Tori is almost 60. I think she deserves respect instead of being torn down by everyone. You can't stay 22 forever & we all change vastly as we age. You'll see. I'm just glad she's alive & well & performing still. What she looks like... who cares. Her music got me through my youth, I am thankful & respectful. The past is over, luckily we have recordings if we want that experience. I personally enjoy this♡♡♡♡
I am respectful of her, but I also notice that no one is forcing her to perform and make sub-standard records. If she can't sing or play or write as she used to, she can just explore other ventures: she could write more books, even fiction books, she could produce other artists or theater shows... That would be her only way not to destroy her immense legacy. The public has the right to criticize an artist who has become disappointing!
@@vins1979 wow, well lucky for us all we have free speech & free will. You get to have your opinion & Tori gets to keep performing for those who still enjoy her. I won't engage in how I feel about your comment because, to each his own. I simply don't agree for a myriad of reasons, and that's ok too.
@@slowdived1000 what a silly comment. I am a HUGE fan of Tori and of course I keep checking her new material, HOPING she will return to be the great artist she used to be.
I absolutely adore you Tori Amos. You are a flickering light in my life for so long now. You blaze bright. Possibly the finest pianist that there ever was. Just an absolute massive fan forever ❤️
As to any complaints of her voice, GO SEE HER LIVE! I saw her in Glasgow, and this recording does it NO justice. She is as magical and beautiful and ethereal as she ever was. Come on people.
This is completely absurd today we have the best recording devices and her voice sounds much better with any crappy device from the 90s. It's just painful to listen to her sing.
If you could only listen to music by one artist (what a horrible thought) Tori Amos would overwhelmingly be my choice. The sheer volume of work, variation, & potential for even more is all present.
Anyone worried about her voice: please watch any US show she has done so far. Much improved. Seems like she was still finding her range in these early shows!
Even with her voice “not sounding as good as it used to”, there’s something magical and powerful about these new performances (so far, at least). The instruments sound amazing and the playing is spot on. I feel like she’s rocking but bringing me calm at the same time. It’s like she’s taking me across the oceans away from the horror and violence on the lands.
Agreed. I am obsessively watching all the videos from the London shows and the new arrangements have floored me. For lack of a better word - is it vocal restraint? Its allowing other elements of the songs to step forward and I am mesmerized. Her use of keyboards and synths and effects - just beautiful. I so appreciate everything she has shared with us over the years. She will always tell us the truth. I have read so many comments on many videos and people are heartbroken about these changes and I am over here freaking out like - "she just changed up this entire song's arrangement and its better?!! How am I so effing lucky to walk this planet with her and witness this artist? Holy kcuf I cannot wait until she is in NYC in May." And on and on. 💖 Change is inevitable. Time carries on. If we are lucky, we age and pur bodies change. I am not the same 15 yr old I was when I first discovered her some 26 years ago.
@@jeanshurman Yeah, “restraint” is a good word. It seems like it’s purposeful to me. She hit the high notes during the chorus of Give and the low ones during the chorus of Liquid Diamonds, so I think she still can when she chooses to.
There are people complaining? It's a more nuanced performance... class is permanent. She's expressing herself as she sees fit on that day. Be grateful for any magic that's still around ✨
Listen back to the Glastonbury version and I have heard this live. She always rearranges her songs to keep the songs interesting. Look at the live version of Sugar from To Venus and Back. I have very much enjoyed this arrangement. She gives the piano a chance to play her part in the song. She is singing this with her usual conviction. Yes I know we all love when she used to sing the higher notes to this song especially. She has to choose when touring how much she excepts her voice, she has many shows booked. She is just reconnecting and I'd professional as ever
Although her talent is still immense and I respect her a great deal, Tori has become a little too adult contemporary for me. There was a danger, a bite to her 90’s work that she just doesn’t seem interested in exploring anymore. Even in her modern interpretations of her old songs, there’s just this disconnect for me now that I don’t know how to articulate other than to say it all seems muted, like she’s holding the fire back to make things sound as technically lovely and pleasant as possible, when the rawness was what I identified with. It’s really been that way since the early 2000’s, save a couple songs here and there. I miss her; I miss being a member of the cult of Tori like I was as a teenager, but I just can’t reconnect, try as I might, and it makes me sad.
Felt the exact same way watching this. Tori has and always will be one of my favourite artists, but as you said the bite has deffintely muted as she's aged. The good news is that I think it happened as she became happier in life (and now likely no longer has that angst in her anymore). I'm happy for her if she no longer connects with that angst but it's sad for the rest of us as that was a gift musically.
That’s is called growing as a person. Who wants to mentally stay at their 20s ??? Happy for her being softer less anger less misery. And I wish that to any human being.
One could argue that, even with the beauties of mellowing with age, a performer could still use memories and imagination to access and bring the audience rawness and fire - as well as simply perform those qualities as a performer does. I have no doubt she’s capable of all that.
@@FCignelli She did some performances before this show and had a lot of time to practice. I love her last album and going to see her live anyway. In 2017 I noticed for the first time that something was going on with her voice, I don’t know if it has to do with aging, or some damage, it’s different and she’s adapting to the voice that she has now.
@@michaelfloss845 Well that happens with age. However, performing in front of thousands is often different than perfrorming in your studio. Regardless she sounded lovely.
