- let’s do the sea urchins anatomy!
Sea urchins are thought to have only spines,
but they also have tube feet along the five lobes like starfish
If you put a sea urchin in water, you can see tentacle-like tube feet coming out!

Imagine the first human that catch it and were like "imma eat this"
Our neolithic ancestors must be weird ass fucks.
"Look at this moving thing with pincers"
"Hey tom, lets boil it and eat it"
"Great idea"
They usually fed it to animals before they ate it to see what would happen
It’s how we discovered we could eat a _lot_ of things. Crabs and clams, for two examples among many.
@@b1ff Hope we were smart enough in the past to know how to remove the shell. My dog has eaten live crabs with it
I imagine the first human who decided to eat durian...
Him: “So be careful” *wears three sets of gloves*
Also him at the start: *holds said sharp spine with bare hands*
Lol

This video is just a sample of our weird world full of strange creatures including humans!
makes getting it up the butt seem a lot safer
Why are there goofy ass effects in the video
LMAOOOOOOO
The reason you don't need gloves is because the spikes aren't sharp at all, they are round. You could make a comparation with a Lego piece, as Legos has a bunch of soft pointy corners, but it couldn't ever hurt you unless you squeezed it really hard in the palm of your hand or stepped on it with the entire weight of your body. Difference being is that the Lego piece would probably be fine after being stepped on by a human, the Sea Urchin would be out of luck.
The spines they walk on are dull the ones on their heads are sharp
Hell no they are very sharp, i've got one out of the sea myself and its not pleasant to hold, i had to use a stick i found underwatee to carry it to land
So they are pretty hollow inside lol
Brings a hole lot of meaning of being abducted by aliens
Who would've known simple creatures like starfish, and urchin could have a very impressive and complex body parts and anatomy
Edit : OMG MOM IM FAMOUS

I am partial to the sea lamprey. It is one of few animals with bones that have no pineal gland. The hagfish is also the same. Beware the vertebrate animal without a pineal gland.
@@indridcold8433 Why?
@@life_behind_glass They do not dream. How do their minds keep from destroying themselves? They boarder on supernatural. Crocodillians also have no discreet pineal gland. It is rather part of another structure in crocodillians so it can be argued there is sort of one in the. They too have a strange lore behind them. Hagfish and, sea lamprey have no sign of a pineal gland at all. However, the lore behind these animals may be just that, lore. The pineal gland, itself, has a lot of myth and lore, as well. Read about the myths surrounding the pineal gland. There are some really strange thoughts about it, seat of the soul, psychic center, dreams, and more! That is why the sea lamprey, hagfish, and crocodillians have myths, as well.
We need more Sebastian. He is the best kitteh

Some sea urchins got this blue glow that makes them like a goddamn alien bomb, it's so cool!
We've been eating the gonads of the urchin this whole time??? Damn bro
Can you do more sea creatures please? Maybe cuttlefish, crab or fish. Love your videos!
The sea lamprey would be amazing! It is one of the very few vertebrates without a pineal gland. I believe the hagfish is another. However, the hagfish is somewhere between vertebrate and invertebrate. I have seen it list both ways in different books. Crocodilian species are also known to not have a discreet Pinal gland.
The fuck is this voice audio and sound effects? Lol
Sea urchin just like corona virus
These are real but unicorns aren't.
sea urchins tastes like if the sea punched you in the face, 11/10 would eat urchins again
I wonder how a creature know how to move, what and when to eat without even having a brain.
Jellyfish are the exact same way
They have some connections of neurons, like a primordial brain. Mostly the movement comes from nerves & muscles. Same as a jellyfish, just barely sentient enough to thrive.
Perhaps they move in the direction of plant related emissions by chemical receptors on the spines..
When it senses plant matter below it.. excite the mouth..
Soon to be master of fisheries science
Love to watch all your videos 🥰😍
The cat taste test is always funny

Dude the editing on these videos crack me up every time. Comedy gold
Sound effects went hard
The passion shines through in every video. It's truly inspiring.
Ngl, I used to think that sea urchins were plants.
I've seen them crawl around fish tanks. Just up the wall. At one point, all 5 in one of the tanks at school decided to bunch up at one corner on top and they had to split them up.
sounds llike either bad water quality or mating display. if they arent caniballistic, i dunno about the last part tbh. but those tentacles look long enough to get chomped.
@@inquisitorwalmarius6650 they weren't hurt by it.
The only explanation we could think of was that they just accidentally crawled onto each other and started freaking out. Which ended up with them bumping into other sea urchins in the tank and perpetuating the process until they got tired.
@@Rose_Butterfly98 would have been a more enetertaining and educational moment if it had been mating, but i can see what you describe happening easily
What's with all the goofy sound effects?

Sea archins 😂 idk why that bugs me the way he says it
Eat more purple sea urchin to save kelp forests
The cat gave it the sniff off!
Do they feel pain?
Hmm... They can't feel pain "probably"
Their nervous system is extremely primitive for an animal. I'd say they probably do have the ability to detect and avoid stimuli that could endanger it's life, but that doesn't necessarily equate to "feeling pain". Without a brain, and with only the most rudimentary nervous system, it's reasonable to assume that they do not experience consciousness of any sort. Still, it is disturbing to see them killed, because they move and exhibit a "will" of their own, but their nervous system is much simpler than even that of an insect. It is very decentralized, with each tube foot and spine following its own simple set of behaviors, communicating with one another to move towards or away from certain stimuli, and a few more simple behaviours to control the mouthparts, digestive system, and sexual organs.
