Been doing deep dives on Gregg, Duane and bands … even listened to audiobooks from their autobiographical stories … so this is a real treat seeing him when he was in his mid-30’s … thank you. What has stuck me most is how fast they both mastered their music and from very young ages … and knew their direction never giving up on it … 2 old souls whom lived fast and hard … yet with so much humble respectful quiet grace. RIP
They were talented, motivated, loved music, and it was their way out it seems. I wish Duane had been around to make some more music for us...and poor Gregg for losing him.
Gregg was so handsome, sweet and well spoken in this interview...he was also very patient and polite and very open with the interviewer....RIP Gregg we miss you...
Gregg Allman was perhaps the greatest most humble rock star of all time! So honest and raw and musically one of the best "all around" musicians in the music industry. A perfectionist! And the best damn voice the blues has ever heard !
He's so easy going plus he thinks before he speaks which makes him a very intelligent man. He looks so damn fine in this video and I melt just listening to him talk. We miss you
Very cool to see this in one piece, thanks for splicing it all together Susan. When I originally posted this interview back in 2010 UA-cam wouldn't let me post anything longer than about 10 minutes so I had to chop it up. The original VHS tape this came from is sitting in a shoe box up in my bedroom closet and I'm pretty sure it doesn't work anymore. This band was so much fun to play with, especially with the Toler Brothers in the lineup. Gregg was always very kind and soft spoken. There are only two of us left now from this particular lineup, Chaz Trippy and me. Luckily Clint Davis walked out in front of the band with his VHS camera and caught some of the show. Thanks again for posting.
Best lengthy video I've seen. Gregg was shy, and from what I've read, not always easy to interview because of that. He really opens up and talks in this one. He was so handsome in his younger days!! I will really miss his voice...so greatful for all the great music!
I miss him too. I think he was so fine and he still had that something about him even as an older man and he wasn't even that old when he passed. I'm grateful for all the music too sister!
This interview is such a treat. I can watch him over & over again. Gregg was like a fine wine, he got even more beautiful with age. Also an ideal man of masculinity. His music & distinctive voice will stand the rest of time.
You're so welcome - glad you appreciate it as I do. I forwarded it to Cher the day after he died - I don't know whether she saw it, but I thought she might like to if she hadn't. or hadn't in awhile. It really is wonderful.
I've always thought Gregg was a great-looking man. I'm a sucker for long hair, but there's gotta be more than hair going on. Gregg seemed to have it going on here. Thanks so much for putting this up and putting a smile in my heart today. This is June of 2021 and I still miss him. Can't seem to get enough of him lately. He was a good-looking man even in his end days. Here's something I've been thinking about a lot lately, especially since we've lost Neil Peart, this is probably going to be the decade that we are gonna lose so many of the greats. It's gonna be a rough ride.
@@audreycaruso8111 It's always nice to know somebody out there read your comment. It's amazing to think about all the freaking awesome music our generation has had the pleasure of not only listening to, but catching a concert here and there. @@tammieparrishmiller3669 Thank you for the kind words..You were so fortunate to see Gregg live...I like you can't seem to get enough of him lately...and would have given anything to see him live...I'm so sorry I missed the chance...and Peace to you as well Tammie..
Thanks @Tammie Parrish Miller and @@audreycaruso8111 for your comments - I'm just seeing them now - today would have been Gregg's 74th birthday. I miss knowing he's in the world with us. It is very tough losing these people we essentially grew up with. I wonder whether any generation before us felt as strong and meaningful connection to artists of their era...? NOTE: not sure why fricking @ mentions isn't working. Ugh UA-cam and its "improvements" :(
Gregg does his best interviews sober. He's so forthcoming about the struggles about living as a rock star. Gregg says it all in his song, old before my time. Such a haunting tale. Thanks for the unforgettable music. You'll never be forgotten.
Glad you enjoyed! I feel fortunate that during my coming of age most guys still had, if not long, at least shaggy hair. It pains me to see young men now shearing off their hair....we used to make fun of guys with "crew cuts." When they get older they'll have missed the opportunity to luxuriate in their own bountiful youthful heads of hair. I remember, just before my time, you'd see guys with long hair like Gregg Allman - always loved that contrast between masculinity and male strength and the softness and beauty of great hair :D
He loved us Yankees. The Beacon Theater was one of his favorite spots. We love the blues here in NY. I am a blues musician. There's no such thing as British Blues.🤣 Gregg calls out Dicky Betts and said "it would be the Allman Brothers Band if Dicky comes back". He really is glowing about playing with Dicky here. I remember there being a little hiatus with Dicky Betts. I was about 12 when they did this interview. I'm 54 now. The Allman Brothers Band had done a lot before 1982. Gregg felt it was time for another record and Dicky left for some time off. Greg did "I'm no Angel" and his solo record. He wanted to experiment and jam with horns in the band. That was 10 years of the Allman Brothers Band and then Dicky came back and they did it again in the 1990's. I caught them at the Jones Beach Theater. Duane Allman and his slide guitar came on the scene in about 1969. I was born listening to this music. It speaks to my core. ❤
Allman Bros.Band is timeless. At that time Gregg was never sober which influences the true person,as a person. Great talent and performer, who overcame his demons, and thankfully lived through all of it. Great footage, Thanks.
What a great interview! He is so shy and it's nice to see him open up in this interview. I'm reading his book and he has been through some tough times and survived.

Wow, thank you! That was great, Coldsmoke! I've never seen him talk/b interviewed. What a genuine-seeming guy. Definitely working class steel-belt America -- had no idea he was from Detroit, but see it now. Vry cool. What a sweetie.
Susan Doran I fully agree with you Susan. Gergg's life of loss and hardships starting from near infancy no doubt had an affect in him And his songwriting. Bob on the other hand appears plainly jolly and almost childlike with giddiness...even the interviewer was taken back by this when he looked down, smiled and sort of laughed at Bob.

how so did Cher screw up? I think they were just a profound mismatch out in the different worlds they inhabited, even tho they loved each others' souls.
He's magnetic but in a human way. Crazy how the filmmaker ruined his life story by mistaking the train speed. A girl was killed? The man in charge went to prison? Life is too tricky. Tell everybody you knew that you are sorry for mistakes and appreciate or love them.
