Hello, I just acquired this train set a few days ago. The light comes on but the train makes no effort to move at all. I pushed the switch on the side in forward direction and manually turns the wheels with my hands. It took a little effort to move them but they started moving on their own for like 3 seconds and now when I manually turn the wheels, there’s little resistance- I can’t find much info online about this train, is it a gear problem?
Since the motor is weak you will have to buy another train to replace the spare parts. You can find the New Bright train sets on eBay. It would be nice if they still make the parts for them but they don't that's what sucks.
You can't find any information about these New Bright trains the only option you got is "Me" or they might have some videos here on UA-cam not 100% sure but the New Bright train sets is my hubby I fix them and get them running again they are easy to fix. Back in the 80s I was just a little boy the New Bright train set was my very first train set that I own I sure love them and now I started collected them as my hubby and model. If you need any help on your train set let me know I'll get back with you as soon as I can.
@@derekthompson6653 Hi, no worries about the response time, I appreciate your reply. I’ve worked on it since the time I commented on your video. At the time, when the train was on, the light was on but there was absolutely no movement at all, forward or back. After messing with it a little, I realized that the wheel parts were frozen, as when I would manually turn them, there was a ton of resistance. After manually turning the wheels for a few seconds, it broke free and now rotates with ease. It still would not move at all when on, so I took it apart and manually turned the big gear. I did so for about a minute and eventually, it starts turning on its own. The motor would stop spinning every few seconds so I kept flicking it with my finger and it eventually kept going under its own power. It now moves forward and back, but is still very weak as it stops on the tracks with just the battery cart attached and needs a push to get going again. My batteries are old and not a great brand so I don’t know if the motor is just weak or if fresh batteries would fix the power struggle, it would cost me $18 to find out- haven’t decided if it’s worth it or not. I’m also not sure how to put fluid in for the smoke.
@@derekthompson6653 Yeah, I wish there was more public information about it online. That’s a really cool hobby. I felt really good about getting mine to work, and it was my first time ever working on one. Very simple system too. I have a hobby with fixing broken iPhones, been doing it since I was 14 ish. Love doing it. That’s a really cool backstory to your train hobby, I certainly appreciate your sharing it with UA-cam. I got pretty lucky finding mine down the street on a sidewalk, someone was cleaning their garage out and it was one of the items they were giving away. Complete in box. I’m no expert in these trains but I do plan on making a video and showing how to disassemble it, and what I did to get mine working again. Apologies for my lengthy reply!
It's your gears that's messed up. If you take it apart and look at the gears you will see a small crack on the gear. When the motor is trying to move the gear you will see it's not want to grab with the other gears it's slipping. The gears that's attached to the middle piece it has to be snug tight for it to turn with the other gears to make the wheels turn. The only way to get your gears to work is to get on eBay and buy spare parts for the train. More likely you will have to buy a used train to get the parts. They do not make this train or the parts anymore so more likely you'll have to buy a set of trains to get the parts off of it to make your train work.
Derek, I got one at the Goodwill and I’m trying to hook it up and it’s not working is there a way we could talk?
Sorry it took me so long to message. Yeah we can message or if you are ok talking on the phone we can. What's wrong with your train?

Sorry it took me so long to reply. No. The motor is just weak. Does it run on the track ok or does it barely move on the track?

Hi sir. I have the same train. It goes on but the wheels don't want to turn. What can be the problem. Can u please provide me with some advice.
