Some of you may recognize this video as many months ago I had posted two of them. I didn't have them up for long and took them down for a few reasons, one of which was to edit them a little. My apologies for any confusion. There aren't any more that should look familiar after this!
There is a very similar piece at the Gibbes Museum of art in Charleston, SC. I Haversian loved it since I was a child,
I love your voice it's very soothing and comforting ,so is your delivery style. and your content is captivating and educational . thankyou for producing such work in a world full of noise . Yours is the only channel where I can just forget about everything and just calm learn something really beautiful. Thank you , Love your work ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much, AL Hashmi. What a wonderful comment.
I agree completely. Very well said
The delicacy is incredible, but the ability to achieve the illusion of transparency knocks me out.
I just found your channel, and I LOVE it! I’m so glad it was recommended to me! ❤❤
Welcome to my channel, Greta! Glad you're enjoying it
I am fascinated by this sculpture! So beautiful! Thanks!
Never heard of this piece...so very beautiful. Thank you!
Lovely. Thanks for bringing this work into my view!
We had a similar sculpture in the Liverpool Walker Art Gallery, of Prosepine, I found enchanting.
One of the different ways in Italian used to describe Nuns can be translated as Virgin Sister.
The stiff moral impositions of the time would likely turn this into 'nun'.
A step on from Virgin Sister would imply a Bride, which I believe seems more fitting.
It could also mean a postulant, before she takes her vows and relinquishes her hair, they often dress as brides as in a Bride of Christ.
The final thing that came to me is it could possibly be sarcastic, for an unconsumated wife, or an unrequited love who told him she was going to be a Nun.
Yeahhh, my imagination is prone to going a little overwild...
If after seeing "The veiled Nun", "Il Cristo Velato" and "La Vergine Velata" you wanted to be totally astonished, then look for "Il Disinganno".....
Oh my gosh, that is phenomenal! Wow!
What a piece of beauty! I’d love to go to Washington and paint this bust. I’d use a brush that is not very thirsty to quickly and loosely stoke in the shadows in the veil. Sigh!
Would love to see a painted version! Wish you could do it...
@@JillPoyerdFineArt Thanks! Maybe one day! 😃
Great like always Jill, really enjoy being taken along on your view on art.
Thank you, Milo
The National Gallery is a treasure. I feel guilty for not visiting more often.
It really is...A stunning museum
thank for all your sharing
Thank you for posting this video: I am certain that I had seen this before, perhaps you had posted an earlier version? I always learn a lot from your videos, they are educational, entertaining and engaging. Loli 🎨
You're correct. I had published this one (and one of the others) but then shortly after removed them to revamp. Sorry about any confusion.
I am always amazed by marble sculptures as creation of sculpture is really challenging...One hammer strike here and there , no way back , it will be ruined , specially in subtractive method of sculpture and it costs too much on everything if so happened. Don't you think we are experiencing less and less creation of these kind of sculptures of stones these days , especially marbles ? More than architecture and painting , sculpture demands too much of aesthetic value. I guess it was main art form in Greek and Roman art , in comparison to other two. I miss those creatives; where architecture without sculptures and paintings can not be imagined. There is a book called 'Ten books in Architecture' by architect Vitruvius , where we can read this fact that how sculpture was inseparable part of architecture in those times. Amazing !!!
(sorry for wandering off the subject.)
You know, you may be right. I don't actually know the statistics, but you certainly don't hear about sculptors very often, especially marble sculptors. I should research this sometime. It's such an amazing art form. You're right! One wrong move and there's no going back. I still think that kinetic art forms will always be desired because I think we need that physical creation activity. Seems part of our nature as humans.
She’s so special isn’t she? Every time I see her I cannot look away and she stays with me like I’ve just finished reading a good book.
Well said...I agree
What I would like to know is how he achieved this effect. Can you point me to a resource that explains it?
Well, with a quick look, I don't see specifics on how they imply the sheer fabrics, but I found these two videos on marble sculpting:

Didn’t you cover this before? I am getting a very strong sense of de ja vu. Not that I mind, I love the bust of the supposed nun.
I did....I had initially published with the other one I think you noticed, but removed them both shortly after to revamp. Sorry again for any confusion...
@@JillPoyerdFineArt No, not at all! It was so nice seeing the video again; it just makes my mind drift away to paints and strokes 😊.
Ethereal.
WOW, IVE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE ...IT'S INCREDIBLE...TO B ABLE TO REPRESENTS A VAIL ..IN STONE ! THE ONLY THING I DISLIKE ABOUT YOUR VIDEOS IS THEY MAKE ME FEEL SO INFERIOR AS AN ARTIST :( ....BUT I KEEP WATCHING ANYWAY ..YOU DO A FANTASTIC JOB. SO INFORMATIVE...IVE WATCHED UR VIDEOS A FEW TIMES ... NO ONE CARES IF YOU REPEAT A VID.
Thank you, Red. I know what you mean...it could be a damper. I think that's why I like to see the mistakes they make, their early work, or their lesser pieces. Then, they look more human...
First! 😊
Can you add Turkish subtitles to your videos? We would be very happy if you do this.
I will definitely check on this. Will let you know…
@@JillPoyerdFineArt thank you for this.
I almost forgot to tell you - Turkish should be available on my videos now. Let me know if you see otherwise. Hopefully the translation is tolerable.
@@JillPoyerdFineArt I watched all the videos everything is very nice very clear. You have been very helpful. Thank you.
You already made this video and I know why you're making it again. I wouldn't surprised if you make a 3rd one since all of you masons are so obsessed with the number 3. Bla! This "veiled nun" Is Saturn.
I have to apologize. A few others mentioned seeing this one as well. I actually didn't think I had it up that long when I first released it many months ago. I needed to take it down for a few reasons, one of which was to tweak part of it. There was nothing cynical or mysterious about it, though. Believe me. Just purely a re-vamp on my page. There aren't any other re-posts coming.
