For your info, it was the power steering pump which the hose rubbed against and the orientation of the hose when installed may have needed adjusting to allow for expansion. However, if the engine had not boiled over completely and was allowed to cool, you could have installed a liquid head gasket repair into the cooling system and that would have repaired the area when the cylinder head gasket was damaged. Beluve you me, you ciuld have got another 40,000 miles out of the same car. No garage will tell you this as they want to whio og both heads, the plenum intake, cam belt to do the full job! Its not a fair world out there mate!!!

For future use. when you mask use the back masing technique which leaves a soft edge. paint your primer ans base coat away from the soft line. Then gradually come closer but still be about 4 inches away. Spray the clear coat. Usually 2 coats and then use fade out thinners to melt the edges of your clear edge to the old paint. Polish as normal and Bob's your Uncle andd well you know the rest. Live and learn Son!!!

I have identical car rust free 1owner immaculate..have had 7…that’s a million mile car. Had a ‘00 with 500k sold it and still see it around town to this day. What a sad way to send a 400 to the grave…gotta Always keep your eye on that temp guage. Your not allowed to cal yourself a car guy unless you pay attention enough to your temp guage to avoid something like this..ahh..dont mean to be a dick just sad to kill a perfectly good car from a miss shaped rad hose.

Hey thats funny. I had the exact same thing happen to my LS and its lower rad hose rubbing causing a leak which left me stranded. Those gates hoses are trash!

Crazy that this is common Dylan! I guess I could have done more to check the hoses, but it's sad such a reliable car was damaged this way.

@@fgardner The only thing that can kill these cars is cheap aftermarket parts! Sorry to hear what happened to yours

I knew this was going to happen as soon as I heard about those Gates hoses. I had the exact same issue you did, though thankfully I hadn't lost enough coolant to facilitate overheating. Really bad luck on that front. :(
