I've got one with 6640 stickers but after checking serial number, it's actually a 7740! Had the same problems with fuel primer, I'll try the trick you did with the plate and 12 volt pump...good idea. My tractor has been bullet proof as well, its been very reliable and does a lit bit of everything on our farm. Best AC of anything we have and we need it in Alabama heat and humidity. Great video, THANKS from Alabama!
We had a 7740 doings 127hp at the p.t.o super tractor the sad was we last it n a farm fire an last year we got a 7840 turbo doing 145hp so far been a good job
Drive one through the Busch in Canada. Snowblower work and winter mostly. 6640SL 1992. Have same gauge package. Not a new holland yet lol. Nobody has ever used the double clutch button on the directional. seat is identical. Radio rocks! Cheers from Kanukville!
😆 no I'm just a big kid who grew up on a farm and loved anything blue oval. One day I would like a TW just to park and drive around in circles 😊 for now I just collect models. What state are you guys in?
+Dan Whiteford. I was thinking I should get that seat covered as I was editing last night. We always get as many remotes as we can on our tractors, when we're pushing snow we still don't have enough to plug in everything.
+Dan Fike. That's getting to be a lot of hours but I know of a TS100 with the same transmission as the sle and it has 16,000 hours on it with original engine and transmission still going
Our 7740 had 15000 hours on it when we sold it, was still a great tractor. They just keep on going and it was one of the reasons weve stuck with the brand.
+Howard Younger. That's when you know it must be a pretty good video if it's over and you didn't even realize it's been 20 mins. Lol Glad you enjoyed it!
They say all them new hollands fords like 6640 all the way to 8560 you can open the fuel pump right up and the tractors are built heavy enough to take the extra power we run a couple tms and we open the fuel pump up on and one of them is a tm 130 putting 165 hp at the pto
Thats nothing Local contractor had TM125 set up to over 200 horse no porblems was a literal pocket rocket pulled better than his 130, 2 x 140's,150,155,MXM155 and MXM 190 and a sic cylinder. Problems with 66 and 77 is the only have a wee 4 cylinder the 7840 was the start of teh 6 cylinder and the 83 sand 82 were the 7.5 litre Genesis known in the UK as powerstar . The early white roofs had to be modified if i remember they had a small fault with gearbox i think which was cured on Blue roof 40 series . i would say a 6640 is just a dowrated 7740 probably
kind of aha but im used to driving the 2016 544 loader with all the technology that is like a time machine compared to some of the other equipment Ive used around here lol
+Sean McGeeney. Well we don't use tractors for everything and this one just typically runs a straw blower once a week, we put a lot of hours on excavators around here.
was the fuel bleeding off at a certain level? i have a 8340 that bleeds off after you get down to half a tank, I'm guessing it's that same issue you showed once fuel gets below gravity level of the hand pump
+idoutdoors. I think that may have been what was happening, putting that fuel pump on and caping off the hand pump cured all the problems we were having and no more pumping when changing filters just turn the key on
We have a 5610S , and I was looking at the valve cover on it and I did some research. It has the motor cover stamp of the 6610 motor. So my question is how do I tell the difference in the 5610s motor and the 6610S motor. The factory may have put the wrong description cover on the valve cover or perhaps they put the wrong motor in it? What are your thoughts?
According to tractor data. 5610 has 4.4 and 6610 is a 5.0 . Our 5610 has the 5.0 plate description on the valve cover. I was wondering if there was some casting stamps on the block that would indicate better from factory. Thanks for any help. I know this tractor has always seemed very strong for its size. We bought it brand new, so nobody else has tinkered with it.
+Georgia Swampman. That's kind of strange that a 5610 would have a 6610 engine in it. I'm not sure of any casting marks or if you can tell any difference in the engines by looking at them. Maybe have it run on a Dyno and see if the horse power is similar to the 6610. There should be a tag with and engine number on it somewhere, have your dealer run the engine numbers and see what it says. I know on the older tractors the tag was on the underside of the hood where the battery is.
This tractor was toward the end of production for this model. It is straight New Holland, no indication of Ford anywhere on it. There is a sticker under the hood, I will check it out also and see if it matches to the valve cover plate. Our Dealer, well unfortunately they are a joke. They promote more Mahindra than NH now.
Hey Dennis, great review. I have a Ford 6640 SL and love it. It’s been in my family sense new in 94. Oh yeah, great A/C too. Had some electrical issues with gauge cluster and like you the fuel primer. I started looking at adding a turbo, looks very doable, looks like the turbo uses the same manifold. Biggest expense will be turbo and muffler and a few oil lines and intake tube from the original air filter, pretty easy. About $1,000 or so. My question is, do I have to turn up the fuel pump? Or if I don’t will I hurt anything. Is turning up the pump just a simple adjustment? Thanks for all the videos I enjoy them very much.
There isn’t much point in doing it unless you turn up the fuel. More air needs more fuel. You kinda need to have it in a Dyno when you start messing with the fuel though run it up to about 98 pto hp.
sorry for commenting on this video alot but I am a young irish farmer and I love your videos you give great advice . I wanted your advice I'm thinking of bye a second hand 6640 would u recommend it thanks
I think I am right in saying that the engine blocks on these tractors and back to the 4000/5000 era, were all cut on a machine originally used to make blocks for the Ford Edsel car !
I have a ford 7740 but the radio doesn’t work It’s a fuse but I can’t figure out what fuse it is and help would be appritiated they are a great tractor and are a nice loader tractor
Same happened to me with my 7840. There was 2 fuses that needed changed for the radio to work one was the radio fuse and the other was something like cab appliances. I don't have my manual on me right now but can upload picture tomorrow.
+DLK HAY. Well I'm pretty sure that is the same tractor as my 6030 just with more horse power and if it is that is my current favorite tractor that I own, very comfortable, good visibility, big roomy cab, very reliable, and a strong 6 cylinder engine. Most people don't know this but they have almost the exact same head on the engine as a 5.9 Cummings. Cummings was involved in Designing the engine.
I’ve got a 5640 new Holland I would like to add a turbo to would you mind telling me what dealership did your tractor I would like to talk to them about mine. Thanks
DLH Farms thanks what needs to happen do I need to change the injectors or just turn my pump up. I plan on doing it myself I just need someone to turn the fuel pump up on it
+Jared Cook. No injector change needed if it has the same engine that's in the 6640 and I think it does. Just put the turbo then turn up the pump, but you need to have the tractor hooked to a PTO Dyno so you can keep an eye on temps and not turn it up to much. We have our 6640 set at 98 PTO horse power and it seems to like it there, no heating unless the radiator gets plugged. Very little smoke too.

Thanks for showing us your 66-7740 tractor!

Good tractors
Nice interesting story, enjoyed hearing you tell it. Thanks from Ireland.
+FORDtw35. Thanks! I take it you have a TW35? We have one of those sitting around here somewhere! Lol
😆 no I'm just a big kid who grew up on a farm and loved anything blue oval. One day I would like a TW just to park and drive around in circles 😊 for now I just collect models. What state are you guys in?
+FORDtw35. Oh ok that's great. I grew up on a farm too and it's hard to let farming go, I understand. We are in Virginia.
Good review. We had the fabric on the seat recovered and it proved really effective. Yours is a bit unusual in having 4 remotes.
+Dan Whiteford. I was thinking I should get that seat covered as I was editing last night. We always get as many remotes as we can on our tractors, when we're pushing snow we still don't have enough to plug in everything.
Nice tractor and looks still sort of new, it was great shape models, love them
+Jan Kotze. It is a good looking tractor it has 1500 hours on it and it's 21 years old, we have tried to take care of it but it sets outside a lot.
Jan Kotze is that tractor in your picture yours check myn
It's great you guys found that tractor new was looking at a used one but it was sle and had 55xx hr. on it was a little ruff looking
+Dan Fike. That's getting to be a lot of hours but I know of a TS100 with the same transmission as the sle and it has 16,000 hours on it with original engine and transmission still going

DLH Farms That's a shame, they are very good tractors. We can only hope these newer ones have the same reliability.
that was interesting great tractor.i watched the whole thing and didnt even notice it was that long till you said it was long.
+Howard Younger. That's when you know it must be a pretty good video if it's over and you didn't even realize it's been 20 mins. Lol Glad you enjoyed it!
yes that is exactly what i was saying.
Love these engines. They have peak torque at about 1400 rpm ,
+Kristina Carr. Good ol tractors
Thanks for the review. I appreciate it. Have a great day.
+Steve Frye. No problem Steve!
Thanks for the walk-around. Nice machine.
+Chuck Stevenson. Thanks Chuck!
That tractor would be worth a fortune this side of the pond.
They were a really stout series
They say all them new hollands fords like 6640 all the way to 8560 you can open the fuel pump right up and the tractors are built heavy enough to take the extra power we run a couple tms and we open the fuel pump up on and one of them is a tm 130 putting 165 hp at the pto
Yeah they are definitely tuff machine's.

Ive got the 7740 sle you would love ! I have a bucket attachment on the front to push dirt Its a 97 with 100 hours

Im trying to start a coral farm :D
+Salt Empire Corals. That's interesting.
1500 hours, I don't even know how a tractor isn't used more, like I thought 1700 in 6 years is very little on our T5050
+Sean McGeeney. Well we don't use tractors for everything and this one just typically runs a straw blower once a week, we put a lot of hours on excavators around here.
DLH Farms Oh right I understand, you have very nice equipment
+Sean McGeeney it's kind of funny, every cab tractor we own except for the t5 has about 1500hrs on it right now. Lol
DLH Farms That's a strange enough coincidence haha, they're lovely tractors
+Sean McGeeney. It is kinda strange, very fortunate to have such a good fleet of machines!
I used to drive a 7740 we had 119hp on the PTO
+Graham Roberts. Dang I bet that thing smoked a lot.
smoke is wasted fuel, it is charged, I guess it does not smoke?
nice video can do a video on the 7.3 pickup truck +dlh farms
+Rick Garrett. Sure I will do that sometime!
i buy a 7740 in the summer. i always want one, and now i have one.
Awesome! Good solid tractors
@@DLHFarms yes it is.
Nice tractor. I love the 40 series. I Have a 5640 and my brother has a 6640. Want to sell yours? Haha!
+Chris Deyton. Lol, no not yet anyways. I like the 40 series also, I grew up running one.
Now I need to find me one!!
I hope you can but most of them are worn out by now I’d say.
One thing I noticed about the 40 series tractors are hydraulic pumps are loud, almost like they are cavitating. Any idea why?
Never noticed this one being loud but I think it has the closed center hydraulics.

I would like to buy it. Probably still worth 35 to 40,000.
+Bristol Bishop Bishop. Yeah, I'm sure it is but I guess we better hang on to it, you don't see many 40 series with this low of hours
DLH Farms good for baling
+Bristol Bishop Bishop. Good for anything really!
nice tractor 👍
+K3vin Bracken. Thanks Kevin!
great review ! are these tractors build in England ?

They live a long time but not forever.

No Ford was bought by Fiat which owns New Holland.
how much did u bye this tractor for
+K3vin Bracken. We paid 40,000 it's a 1996 we bought new it from the dealer in 2003.
What type of hydraulic /transmission oil do u use in this tractor.
New Holland 134a
Would you ever sell it? I'm not to far from you and I'm looking for a cab tractor
