Honestly my favourite interview you’ve done. I love the in-depth discussion on the optimisation of UA-cam content. If it’s possible getting someone like Mr Beast on to talk about that would be a super interesting conversation!
Actually saw this video through a UA-cam short, had no idea Matpat did an interview about this until I saw it. I feel like not many people realized this happened so I'm glad I found this video
I haven't watched the theory channels in probably years at this point. I saw a clip from this on a short and immediately came to watch. Love him or hate him MatPat has a better understanding of the mechanics of content creation than probably 95% of people in the space. I remember him once talking about how he even optimizes his color scheme to maximize engagement. If he started a company and filled it with hand trained consultants it would do gangbusters.
I found this through a youtube shorts video and I'm glad I checked out the actual video! Its well made and very enjoyable and I'm surprised there's only 4k views on this.
I saw a short and i do not regret clicking on this. I learned so much stuff! The questions and interview went so smoothly i didnt even notice how long it was. Great vid!
I can honestly listen to Mat talk all day especially when it's something he's passionate about. This interview was great, I like how it was so well put together, the *-packing-* pacing and how you asked intriguing questions and let Mat answer them freely which led to adLib questions. It felt like just an ordinary discussion rather than a scripted list.
This was extremely interesting and fun to watch! I'm a big UA-cam nerd and when Matpat said "you read thumbnails left to right" and "Your first 5 videos are a thesis statement for your channel" I lost my shit and started pacing and laughing just... Wow. Seriously awesome video :)) Loved it all the way through
it is not cool that so few people have seen this video everyone who has ever wanted to start a channel or wants to know why youtube is the way it is will love this video. It is so entertaining and genuinely uniquely informative
wow... hearing MatPat's video-making process and UA-cam journal is incredibly inspiring. I could listen to him for hours if he gave a lecture on how to crack UA-cam's algorithm! thanks so much for this SUPER informative video! 🔥
MatPat is by far my favourite UA-camr. I’ve always been the nerdy type when I’m alone (I’m a bit of a jock at school and with people) and I always look for lore in everything I play or watch. I love learning and MatPat is able to make it fun and with something that is very important to me. I’ve honestly learnt so much from this guy. He is very popular but I believe he should have more because of the amount of nerdy people on this site. Love ya Mathew
Revisiting this after he announced his break - and it's clear from this video 2 years ago that his work ethic was always insane from the beginning - he definately deserves his break
💯 I often think back to this interview and the stories he shared about how hard he and his wife worked especially now that I’m working with my wife on this channel too
we will miss him, but he's not dead, he said he will do stuff still... just not sleepless nights for so many years in a row (that's almost a direct quote) , and good for him.
Matpat, Game Theory, and Film Theory, and GTLive (haven't delved into Food Theory yet,) are a guilty pleasure of mine. I've been a fan of his since his "Link is Dead" theory, and I gotta admit, seeing him in a full-body camera shot like that throws me off lol. Love this interview, nuff said.
Mat is the reason I wanted to learn more about the gears of youtube. This video is so helpful and anyone who wants to be a YT should def watch it. Thanks for making it!
Well, you got 43 minutes of watch time from me! 😁👍 Saw the short and clicked the link in your comment. I could watch MatPat talk about what interests him for hours upon hours, which I have done on countless Theory videos. But as someone who is in the planning stages of launching a channel myself, I find this especially fascinating!
Thank you for another great video! I really enjoyed the section of working with your loved ones. My mom and I work together on our channel and so true about putting relationship first! Such a great guest! 😊🍁🍂
I saw this on a shorts and holy shit I HAD to see it fully. 43 minutes never better spent, amazing interview. MatPat is such an amazing professional and really the best face UA-cam could've had.
I can relate so much when it comes to the voice thing, I get super loud, people end up telling me to stop yelling :/ but I love his enthusiasm. I don't feel it as much with some of his new content. But when it comes to his best content it has an excitement to talk about it that nobody else popular has
Thanks to the UA-cam homepage i saw the short, and watched the interview now, its really great, its always interesting to hear MatPat talk in any interview setting, at least to me, a very good video over all. Also whats interesting is the video he talked about thats taking a lot about research about celebrity voice actors, has not came out yet, I hope he is still doing that, and its just taking a lot to research
I was brought here by the Short of this interview. When came the early prompt of subscribing to the channel, I went to check the list of your recent videos to see how likely I would end up watching more of your interviews in the near future, based on what kind of people you interviewed outside of MatPat. I already knew at 8 minutes of the video that I would love it's entirety, but I also am already spending 90% of all my free time trying to keep up with all my UA-cam subscriptions, so I thought to myself "I'll wait before subscribing, since I'll watch this one till the end, the algorithm probably will notify me if he releases something new, and if it's for me then I could subscribe. Then, after the whole segment about the call to action and getting people to subscribe, I ended up thinking that I might as well subscribe now and ignore the next upload if I'm not interested or don't have time to watch, than risk missing on such awesome interviews. Subscribing to a channel never felt more meta, and I guess I got too inspired by MatPat nerdy interest for mental processes, because I then felt the urge to write an entire TED Talk about it in the comments. 😅 So very long story short, I am now subscribed and I thank you for this amazing, insightful and very instructive interview! I loved every second of it!
Wow what a great interview! As someone who also loves to learn its just so fascinating hearing about how little things like thumbnails can have such an impact on the platform, and that's coming from someone who doesn't ever intend to create. It also is insane this has so little views, especially considering I'm coming from the short that has nearly 2 million views. The interaction between shorts and full length videos is another interesting topic to talk about! Also great to end on a topic like the polarization of digital creators from the rest of media. It really blows my mind how unaware and unwilling to learn traditional media can be. I do think another really interesting case of it working is the Hot Ones series, they have such a variety of traditional celebrities (although they are missing a Matpat episode).
Mainly commenting for the algorithm (neural network) but I also wanted say this. WTF THIS VIDEO IS SO GOOD COMPARED TO ITS TRACTION. I clicked on it, saw the top comment, checked the views (expecting them to be in the millions or atleast 100 thousands) and not even 50k. You sir deserve way more recognition. This content is amazing!
Leave it to him to make something so seemingly simple sound so intricate and beautiful. I mean this in the least corny way possible, lol, but he really has a way with words.
I’m surprised this didn’t get a million views, and full time or guest host every once in a while I’d love that. I’d love to watch!!! Yes there is other good hosts, but I think someone like matpat or Safia (typo) I would be great to see. I miss Alex, but those would be good guest hosts; and part/full time hosts of jeopardy. I love jeopardy!!!
Very interesting. I have a small channel myself and just became monitized actually woot woot! So thank you for the tips and I appreciate your time in making this.

And guess what, MatPat's advice was to put it in the middle of the video and make it fit (sorta) with the main topic of the video. That was a very smart move, new sub XDD
Great interview I don’t even watch matpat that much. Maybe once a blue moon that I end up binging a few recent vids from food theory. He knows his stuff though. Im in marketing and these are things we study all the time in the business. They don’t teach you much at uni

But would love to hear more details on what you mean so I can make sure to incorporate in my next videos! So glad to have you here!
@@youshaei Thanks for taking my words into account! Yes, I do mean your audio level. I can point out that there are points like at 23:23, when you cut to “Next part” and start discussing his thumbnails, the audio is significantly louder than the entire previous bit. There are other parts where the audio dips and went back to normal after a couple of seconds as well (aside from the bit where Matt was singing and you had to lower the audio), but I can’t specifically recall the time stamp to it. Hope that helps clarifying!
