It's not easy to do colostomy in a case which is emergency. The sutures won't hold on large bowel because of relatively poor vasculature compared to small bowel. Hence always operate on small bowel in emergencies if both options are available.

Right, a diversion loop sigmoid colostomy would have been a better option.
Sigmoid colostomy should have been the right operation (easy to manage). Also, what is the cause of rectal perforation?
