    Great review Jim, i got the same bike. Must say I'm really liking it. I have yet to get the roof and front windshield but those are next. I did get the 72" steel pro mount plow with mine. It plows awesome. Only issue is I find my box vibrates and makes a fair bit of noise when driving. but when it get warmer outside I'll take a look and hopefully solve that issue. I'm in Nova Scotia as well

      I have seen some guys are putting a rubber spacer under the box mounts to stop the noise

      Glad to hear you are enjoying your rig. The plow is for next season for me. I wasn’t sure if 60 or 72 blade would be the wise choice. I found the box vibration on mine was when the machine was cold, but after a few minutes, the rattle is much less. However David posted a good tip for the rubber spacer under the mounts. I will look into this if I notice it gets worse this spring. See you on the trail!

    Finally a review of the hd7 I have one on order should have it by April pretty much ordered the same accessories except I ordered passengers storage box and fender flairs . How do you find it for power.

    • @AvoidingChores
      @AvoidingChores  2 роки тому +1

      You’ll be very happy with it. The fender flairs will look sharp. Although I don’t have a previous machine to compare it to, the HD7 seems to be more than enough for my needs so far. Had 2 passengers and about 300lbs in the box (generator, fuel, bags of sand) didn’t notice any difference driving around (in terms of power) compared to when I was empty.

    Great video - thanks! I just got one with the front windshield and roof only.....and am wondering about the windshield - does it fog up? Would it be better to get one that vents?

    • @AvoidingChores
      @AvoidingChores  Рік тому

      I had to deal with the windshield fogging up when there's condensation in the morning. I usually keep a cheap squeegee for that. Once you get going it usually clears up. I've since added a manual wiper blade and a spray bottle with wiper fluid. The issue I have now is the backdraft on dusty rides, I'm debating on getting the vinyl back window instead of the mesh to cut that down.

    Nice review. I'm looking at this machine also. I currently have a 2013 Polaris Ranger 800 and looking to get a newer machine for hunting purposes. I'm interested in the pulling power of Low range gear? I couldn't tell you the last time I put my Ranger in High due to the trails I ride. I also noticed that the HD7 has 52 HP compared to my 800's 40 HP. Don't need alot of bells and whistles, just a reliable machine to get me from A to B. I'm not a Mud rider but my trail does have 1 spot that can get somewhat bad. But hauling equipment, feed to feeders, stands, ETC, is what I'm looking for.
    So how would rank the Low End power of this HD7?

    • @AvoidingChores
      @AvoidingChores  2 роки тому

      Very good question Stephen - I hope others will chime in here from their experiences, but right now I’ve hauled around a 5500W generator, and several bags of salt & sand so far over the winter. I found Low to be the appropriate gear for controlled movement with a load in the back around the yard, but otherwise for trail riding, it’s on high. The differential lock switch comes in very handy when you got it on Low and 4x4, there’s a lot of room to get you out of a sticky situations.

      @@AvoidingChores That's good to know. I saw the newer 2022 Polaris 570 SP was tailored toward more low end drivability, but its a midsize., thus me looking at the HD7 because really don't need more HP for my riding.

    how does the rear windscreen work for keeing dust / snow dust from coming back into the cabin?

    • @AvoidingChores
      @AvoidingChores  2 роки тому +1

      So far had some late spring snow and rain and does a good job keeping that from coming in. Once things dry up more I’ll be able to see about dust but with no doors might be hard to evaluate.

    How fast does it go… and can you get it plated in any state? I have a lawncare business and pull trailers with mowers all the time. Do you think this thing would be strong enough to do so?

    • @AvoidingChores
      @AvoidingChores  2 роки тому

      Check the other replies up top, i don’t think we have a confirmed top speed yet. Not sure about your jurisdiction, but in mine; this is still plated as an ATV and maybe where you are, you can install the “street legal” kit if your towns allows this rigs to drive on certain class of road. For hauling, it’s not a small amount and I don’t have the exact number (you can find it on BRP website) it might be 2000 lbs towing. Might be different with the HD9 or 10.

    Great review looks like a sweet machine! I am also thinking about getting this same model I have an older can am commander that I like but recently had some health issues and cant ride it because it's way to loud I do wear ear plugs but was wondering how quiet your hd 7 is ? Could you possibly do another video of you riding it so we all can see how quiet it is. Thanks and enjoy your awesome machine.

    • @AvoidingChores
      @AvoidingChores  2 роки тому +1

      My initial impression when getting the machine was how quite it is. With a helmet or headphone it should cut a lot. But I will measure the db level - I think I can do that on the new iPhone.

      @@AvoidingChores thanks for responding I appreciate it. Was just curious if when you are riding it the inside noise level was acceptable my comander is not I have a front windshield and roof and plastic back on it and it's so loud in there the noise just resonates all around inside if we go riding we haft to wear ear plugs and ear muffs or a helmet. Is there much vibration with it being a single cylinder? Usually the singles vibrate alot my 4 wheeler does. Thanks

    • @jew0182
      @jew0182 2 роки тому +1

      It’s by far the smoothest and quietest single cylinder I’ve ever been around. It’s crazy how smooth and quite it really. I will say I have the max so the engine is further away. But I can’t imagine the single seat being any worse.

    • @AvoidingChores
      @AvoidingChores  2 роки тому +1

      I’ll post the video it next week, but I did a comparison using my Apple watch’ noise app. Champion 5500W generator = 92db, Husqueverna snowblower (79 db idle, 90 db full gas), and the Defender was (67 db idle, 83 db at 4000 RPM, 91 db at 5500 RPM going ~52km/h with whatever cross wind noise was going inside the cab) With the other comment today, with an insulated cab, the noise would be lower. I rode yesterday and found that when I’m cruising at 3800 RPM, I can easily have a conversation with my passenger. I may speak a bit louder obviously but both of us can converse.

    • @AvoidingChores
      @AvoidingChores  2 роки тому +1

      Exactly - I posted earlier that I made some measurements against some other noisy items around the house and when idle, it’s quieter than my snowblower also at idle. Sitting in a max would be quiet a bit quieter I can imagine. It is getting smoother and smoother with each ride.

    Mpg?

    • @AvoidingChores
      @AvoidingChores  2 роки тому +1

      So far my initial estimates has me around 28mpg which seems a bit high but I’ve been hovering in the low RPM’s lately while on trail. Gas provider seems to make a difference, my latest tank seems to be dropping a bit faster the only difference is where I got it. Will have to pay extra attention to the grade more closely if that makes *that* much of a difference. I figure I can easily get ~ 300km off a tank give the type of riding I do.

      @@AvoidingChores keep an eye on it, My bike has given no reason to believe its burning any or leaking any for that matter as everything is dry. but I checked mine the other day for the first time as well, when you bring a new bike home from the dealer you shouldn't have to check it first thing and I'm sure its not on most peoples minds to do so. At 100kms mine is showing at the bottom mark. I also found some other things that was just sloppy work by the mechanics putting the bike together, pathetic really. I'm very mechanically inclined and my son use to worked for several dealers putting bikes together from factory. so when I say pathetic i mean it. My guess is at least with mine it was slapped together and they never topped the oil up from factory. i'll be on the phone with dealer first thing in the morning if their open. depending on what they say I guess depends on if I contact Can-Am but I'm not buying oil for a bike thats got 100kms on it, I already paid the dealer to do their job and they didn't.
