Thank you for sharing. Gasoline leaks a lot at the bottom of my bus when I fill it till pump clicks. So I just put 3/4 of fuel capacity. Now I will go check if there are cracks near the top of fuel neck. New sub here. 😊
inside the engine bay waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay up there behind the spare tire area is a small vent line with about three inches of hose. I've never bought a bus that didnt need that vent line replaced and it spills like you mention. The vent lines on top of the gas tank could also leak.
This is a good time to check out the hose that attaches to the tank itself too. I just had to replace that one due to small cracks at the tank end. It can be done without dropping the engine by bending the tin so the firewall can be removed. A bit of a pain, but once the firewall is out you'll have good access to the hose. Sorry, I didn't make a video for that job. Thanks for your comment.

Thank you! That's exactly what I'm about to do...on my '74 white VW bus. I hope you post more tutorials like this!

It's in the engine compartment, beside the battery
I’ve a ‘72. I could never imagine the ease of having the ‘73+ access hatch.
Carlos Z it’s magical!
Where is the pie plate located? Thanks
To Lee It’s on the side wall of the engine compartment

My bus reeks like gas in cab after I topped tank full this week.
It's your vent lines. Read my response above.
Nice tutorial mate. That's not a fun job right there.
