  • let’s do the sea urchins anatomy!
Sea urchins are thought to have only spines,
but they also have tube feet along the five lobes like starfish
If you put a sea urchin in water, you can see tentacle-like tube feet coming out!

The reason you don't need gloves is because the spikes aren't sharp at all, they are round. You could make a comparation with a Lego piece, as Legos has a bunch of soft pointy corners, but it couldn't ever hurt you unless you squeezed it really hard in the palm of your hand or stepped on it with the entire weight of your body. Difference being is that the Lego piece would probably be fine after being stepped on by a human, the Sea Urchin would be out of luck.

It is rather part of another structure in crocodillians so it can be argued there is sort of one in the. They too have a strange lore behind them. Hagfish and, sea lamprey have no sign of a pineal gland at all. However, the lore behind these animals may be just that, lore. The pineal gland, itself, has a lot of myth and lore, as well. Read about the myths surrounding the pineal gland. There are some really strange thoughts about it, seat of the soul, psychic center, dreams, and more! That is why the sea lamprey, hagfish, and crocodillians have myths, as well.

The sea lamprey would be amazing! It is one of the very few vertebrates without a pineal gland. I believe the hagfish is another. Their nervous system is extremely primitive for an animal. I'd say they probably do have the ability to detect and avoid stimuli that could endanger it's life, but that doesn't necessarily equate to "feeling pain". Without a brain, and with only the most rudimentary nervous system, it's reasonable to assume that they do not experience consciousness of any sort. Still, it is disturbing to see them killed, because they move and exhibit a "will" of their own, but their nervous system is much simpler than even that of an insect. It is very decentralized, with each tube foot and spine following its own simple set of behaviors, communicating with one another to move towards or away from certain stimuli, and a few more simple behaviours to control the mouthparts, digestive system, and sexual organs.
