Twon I grew up in the late 70's early 80's and Teena Marie was favorite female singer - period. While other may have been more popular, none sang from the heart like her. You have got to check out her ballad "Out on a limb" or "If I were a Bell". Both just will get you in the heart. Lady T was the best.
Enjoyed the reaction Twon! Teena Marie was the real deal. Not only could she sing, she was also a musician, song writer, producer, composer and arranger. Twon, I'd like you to react to I Can Understand It by New Birth. It came out in 75 and and I think you'll enjoy the vibe! Thanks Twon!
Yes Yes Yes!!!! 🙌🙌🙌 SO glad you are reacting to Lady!T’s “Square Biz”! When she was signed to Motown and this record was released, the album didn’t have her picture because they weren’t sure how she would be received; they didn’t have to worry; she is R&B Royalty 👑❤️❤️❤️. Please react to her song “Behind The Groove”; 🔥🔥🔥
This song and album did have her face on it. It's the the photo Twin has on the right...the album was entitled It Must Be Magic...it was her 1st album that she wasn't on the cover.
Her picture was on the cover of The Must be magic album which was her third realease... Her debut album from circa 1979 called Wild and Peaceful produced by Rick James did not have her features or any picture of her on the front cover Motown were caucious of upsetting the black community by having a white artist singing soul or funk music.. But in the end they didn,t care what colour she was they new she was a star and they loved her and she loved them... Which proves music has no colour or bounderies...
Teena wrote, produced, arranged almost all the material on her 14 albums. Rick James got her foot in the door, but it was Teena’s musical genius that kept her in the room for over 30 years!
Pop just means popular music. In the 80s pop music genres like in "We are the World" you had people who were Country R&B and Rock come together. But they were all pop music icons. It wasn't until the early 1990s-2000s where they labeled pop music a certain style.
You just made all that nonsense up. POP means Top 40 POP RADIO. Country is not POP. R&B rarely crosses over to POP (shoutout Nicki the Queen). Rock rarely crosses over to POP. This is why Taylor LEFT COUNTRY for POP, duh.
That's my jam when I was in highschool 1981 I played it all time go Teena still play her to day her and Rick James back than was One Dance right now hey
Nope. 1981's Rapture by Blondie who's raps by front woman Debbie Harry beat Teena to record store shelves (but only by a few months.) Hey can we all please put out into the universe that WE NEED A TEENA MARIE & RICK JAMES BIOPIC ...SO MANY BEING DONE THAT WE"VE ALREADY SEEN. I don't need to hear more about Pam and Tommy lets get to the interesting stuff
Hey Twon That was a cool reaction to Teena Marie. She is definitely one of my FAVORITE female artists of all time. I'm in my mid 50's. I actually remember when she day viewed with Rick James when I was a freshman in high school. Every one was IN SHOCK to find out that this HOT female R&B / Soul singer was White when they saw her Album cover. My request to you is to do a reaction to the LAST OF THE GREAT R&B bands...MINT CONDITION. The song is So Fine. I think you and your audience will like it.
I have that album still, thankfully it never saw the sun. Remember when our Vinyl used to warp in the sun? Had to put pennies on the needle casing so you could still play it and not have the needle jump the bump! Lol
Hey Twon, I have SO MANY more song suggestions for you. The Stylistics, “Superman Lover” by Johnny Guitar Watson. ‘Just to keep you satisfied’ and ‘distant lover’ by Marvin Gaye. Strawberry letter 23 by Brothers Johnson. You will love them!
Whats cool about listening to old school music is that the lyrics have all the slang of the times in it....Square Biz was a common phrase we would use back then and can't leave out "Cat Daddy" and just like todays lingo it was used 900 ways!!
I've suggested many songs I'd give anything for you to react to,Twon. But there is ONE that YOU will not be able to hold your heart in your chest during listening. "Change Me (LIVE)" by Tamela Mann. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. ♥ I adore Teena and your reaction, but I just didn't know where to beg the Tamela Mann "Change Me - LIVE" suggestion. I saw others react and you deserve it too!!
The song you're thinking of is "Crip Hop" by Tha Eastsidaz ft. LaToiya Williams! They interpolated "Square Biz". 3:23 being the most familiar part of the sample, when LaToiya comes in!! ua-cam.com/video/RrH96Xwoauc/v-deo.html
A lot of funky songs were played while he or his vieja (old lady) was sitting on the couch, but I don't remember this song. For example "I'd rather be with you" by Bootsy Collins. React to that song.
Rick's sound (along with great groups of the 70's especially) featured horns. Rick's band, the Stone City Band influences are all over Teena's sound at that time.
Also don't discount that she played all her own instruments, wrote and produced on her own. I feel she is often over shadowed by Rick James. Dont get me wrong love them both always.
@christine cleavest at that time Rick was an A lister entertainer, he was a megastar. Teena always wrote songs, but it was when got with Rick that she found her place in music. She quickly became my favorite female artist (because she was so talented), but it was Rick who put her on.
Roberts Flack n Donny Hathaway -back together again and The closer I get to u--Donny Hathaways Song for u- he was a magnificently talented but troubled soul who unfortunately committed suicide but he left us with such deep music that u feel
*TWON* ! #NoLimitNation! 🔥 Lady T was the Ivory Queen! R.I.P. More Old School Classics, please! (I have a million recommendations) Be well, and be GREAT! 👊🏾💪🏾😎
Teena Marie is legendary, this 1980 classic song and album is pure 🔥. She has so many hits worth taking a dive into.
Yessss! Teena is the ivory queen! “Lover Girl” is another great upbeat dance song. For an amazing slow jam, check out “Out on a Limb”. It’s 🔥!
Out on a limb is a great one also.
That's on my playlist.
When somebody said they were talkn square biz, that meant they were keeping it 💯. Lol😎
R.I.P.LADY T 🕊 🕊 🕊 🕊

You can hear the Rick James production on this one ❤️
This is a Teena Marie production. Read the credits.
@@elixavier8351 You are correct; his influence is definitely there from their prior work together; one of my favorite songs
This is teena marie she wrote it produce she gets all the credit not Rick JAMES
This song gives so much LIFE! Unless a person is old old, or dead from the soul out or inside out, you HAVE to feel it. Thank you for reacting, Twon!

It's Teena's voice and that slammin' bass on this one for me! Nice reaction!
I have that album still, thankfully it never saw the sun. Remember when our Vinyl used to warp in the sun? Had to put pennies on the needle casing so you could still play it and not have the needle jump the bump! Lol
Such a shame, she had to have an initiative made for her to even get her music out there.
Lol yu a real one for knowin this was the sample snoop remixed for baby boy.. the song is called crip hop 💯😂
Love this girl! What a voice! Never got all her props tho becuz main stream didn't know where to put her.
Teena and Rick James were a couple and he was her producer. They have some great duets!
Rick only produced her first project. Teena produced her other 14 projects.
