"do you really want to hurt me" is their classic all time great. Still stands the test of time. Why they broke up? George was in love with drummer, who was not in love with him.
George and the drummer had an affair and he wasnt very nice ti geirge. When he sings every day is like survival he means there was also a lot of jealousy involvef. Boy George is very talented and has a great Smokey Robinson" type voice. It is hard to look at anyone else in the group therefore jealousy.

Basic theme of the song... Be yourself or else there is a price to pay. You boys are pretty much the definition of this song. You come across as genuine and people enjoy you for it. Now this is generally the easy part in life. The tough part is to recognize that in order for me to have the freedom to be myself, I have to be willing to allow others that same freedom.

I was in kindergarten when this song came out. It was a major hit, and it was the mid-80s, and because of the outlandish appearances at the time, I don't think anyone really registered that Boy George was a drag queen. My father said he loved Boy George's voice but thought he was "the ugliest woman he had ever seen" when he first saw this video. My parents took my sister and me to see Culture Club in concert--my first concert--and I thought he was actually a clown.
But that was a great thing about the 80s: androgyny was generally accepted and people didn't determine whether or not they liked musical artists based on their appearances.
I fully expected you guys (or anyone today) to comment on his appearance as soon as you saw him. It makes me feel good about where we are now that you didn't even seem to notice.

"Was it a guy?" was a question I asked when their first album cover came out in 83. Boy George changed things and with Culture Club, put out some great tunes, "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?" was off their first album, my fave of theirs. Karma Chameleon if off their second.

Fun fact...Boy George's manager is PK Kemsley. Pk's wife is Dorit Kemsley from the reality show Real Housewives of Beverly Hills ( from Bravo channel). Boy George has appeared on the show a few times in the past seasons.

British 80s music!
Culture club by themself is a race mixture. I love the way they presented their concept of diversity and iqualness. The 80 was the begging of breaking with all those society stigmas and boy George is a well example of that change of perpectives and you can see it in his songs. I recommend also the war song, victims, white boys and changging everyday.
A chameleon is a lizard who can actually change his colors in order to blend in to wherever he's at, so he can't be recognized as to what he is. If he's sitting on a brown tree branch he can become brown. If he's sitting in green grass he becomes green. He can fit in anywhere. It's all about deception. Boy George has an amazing voice. It was actually about his bf who was the drummer of the group, the difficulties of maintaining both a professional and love relationship (hence the line "You're my lover not my rival") and also how the bf would not show commitment to the relationship ("You string along.. you string along..").
Apparently their relationship was hush hush so Boy George used his lyrics as an outlet to show his feelings about his bf.
