
thank you 😭🥺🥰
We need an updated audiobook recommendations video! 😁🤞🏻
I loved Daisy Jones and the Six on audiobook. Jennifer Beals voice was so good as Daisy.
One of my favorite audiobooks ever was Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. He reads it himself, and I admire him so much having read his book. Also, Rebecca was a fantastic audiobook, same vibes as The Turn of the Key, but a very different story.

The Night Swim was amazing as an audiobook!
I’m listening to The Unhoneymooners as per your recommendation and it is melting my heart!!! So in love with how sweet Ethan is!

It’s always a great day when Gabby updates😌💚🖤
The Get A life, Chloe Brown audiobook is amazing!! I've already listened to it twice this year :D
I don't listen to audio books but this was still fun to watch 😄🎧

100% agree on Daisy Jones & The Six. I almost DNF’d and then i got the audiobook and it became one of the best stories.

I just got really into audio books so this video couldn't have come at a better time! :)
Thanks for this, I am making a list.
You motivate me so much .
I agree, I can only get through memoirs and non-fiction when I’m listening to it! It’s way better! I’d highly recommend The Glass Castle and Educated if you haven’t listened to them yet, they’re so good!
Didn’t listen to those two, just read them normally but DAMN those are both some of my favorite memoirs.
I listened to The One, loved all of the characters!
I never read nonfiction/memoirs physically, audiobooks definitely help me pick up more of them!
Loved this. Please do more 👌
I'll definitely check out the audio for Sleeping Giants - sounds right up my alley! Thanks, Gabby!

GABBY. YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO MY FAVORITE MURDER. literally my favorite podcast ever 😭 i think you’d love it!
I read Gone Girl a few years ago on audio, because I hadn't been able to get too far into the physical version
I cant concentrate on audiobooks. But it was nice listening to you
The BBC radio version of Good Omens was FANTASTIC. Highly recommend. 😉

I'm sure libro is great, I haven't tried it yet. But Libby by Overdrive lets you go up to 3x as well :)
Yes pet cemetery on audiobooks is amazing I personally loved it
Hi I’m Italian and Libro doesn’t really work here... but I’m going to read with my eyeballs some of your suggestions🧡
I watch your videos on 1.5x speed and already feel like it's crazy hahahaha
Have a great day Gabby
I loved listening to the mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson on graphic audio

Oh does Akwaeke actually narrate the audiobook? I didn’t even notice 🤣 that’s so cool!!
YES SLEEPING GIANTS AND DAISY JONES ARE GREAT

Can you please read more books 📚 like sylvain neuvel or is their other books with sound effects in them?
I suggest anyone to listen to Sadie on audiobook (kinda sad she didn’t mention it)
Gabby I hope you will review more true crime! Maybe?? 🤷🏼♀️

Any recs for fluffy/happy books? I don’t like sex scenes being read to me and most of the fluffiest books are romances
Gabby mentioned The Unhoneymooners - Im not a romance reader but I read that one and enjoyed it a lot! It has minimal steam IMO.
@@molliee5183 I’ve already read that one! I agree that the steam level is pretty low on the scale
And oh my I feel the same about romance books 😂 I don’t think I’ve ever listened to one
Love this! I killed Zoe Spanos was a good audio book
The diviners is a great audiobook. Makes it so creepy
Yesss!
I can totally relate to having awkward romance audiobook listening experiences!! When I listened to the sex scenes in verity I couldn’t help but laugh my ass off because the narrator was describing explicit content with a Siri voice 😂😂😂
MICHAEL C HALL NARRATING SEMATARY OMG?!?! Let’s buddy read!
Omg yes I’m down! I read the book physically last year and it’s one of my faves, but would be down to buddy read listening to the audio sometime 😌🤩
Hey
I also listen to them on high speed lol
I did not like Daisy Jones & the Six. The book got on my nerves. I will try audiobook. 🎃
2.5 speed? 😳
Hahaa
I watch UA-cam videos at 1.75x EXCEPT yours haha you do that all on your own! Hahaa
💜💜💜
