Absolutely love these vids, also another thing that makes MCR that make them sound more dark than other alternative bands is their use of the harmonic minor scale, is in nearly every song I've played from them in one way or another, could be a pretty interesting video for those pursuing that kind of sound
I'm pretty sure Dead! Is also swung. The bridge in Dead! Has some brass in the background and it sounds full on jazz. I think it's meant to emphasize that death is a cocky bitch that's mocking the patient for dying.
The big difference is in "meter" or in other words: feeling! Swung rhythms tend to have a "compound" time feel (more akin to a 12/8 time signature) whereas a dotted quaver and semi quaver would still feel "simple" (like a 4/4 time signature with subdivisions)
HoW without the swung sounds like a conventional punk rift

Dead on correct! I talk about harmonic minor in my video on "how i disappear"!
I played guitar in Jazz Band all throughout high school, and now I find myself unconsciously writing it into my music. Lol
you can take the kid out of jazz band but you cant take the jazz band out of the kid

@@mattygregmusic If I ever get a band going, I'll keep this in mind. I hope it wouldn't be considered plagiarizing MCR tho
@@sylph8005 you'd have to dress it up to make it your own for sure!
Is there a difference between a swung rhythm and dotted quaver+semi quaver?
