Congratulations to Jeremy and Meghan on their new adventure! My hope is the new owners of their fabulous gardens and home will really appreciate what a gem they have!
We left a garden and home that had been in my husband's family over 40 years. It was an extremely difficult decision to make but we looked it as an opportunity to start with a clean slate and create the garden space we wanted to build and enjoy together...Our garden is wherever our HOME is....All the best to this couple on their new journey! He is correct about good neighbors! We don't have a good one on the one side of the property so we have created a large living screen there. I have a great neighbor on the other side and she and I share a love of plants.
We have the exact same issue. One side is good neighbors, other side is not. Behind us are good neighbors and across the street is a good neighbor, so we feel blessed! Hopefully the not so nice neighbors will move after last child graduates from high-school or college. In the mean time we have part of our fence up. Waiting to get more posts to finish then fence for privacy, then add even more living screen to that area. These posts are so expensive right now! Money is tight.
This was bittersweet - the love and respect that Jeremy and Meghan have for their garden and nature is special. Wishing you both the best in your move - thank you for sharing your beautiful garden and hard work with us here. I have enjoyed watching the videos at this beautiful place where we all learned more than gardening. We all 'signed up' to learn about gardening with Jim and Stephany but got so much more than that.❤
I'll miss Jeremy's love of rocks, plants and gardening but most of all I'll miss his beautiful voice. He has such a nice way he talks. Good luck Jeremy and welcome to Alabama.
Jeremy's expertise, his knowledge & hard work will take him everywhere. Yes, thank you Jim & steph for sharing ❤️ this magnificent & unique sacred place. Very humbled man & looking forward seeing the new place.
Jim/Jeremy, love the real talk. Never thought a garden video would tug at ya! Not Closing the Garden, just giving it a new Innkeeper 🌱 Loved your subtle humor Jeremy and intense descriptions of how you shaped the space. Cannot believe it’s in the middle of a neighborhood!
Congratulations to Jeremy! What a beautiful space you created at the Bristol Briar - the new owners will be truly blessed. Looking forward to seeing your new creations in Alabama. And thank you to Jim for sharing this space and - your friendship with Jeremy.
OMG! Welcome to lower Alabama.💖 Bellingrath Gardens is a wonderful treasure here. Jim will have to visit at Christmas time to see the Bellingrath Christmas in Lights.🌲
I remember when the Bristol Briar Botanical Garden (as I call it) was a flat and bland bunch of grass with a few shrubs. I have followed and been a small part of the transformation of that space (I was the guy who brought those poor battered cercidiphyllum japonicum 'Pendulum' back from Ohio many years ago.) I am going to miss my great friends immensely but, I am happy to see them following their chosen path. Best of luck you guys, and thanks so much for the videos Jim!.
I remember when you bought the property and I was able to tour it with the Holly Springs Garden Club, of which you were a member at the time. What you have done is nothing short of amazing and I have enjoyed when you have shared your journey. All the best to you and Megan. You deserve it. Can't believe it has been 13 years!
Thanks Jeremy for sharing the building and establishing of your beautiful garden 💚 Thank you to Jim for filming the series, it was really interesting and unique! Best of luck & an exciting future awaits 🪨🍀🪷
So exciting for you! also sad to leave this beautiful garden behind. I live just across the bay in Fairhope Alabama. I recently sold my home and garden in Daphne, and am starting over by myself at age 69, not as easy as it once was. But this new to me but older home has never been gardened in. I’ve already planted several Hydrangeas, roses and Gardenias, I desperately need trees, as I have 1 magnolia in back and 2 huge very old crepe myrtles along the street ( the entire street is lined with them) lots of sun. I’m visiting in Ohio right now and finding great buys on plants, and hoping I don’t come home to a bunch of dead ones as no rain and excessive heat for 2 weeks. 🙁
Jeremy, I came across your house on Zillow and I cried. It is like a dream property for me…so AMAZING! So I googled and found you here. I love Horttube and have seen you before on here but didn’t make the connection. Thank you for sharing your gift and garden with all of us! Thank you Jim for all you do too!
when i move am digging it all up and moving it lol. i cant bare to leave my garden in a house that is falling apart but am sad because your garden is super developed.
I carried stuff around from rental to rental for 10 years until I had a home again. Some were in huge tree pots & had to be moved with a hand truck! Sure made for big plants to install here, very gratifying.
Bellingrath house and gardens (and, if I recall correctly, that’s how it was referred to back in the 70s) was the first public gardens I ever visited. I was in the gardening and flower club in 7th grade and we took a field trip there. It’s about 2.5 hours from where I grew up. I later visited a couple more times but haven’t been in many years due to moving away. I would love to go back. In addition to the beautiful gardens, another area that made an impression on my 12 year old self was their china collection. It was the first time I had ever seen fancy china displayed and I loved it too. 😀. I hope he enjoys living on the Gulf Coast. He won’t be far from New Orleans, either. laissez les bon temps rouler!
I've got boxes of fancy china passed down to me. Only child could care less about them. Have no idea if or how to part with them 😕 They were always displayed in Mom's china cabinet but I've no way to display them.
If I still lived there I’d it in an offer. I remember the property when it was a pretty blank canvas and the house was manilla folder yellow. What a transformation. That pond really became something with Megan’s help. It’s amazing how much you 2 have in common - and complement each others strengths too.
What a wonderful video. Thanks to Jeremy for sharing his personal memories. I’ve always thought leaving a journal or a home and garden for the next owners would be a wonderful thing - but who has time? I spent 20 years making a garden in Virginia, then left it to start over on a tiny plot in South Carolina. It was bittersweet leaving the old garden, but the excitement of starting over in a place with better soil, palm trees, much more rain, warmer weather, (and so I mention palm trees?) outweighed the sadness. Even when you’re old, looking at a blank piece of land and planning what you can do, one hole at a time, is exciting enough to make you feel thirty again.
Congratulations on the new job! I AM going to miss watching this garden grow. But I look forward to seeing what you do in your new space too! It's all good!
Aww, bittersweet! Hopefully, the next owner of the Bristal Briar will be a plant enthusiast who loves gardening or at the very least, love the maintenance of an established garden. Looking forward to the development of the next garden. Best wishes to Jeremy and Megan on their new endeavor!
I loved this video. I’m happy for Jeremy and Megan. I also think the video was good for those of us who are contemplating moving and leaving a Garden that we love.
This might be one of my favorite videos on your channel. Such an awesome perspective from both of you. Seeing Jeremy's appreciation for Megan's contributions was really neat, too. Looking forward to seeing what they do next. Maybe this was discussed previously, but I'm wondering how they decided on the name for their garden?
What a sweet video. Leaving a garden is always hard but looking ahead to what's coming is exciting. Thank you Jim for sharing Jeremy's garden. I just purchased Lilium formosanum and I'm looking for Ficus palmata 'Icebox' all thanks to you two!
I wish them all the best. I'll miss the interactions with you two. The knowledge you two have and your descriptions of your plants really shows the love and passion for nature. You will have to travel to Mobile to do your interviews now.
Man oh man ..what a emotional episode..All it needed was beer..lol..Two good friends enjoying memories. Didn't see much of house..but i did see the garden...whats the saying ' land is worth more than the house..What a garden! Can't wait to see em doing doughnuts at his new job! Lol Thanks for a great episode..Hope to see more of Jeremy's ideas come to life..
It was surprising to me when I realized how much love and attention I had put into my own gardens in years past. I felt a certain sense of loss when leaving even if exciting possibilities awaited. Wishing you both all the best.
Congratulations on your new position. Just a comment on your garden, I feel it looked nicer when there was more empty space between the plants. The more open space I feel high lights each plant to a greater extent.
Interesting point about the sale of a home including the plants in the ground as part of the property. Love the exclamation points of the white lilies in the video! Whoever purchases this property will be getting a diamond in the rough!
When we bought our previous home many years ago, there was a clause in the property description “tagged plants do not convey”. I didn’t mind, since her collection wasn’t my cup of tea and I wanted to make the garden my own. Gardeners are such nice people, though, I’m sure most of them would be willing to share a division or a cutting with new owners.
I wish I was in a position to purchase and care for that property. It is stunning and I imagine very emotional to leave. Best of luck in your new adventure. I’m sure you’ll find a buyer that will care for the garden and pond.
Another great video - and best of luck to Jeremy and Meghan in their next journey. I recognize so many plants that I've seen at JLB, but where did they get the tall cacti? I haven't seen those that would grow in this climate/zone. Thanks!
I would look at it as a great opportunity to start something new - from scratch - together. The bigger challenge IMHO is to find the right buyers. I am grateful to find more of a blank slate. But I am a gardener at heart….
Welcome 🎉 We were at Bellingrath in early spring and it just wasn't as well kept as it usually is. To be fair, there was a late freeze which may have impacted a few things. I would be curious to know what you think about that bamboo stand next to the river. It seems to be damaging the walkways, so you can imagine what some of us in the area who have neighbors with the stuff are dealing with, especially since we don't have a team of gardeners to help us deal with it. Welcome again.
Jeremy you mentioned hairy vetch, we have it here wild. Those tiny purple flowers are so gorgeous. Did it help the nitrogen levels? Did you write a paper because I’d love to read it. I just love it. I wish more people would check it out.
Ugh I can't imagine 🤯 I first started my gardens flower beds pathways on a empty lot 14yrs ago. We want to move from the beach to the country I want to take my country style gardens & wildlife habitat my plants hard scape with us. How do I do this 😢 good video
This was kind of heartbreaking to watch. He’s clearly gutted about leaving this place. I think we’re all taught to put career first without questioning what actually makes us happy and this garden, this home, this neighborhood is what makes him happy. I know he said he feels a responsibility to use his horticultural knowledge for good, but maybe there is another way to do that without leaving this place. A prestigious job isn’t more important than inner peace. Not criticizing his decision, just hope he considers my words before selling the house. Best of luck to him and hope he’s happy with whatever he does.
I know this is emotional and I feel for you. But at the beginning when you were saying you are not defined by your garden, I though of your friend Linda Vater. She always says, dont let your garden boss you around. Ha ha. Its hard when you love plants. But its true.
His passion for horticulture is so evident that this was a fun video. Two guys hanging out, chatting about the things they love, is an absolute win!
Congratulations to Jeremy and Meghan on their new adventure! My hope is the new owners of their fabulous gardens and home will really appreciate what a gem they have!
Good luck to you both and thank you for letting us into your garden! It’s truly been a pleasure!
How bittersweet. But exciting for him. Hope he finds a suitable buyer. And please show his new garden.

Absolutely loved these conversations about meaning, neighbors, memories… all the things that make life and a garden. Thank you so much for this video!

Great video spoken from the heart. What a legacy to leave as they move on to new opportunities. Beautiful garden!
Thanks Jeremy for sharing the building and establishing of your beautiful garden 💚 Thank you to Jim for filming the series, it was really interesting and unique! Best of luck & an exciting future awaits 🪨🍀🪷
Congratulations, Jeremy and Megan! This is a phenomenal step in your journey - best thoughts for you both as you transition to Alabama!
What a great subject matter....that your current garden is not necessarily your forever garden.
Wow I can only imagine what the next garden will look like :) Congratulations on the exciting job opportunity and next chapter. Life is an adventure!
Yes we very much appreciate the content that Jim and Steph bring and this is certainly one of them !
So exciting for you!

Congratulations! We love to visit Bellingrath Gardens every time we go down on vacation to Orange Beach.
I remind myself that life takes its turns, so while I love my garden…I could love another garden as well. Congrats to Jeremy for the new position!
I loved this video. I’m happy for Jeremy and Megan. I also think the video was good for those of us who are contemplating moving and leaving a Garden that we love.
Congratulations on your new assignment. Leaving your garden has got to be hard. Looking forward to seeing your accomplishments in your new endeavors.
Congratulations and look at how nice you are leaving this home for the next person. ♥️

I just went to Mobile in May. Awesome gardens at Bellingrath!
Bellingrath Gardens are beautiful. The Japanese garden and the grotto (Rockery?!) area are my favorites!
What a beautiful garden!!
What an amazing sharing! Thanks so much for sharing. Enjoy your new home. 😊
I have a pink granite river stone that I took from my old garden and put in my present one, and if I ever move, I'll take my special rock again.
Congratulations Jeremy. I know that you will accomplish great things.

Have really enjoyed all of the videos on the Bristal Briar.
It is a botanical garden actually but so wonderful to have this opportunity! Best wishes. 🎉
Juniper level is on my todo list. But what an impossible schedule
Congratulations on the new position. But I’m sure the new adventure will be all you imagine and more. Thanks Jim for sharing with us.
OMG, you can hear the emotions in his voice. Change is good.
I loved hearing the story of his garden. Thank you for sharing it.

Awesome decoration

"Your videos are not only beautiful in terms of content but also in how you edit them ! keep sharing the awesome videos."🌹🌹🌹"
Congratulations on your new role and next chapter of your life and career!
I wish I was able to buy his beautiful space! Hope a garden lover purchases it!
I like marking time in my yard like a mini Stonehenge, sounds like you got a nice vacation home. I don't know if I could give all that up 😢.
Another great video - and best of luck to Jeremy and Meghan in their next journey. I recognize so many plants that I've seen at JLB, but where did they get the tall cacti? I haven't seen those that would grow in this climate/zone. Thanks!

Gorgeous place!

The garden is where I live , I just sleep in the house
Good neighbors I’ll never know what that’s like ick
We’re all gonna miss the BB, but it’ll be fun to see what their next project is!
What is the succulent at 12 30. Outstanding
What is the dollar blue cactus thing
Is it possible to still tour this garden? If so, until what date?

You must put into the agreement that you want to take plants and make it a condition of sale.
Is that an Agave between you two at minute 14:01? Is it cold hardy enough for zone 7b-8a?
Take a look at Plant Delights - they have a great selection of Agave and several that work in 8a.
🙋
I would put in my contract that I could take starts of my favorite plants
I know this is emotional and I feel for you. But at the beginning when you were saying you are not defined by your garden, I though of your friend Linda Vater. She always says, dont let your garden boss you around. Ha ha. Its hard when you love plants. But its true.
Single ladies: when you’re perusing or swiping or clicking, look for men like these two. 🌸🐝
So where is the bristol briar
How much?
Tree shadows
My husband is from Ohio and would like grass removed to prepare a cornfield. Sweet corn is fabulous, but HOA regulations get in the way.
I am in a hoa , am allowed to plant in the back. Is yours the same ?
@@valchris11 Our backyard is steeply sloped enough to be dangerous.
Jeremy and Megan will be super missed.
Don’t see as a loss rather as an opportunity to build something new elsewhere.
exactly not a fan of the rock pile garden so maybe some new ideas will come about.
Looks like he’s got magave and cactus how
He’s got a nature park
Gas is a no
