      @@TheStaianoClinic I thought you were doing a great job. However I have a deeper question. I have lupus SLE well 8 months ago had a bypass from my iliac artery to my aortic artery. Dissolvable stitches were used to close or attach the facia. However my wound refuses to close. Now what do I do? I do not feel comfortable going back to the surgeon because I went to him for a stitch that was found by the home care nurse. The surgeon took out that stitch that was a 3 o'clock tunnel 2 centimeters deep and it immediately healed the tunnel however I still have stitch in the bottom of the wound which is 2.5 centimeters deep.
      Please let me be clear that I do not believe that my surgeon did anything wrong aside from not exploring the base of the wound when he took out the other stitch because the bottom of the wound isnt closing. I have just lost trust in his ability to pay attention to all aspects of my care where the stitches are concerned. He even brie open the wound to try to get so close he had to have seen those suspension stitches and he should have noted that they should not have been there still after 4 months. Should I go and see a plastic surgeon

      @@shesharpshoots Hi there, I am sorry to hear about your problems. It sounds like you have had a pretty serious operation and I would be inclined to advise that you go back to your surgeon. They will be best placed to know what sutures they have used and what layers the sutures are holding together. It can be really annoying when sutures don't dissolve after all of this time but they may be holding together important structures which may be why you have such long-term dissolving sutures.
      Your surgeon's priority will be on achieving the result with your blood vessels and so it may seem like your wound is second place, but I am sure they will still be keen to get it healed up for you. Your surgeon may also enrol the help of a wound care nurse which could help but I would say that you should stay with your surgeon for now unless they suggest getting a plastic surgery opinion.
      Good luck!

      Hi FuFu, you can probably tell from my video that this is a difficult question to answer because there are lots of different types of dissolvable stitches. It is probably best to talk to your surgeon but dissolvable stitches on the face tend to be the more quickly dissolving variety, so I would guess a matter of weeks. JJ Staiano

    White string coming from dissolvable stitches why??

    • @TheStaianoClinic
      @TheStaianoClinic  5 років тому +1

      Sital Desai hi Sita, this is likely to be the stitch itself. Sometimes the knot dissolved and then the dissolvable stitch can ‘spit out’ and it looks like white string. As long as the wound is intact, then I would not be concerned, but if you are worried, you should contact your surgeon. JJ Staiano

    • @TheStaianoClinic
      @TheStaianoClinic  5 років тому

      Sital Desai hi Sital, if you are our patient, please give us a ring and we will see you to reassure you, but in general terms, it doesn’t sound like anything to worry about in itself.
      The stitches can take a couple of months to dissolve and in that time, your body can say ‘I’ve had enough of this’ and start to spit them out, especially if they are close to the skin (which they usually are). This is the white string that you are describing.
      The main things we would be worried about are:
      1. Is the integrity of the wound alright, ie is the wound healed well?
      2. Is there any sign of infection, ie is there any redness, pain or swelling around the wound?
      If both of these are OK, I wouldn’t be too concerned about the white string, although I can see that you are worried about it, so go back and see your surgeon for reassurance (or come back to us if we did your surgery).

      That is quite a specific procedure that would have been performed by an ophthalmic surgeon, so you should check with them about this. I do not have experience of this sort of surgery.

    Hi doctor one more thing I did a tendon repair surgery (last on in September) on my left thumb. After the surgery and maybe around two months passes by then i could start see a blue coloured thread sticking out of my thumb. There is also a lump we're the thread is peeping out. So what should i do?? It also hurt when ever someone touches it.
