Liberace was a genuine celebrity in America from the 50's to his watermelon diet in the 80's. Look for his cameos in TV and films. My parents knew the reason he never married..He was on the Mike Douglas show often..Friends called him 'Lee'.
Perhaps even more bizarre, I am an Australian composer. During the early 90s I used to stay at Liberace's Palm Springs Villa as a guest of his remaining family and friends, usually after playing at celebrations honouring him in Las Vegas. The first piece of music published of mine at 14 years of age was titled "Daybreak."
'The Sparks Brothers' premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2021. However, the musical movie 'Annette', directed by Leos Carax, starring Adam Driver, Marion Cotillard and Simon Helberg, original story, music and lyrics by Ron and Russell Mael (Sparks) premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in July, 2021. 'Best Director' went to Carax, but since he isn't interested in standing before an audience, two very touched gentlemen accepted the prize on his behalf. The authors Ron Mael and Russell Mael, at that time just to be 76 and 73 years young. 'Annette' won a bunch of prizes at film festivals in both Europe and the US, and was nominated for several more. Among other Ron and Russell received 'Best Original Music' at the César Film Festival. Not one dry eye to find in Sparks' fan community 😅!
The two films together brought thousands of new fans, and the belated tour for the 2020 album 'A Steady Drip Drip Drip' was longer and larger than in many years. In May, 2023 they released 'The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte', an even more successful album. Ron and Russell had a band named 'Urban Renewal Project' 1966-67, and in early January, 1967, they went to a "rent-by-hour" studio and recorded a couple of songs. One of them somehow found its way up on YT, not the technical quality of a professional recording, but definitely worth a listen! 'Computer Girl', remember this was in January '67! Robots were popular, the most futuristic things imaginable you could think of. Who cared about how they were supposed to work? Ron, Russell and their friends in the band took the computer out from the robot, and made a psychedelic song, where the storyteller is in love with his computer, without limbs etc. The combination of a computer girl, the lyrics and the totally spaced psychedelic music and Russell's voice magically make you look another way from the poor recording. However, 2019 Sparks released the compilation album 'PAST TENSE: The Best of Sparks', where they had picked (depending on what kind of issue you choose) one or two songs from every album. They also dug out their own copy of 'Computer Girl', tried to fix up the sound a little, but on the album there's a comment after the title "Yes, it has scratches on it. Thank you." For a newbeginner to Sparks, IF you can lay your hands on the three CD version, BUY IT! Rarely mentioned is that right after they had recorded 'No. 1 in Heaven' with the synth forerunner Giorgio Moroder producing, they wrote an album for, and produced too, the mysterious Noël (this was 1978 or '79), 'Is There More To Life Than Dancing?', with the fantastic synth-disco song 'Dancing Is Dangerous'. Moroder should be proud about how enormously much the guys had learned through the time they recorded 'No. 1 In Heaven'! Noël was a model/singer from Los Angeles (it is said) that Ron and Russell helped and promoted. (In the late nineties they tried to help their drummer at the time, Christi Haydon, to a singing career, and wrote a couple of songs for her and helped her recording I, together with the The Who's song 'Boris the Spider' and BeeGee's 'Holiday'. That EP is included as bonus material on the anniversary edition for Gratuitous Sax' 2019, but sadly not a song Ron had written for her to sing on the concerts when touring with the 'Gratuitous Sax And Senseless Violin' album, 1994, 'Katherine Hepburn'.)
Magique...Ron et Russell...

This song haunted me.. 🎶but in a good way. I wish I could have met Liberace 🎉🙏
One of Ron's best, a very light-hearted haunting.
all-round Superb.......Thanks.

The 80’s were so awesome! I feel for the kids who didn’t get to grow up during this time!
I agree. This came out in 1994 though ;)
Well now I'm sad all over again RIP Lee
First person to come back in 2020?
Looks like a wery mini kraftwerk The robots!
I wrote an album called "The World" this sounds like the first track on it called "Daybreak" how bizarre, he even sings it like me not him
