  • Hey!
Welcome to tutorial #47, this time about making a Xylophone Pluck & turning it into cool ambient melodic bits :)
The sound itself is fairly simple, and is made with an FMed wavetable to create the initial Xylophone click, and then using a LP filter to turn it into a very subtle triangle wave for the decay.
Then in addition to that you can add various noise oscillators to the initial click like wooden objects to simulate the attack a xylophone might have & some room/hall reverb to make it sound like it was recorded in a real space.
After that, once you have the main sound, try setting a reverb + delay on a high feedback with different left & right timings and play short arpeggiated chords. If you play the arpeggios yourself, the tiny rhythmic mistakes you make will make the delayed signal way more interesting!
Then you can save these and label them as the chords you played and use them as tiny melodic fills, or drown them in reverb/stretch them to get a really cool ambient sound :)
    P. S - sorry for not uploading last week, I just had a really tough week and couldn't make a video, but here it is now!
If there's a subject/sound you want me to cover in one of my future tutorials let me know in the comments below ;)
    Enjoy!

I could try, if I'll get close enough to recreating it I'll make a video on it. Thanks for the suggestion!

Could you do this in serum pls :)

I made this one specifically in Massive X because the way the filters or the wavetables work here made this sound way more realistic than my attempt to make it in Serum.
I will try and make a tutorial in Serum on wooden instruments in general instead (so maybe a kalimba or a marimba, we'll see!), thanks for the suggestion 😅
