One point to mention is pwm fans can go at lower speeds. DC fans can be hit or miss, i.e., sometimes it will spin at a low rev and next time it might not spin at all.
Thank you for making a clear video! I had MSI Z490 Tomahawk board that featured fine control of DC mode, from 0v all the way to 12v, and the only reason why I used my DeepCool CPU fan in DC mode instead of PWM was because of that fine control. Like it was mostly on 0 rpm while I was using my PC for standard web browsing etc. PWM was at around 20% and I found it unnecessary, just pulling dust while the CPU was under normal temps. Then I sold that mobo and bought this Asus H410M. Couldn't believe it forced DC mode to around 70%, was very dissapointed, and now, I'm looking into getting an ASRock Z490 ITX/TB3, but just have to find out how robust ASRock fan control is. If there is a way for the CPU fan to be in 0RPM while being in PWM, I'd gladly use it that way, but I can't find any info on web. If you have more data on this I would really appreciate it!

I was thinking how could Asus forget such a big feature, even their higher end boards don't support it, well, they kind of do, as long as it isn't CPU fan. Just disappointed, and now in my hunt for a miniITX my choice is basically just ASRock Z490 ITX/TB3 and that's it.

I want to tell you I have 6 fans in case but one rear with pwm cause it is 4pin and the others have 4pins too but I take them to a Commander controller (corsair) and it is connected to USB port, the cpu cooler is AIO so the pump is connected to cpu_header but it has only 3 pin :/ So my question is, How can I change the fans speed to silently or as your video shows in "standard mode" ? Because when I open a game what is stressing a little the cpu maybe or the system, it going on loud not on full speed (I guess) but you can hear it from far... But anyway what I do not understand here exactly is my fans with 4pins connected to a controller-> controller to USB (with psu sata cable I think)-> and naturally the cpu_header with the pump with 3 pin.. Is there any option to change the speed?
Hi KrisiHD, I am not familiar with commander pro from corsair, as for pump it will be best to run at consistant speed since you are using your motherboard cpu_fan header, use the UFEI to control it or to use your motherboard application to control it. As for the rest of the fan speed that is under commander pro. you need to control via the commander pro application.
@@KleoYan Thanks for responding, yes I already got the software today and it is working fine, but when closed or restart the application not running it is the same, in bios settings I have some options like DC curves in Tuf motherboard, but I am afraid a bit because don't know how it work with the pump maybe more heat to processor or something just using that software 😁 or without program maybe the fan speed like in software default or called "balanced" 1500 rpm, i have 4000D airflow case so I can see it and hear it going faster and louder. Hi, I cant find the "fan configuration" in bios to change to DC from PWM ive been looking were you have yours but it is not there, I run an old Asrock Fatal1ty z170 ITX, dont know if the board has to do with the problem... My case fans only have 3 pin, and I use Noctua NF-P14 fans in my case

As I do not have this motherboard, i am not able to view the bios intereface. but after looking at the manual download.asrock.com/Manual/Fatal1ty%20Z170%20Gaming-ITXac.pdf page 79. go to HWmonitor and scroll down. you should be able to do the settings, unless there are no sub menu to select between Auto, PWM and DC. this I can't help you with.

Hello sniperworks, welcome to my channel. Nope both 3Pin and 4Pin pwm are 12volts. The other connector if there are argb on the fan itself.. there is another 3pin connector and that's 5volts 3pin ARGB
I plan on running 5 x Delta ~12-20w 120x38mm fans at around half speed or so, but with the option to control their speed. Normally I'd be looking at just hooking them up to a conventional fan controller with knobs to adjust voltage, which is the type of thing I've been doing for many years. But now it seems there are many of these Delta models that come in PWM form. Is it true that the PWM style will be significantly more power efficient and also generate less heat in the process of running at lower speed? Even if so, my problem is I don't see any fan controller products for PWM that provide direct physical control of fans via knobs or switches on the device itself. Instead, either they act as a molex/SATA powered PWM fan hub with a single control connection to a motherboard header, to control them all at once, or they are made to be controlled by proprietary software that only works once the OS is finished loading up its startup programs. I also doubt that any of these PWM hubs/controller devices can handle the power of 5 of these fans, and they usually don't specify the capacity. What I'd really like is a PWM controller with individual control knobs and a separate high power channel for each fan, but I see no such products like these.
Hi Max0r847, welcome to my channel are you talking about this 80mm and 60mm fans which are from Delta that have the ampere as 1.95a and 1.65a, those normally are plug directly to the old days PSU (Mustard cables) via the 4pin Molex. There are none in the market that has those kind of hub or controller, the ampere is too big. 1 of those fans if you are to plug directly to the motherboard, you will fry the board fan connectors in no time. I have no solution for you either, all the best in your build.
Can you turn a non PWM fan on and off with python code? Based on CPU temp? I realize you can not control the speed (or maybe you can) but I have a lot of non PWN fans I don't want to throw away.

I know that these questions can be exhausting and I've done alot of research on this matter already and I'm pretty certain I have grasped what I'll do but I have 7 corsair fans 2 are 140mm sp140 elite and the others are sp120 elite and I have 5 motherboard fan headers I plan to hook each one to a header and then use 2 fan header splitters to obviously fit two fans on one header (I won't exceed more than 2 fans on one header as I know unless it's a high amp header I'd be in trouble) my question is this I have the rgb hub for 6 fans but I wanted to see if my 7th could be powered by the mobo (even if it's just to get the basic rainbow and not fully customizable) is that possible or will I have to go without one being lit. (I don't mind if that's the case because I defined know I'm not spending anymore money to have just 1 more fan lit)
Hi House Baelish, welcome to my channel, before you start daisy chaining, make sure you are clear of what each fans drawn. there are two section you need to take note. 1st the fan load 2nd the argb load, motherboard itself have fan and argb which does have limitation. as what I know most Asus boards have a fan load of only 1A. so do not daisy chain fans which will overload your motherboard fan headers. Same apply to ARGB. you wouldn't want to over load too. As for hub, most of them comes with sata powered cables to the hub but you still need to know what type of load it has. if it's cater for 5 fans and 5 argbs, do not do more than 5 and try not to daisy chain over the 5 fans. else your hub will melt or caps/resistors will explode.
@@KleoYan thank you my friend yeah each header handles 1 amp and the fans draw 0.30amp so it can handle 2 fans per header as for rgb I'll be using the lightning node core and run usb 2.0 but my issue is the lighting node core only supports 6 fans and I have 7 so I can power my 7th fan but don't have a way to plug rgb in aside from plugging the 3 pin argb plug from the single fan into the mobo but I've heard this won't work idk =/ I don't want to buy a new hub
@@housebaelishgaming I see. if that's the case, yes, plus all 6 fans to your node and 1 to your motherboard. I would say the rear fan to your motherboard argb.

Hi Ak47, welcome to my channel, if you are using software to configure as in Fan Control, you will need to have it running in the background and not turning it off. That is part of the reason, why I have set my fan's PWM in UEFI/Bios.

I have a PWM fan at "System Fan Speed Control" is normal and System Fan Control mode is on Auto. It gets hot when I play and runs at 700RPM. Can I put my fan speed on full and put my control mode on PWM?. It runs at 1470RPM and it's not hot anymore. Is it safe to run on full speed?
Hello Giurea Alexandru Eduard, welcome to my channel. Pardon me, is the System Fan Speed Control a physical device or is listed in your UEFI? Mind to let me know which motherboard you are using? In general, you fan can run as full speed with no issues. It will run till it’s lifecycle ends.
@@KleoYan hey!!! I have a gigabyte b450m ds3h, I changed my fan from DC to PWM but I haven't enabled the PWM yet! So my PC was overheating on normal speed and auto! So I can only set my fan on Normal (which is overheating when playing, silent which is worser or full speed which)
@@alexrra btw your case is only with one fan? You should try to get a decent case and some decent case fans. One fan itself will not help to pull hot air out of the case.
Hello Lobsang White, welcome to my channel and yes, so long you've set to DC mode you are using voltage to control the fan RPM which is consistent. but your motherboard is doing more work and your 4pin PWM fan might not last that long. due to the voltage resistance.

@@lobsangwhite the WHM-802 12V PWM 4-Wire, I would advise you to connect the red and black to a sata or molex outlet from the PSU, do not plug the red and black cable to your motherboard, it has it's own module. it should be fine if you do that. If you do not know how to crimp which + and - current to draw 12volts, I would advise you stop there and not proceed as back current will damage your PSU and if did it wrongly, it will damage your motherboard fan header too (if you intend to do that that is) some info on how to draw 12volts form a 4pin molex from the PSU. i.stack.imgur.com/IA43b.jpg , again a disclaimer, I would be responsible if you damage your PSU or your PC components. PSU in modern days are all with black as compared in the past where PSU cables comes with mustard colors which is easily identify, please practice with safety precaution and do this at your own risk.

in mu bios PWM is enabled, i hava a 3 pin cooler, and when i switch to DC mode fan cooler is quiter than it was when PWM was enabled, withc one sholud i use
@@rockd5272 all fans does make noise, so long it's moving parts with rotar. but there are a difference between quailty with performance fans, those can be quiet at high rpm.

@@EVERYthing-dx3tm hmm after looking at the specs of your liquid AIO. The fans are of own 4pin. It should work fine. Have you tired plugging to another fan header? If that still doesn’t work. I would advice you if your liquid AIO is still under warranty, file anRMA to darkflash, to replace those fans.

I would set it to 70 or 80 or 90 fix. this will reduce your pump from fluctuating up and down, which will damage the pump in no time.

HI Craig DJ BULLER, welcome to my channel. You can only set to DC mode and depending on your board if it allows you to have a custom fan curve on your 3pin connector fans. Mine only allows me to set at a fix voltage in DC mode ... example low temperature below 40°C to run fix at 7volts , mid temperature below 75°C to run at fix 9volts and at high temperature above 75°C to fun fix at 12volts

I know that these questions can be exhausting and I've done alot of research on this matter already and I'm pretty certain I have grasped what I'll do but I have 7 corsair fans 2 are 140mm sp140 elite and the others are sp120 elite and I have 5 motherboard fan headers I plan to hook each one to a header and then use 2 fan header splitters to obviously fit two fans on one header (I won't exceed more than 2 fans on one header as I know unless it's a high amp header I'd be in trouble) my question is this I have the rgb hub for 6 fans but I wanted to see if my 7th could be powered by the mobo (even if it's just to get the basic rainbow and not fully customizable) is that possible or will I have to go without one being lit. (I don't mind if that's the case because I defined know I'm not spending anymore money to have just 1 more fan lit)
Hi House Baelish, welcome to my channel, before you start daisy chaining, make sure you are clear of what each fans drawn. there are two section you need to take note. 1st the fan load 2nd the argb load, motherboard itself have fan and argb which does have limitation. as what I know most Asus boards have a fan load of only 1A. so do not daisy chain fans which will overload your motherboard fan headers. Same apply to ARGB. you wouldn't want to over load too.
As for hub, most of them comes with sata powered cables to the hub but you still need to know what type of load it has. if it's cater for 5 fans and 5 argbs, do not do more than 5 and try not to daisy chain over the 5 fans. else your hub will melt or caps/resistors will explode.
@@KleoYan thank you my friend yeah each header handles 1 amp and the fans draw 0.30amp so it can handle 2 fans per header as for rgb I'll be using the lightning node core and run usb 2.0 but my issue is the lighting node core only supports 6 fans and I have 7 so I can power my 7th fan but don't have a way to plug rgb in aside from plugging the 3 pin argb plug from the single fan into the mobo but I've heard this won't work idk =/ I don't want to buy a new hub
@@housebaelishgaming I see. if that's the case, yes, plus all 6 fans to your node and 1 to your motherboard. I would say the rear fan to your motherboard argb.

Hi Ak47, welcome to my channel, if you are using software to configure as in Fan Control, you will need to have it running in the background and not turning it off. That is part of the reason, why I have set my fan's PWM in UEFI/Bios.

Hi Mr. President, welcome back, if your fan connector is 3pin, I would use DC Mode, as for 4pin fan connector, I will use PWM Mode.

I have a PWM fan at "System Fan Speed Control" is normal and System Fan Control mode is on Auto. It gets hot when I play and runs at 700RPM. Can I put my fan speed on full and put my control mode on PWM?. It runs at 1470RPM and it's not hot anymore. Is it safe to run on full speed?
Hello Giurea Alexandru Eduard, welcome to my channel. Pardon me, is the System Fan Speed Control a physical device or is listed in your UEFI? Mind to let me know which motherboard you are using? In general, you fan can run as full speed with no issues. It will run till it’s lifecycle ends.
@@KleoYan hey!!! I have a gigabyte b450m ds3h, I changed my fan from DC to PWM but I haven't enabled the PWM yet! So my PC was overheating on normal speed and auto! So I can only set my fan on Normal (which is overheating when playing, silent which is worser or full speed which)

@@alexrra btw your case is only with one fan? You should try to get a decent case and some decent case fans. One fan itself will not help to pull hot air out of the case.

Hello Lobsang White, welcome to my channel and yes, so long you've set to DC mode you are using voltage to control the fan RPM which is consistent. but your motherboard is doing more work and your 4pin PWM fan might not last that long. due to the voltage resistance.

With the lack of potentiometer I suppouse the thermistor do the work in regards the temperature.
@@lobsangwhite the WHM-802 12V PWM 4-Wire, I would advise you to connect the red and black to a sata or molex outlet from the PSU, do not plug the red and black cable to your motherboard, it has it's own module. it should be fine if you do that. If you do not know how to crimp which + and - current to draw 12volts, I would advise you stop there and not proceed as back current will damage your PSU and if did it wrongly, it will damage your motherboard fan header too (if you intend to do that that is)
some info on how to draw 12volts form a 4pin molex from the PSU. i.stack.imgur.com/IA43b.jpg , again a disclaimer, I would be responsible if you damage your PSU or your PC components. PSU in modern days are all with black as compared in the past where PSU cables comes with mustard colors which is easily identify, please practice with safety precaution and do this at your own risk.
@@lobsangwhite oops pardon me, and as for your question, if you have done up properly with the VHM-802 12V PWM 4-Wire devices, yes your fan will react base on the temperature reading from it.

in mu bios PWM is enabled, i hava a 3 pin cooler, and when i switch to DC mode fan cooler is quiter than it was when PWM was enabled, withc one sholud i use

@@rockd5272 all fans does make noise, so long it's moving parts with rotar. but there are a difference between quailty with performance fans, those can be quiet at high rpm.

@@EVERYthing-dx3tm hmm after looking at the specs of your liquid AIO. The fans are of own 4pin. It should work fine. Have you tired plugging to another fan header? If that still doesn’t work. I would advice you if your liquid AIO is still under warranty, file anRMA to darkflash, to replace those fans.

@@zawiszaczarny1749 hi ya, welcome to my channel.. oo EK AIO nice.. you can do PWM settings no issues but I would advance to set it to run consistantly and not in fluctuate mode on the pump. I would set it to 70 or 80 or 90 fix. this will reduce your pump from fluctuating up and down, which will damage the pump in no time.

Basically slowest at idle , the gradually increase voltage when the sysyem temperature increases ?? HI Craig DJ BULLER, welcome to my channel. You can only set to DC mode and depending on your board if it allows you to have a custom fan curve on your 3pin connector fans.
Mine only allows me to set at a fix voltage in DC mode ... example low temperature below 40°C to run fix at 7volts , mid temperature below 75°C to run at fix 9volts and at high temperature above 75°C to fun fix at 12volts
