That is cool to know that there is now a light rail system that runs through part of downtown Norfolk Virginia. By summer 2008, I made a decision which was far from easy to do of voluntarily selling back my mazda3 car because I intuitively knew that I had to prepare for some changes ahead of time for some of what I had planned in my personal and professional life. My husband and I managed to still get around during our remaining months living in Norfolk Virginia though obviously because of my experiences I feel that the light rail in Norfolk Virginia that is being featured here is a good idea, maybe in the future the light rail option can be expanded into other multple places around the Hampton Roads Virginia area. In the suburb of the metropolitan Washington DC area where my husband and I currently live the public transportation is excellent because there are connecting trains and bus systems that have been in place for multiple years even before my husband and I moved to this area in 2010. Still, it is great to see what one of the public transportation options are in the area that this youtube video is being filmed at.
Virginia Beach has turned down the expansion twice, but if the Tide extends to the Airport and Norfolk Naval that will change at the very least it will extend to Town Center
Likely the smallest new light rail in the U.S. other than streetcar lines in Cincinnati, Detroit, KC and OKC. 7.4 miles, just 9 cars. Station platforms just 1 car length, stymying any ridership boom. Harbor Park stop is near Amtrak's Norfolk station for travel to Richmond, Washington and points north.
It seems your not a resident of this city, so what concern is it if yours what they spend money on? Can't fault Norfolk for making improvements to the downtown area, (lord forgive Norfolk for not being more like San Diego 🙄).. it's still much better looking city than some of the shitburgs up north and in the midwest..
Probably recorded early morning on a Sunday, that's about the only time these streets are this silent.. during the week during rush hour it's much more activity going on
It was shot on a holiday or Sunday morning, trust me,Norfolk is much busier than this footage in the video, during the week in the morning and afternoon way more activity.
Man this looks like the true definition of a ghost town, sheesh what time of day was this filmed because I got eery sense of lifelessness there. Kinda depressing tbh
Those carbound clowns are stuck in the sprawl and crawl thinking...you know the type.Get in their car to drive to a strip mall 1 block away for cigarettes.
Lowest ridership is the USA is in Loser City Tucson,AZ, I call Tucson a loser city because the damned 1970’s Party runs the city and has a mentality that 1880 & beyond are only street addresses, not years & decades have purposely, deliberately & intentionally drove away employers such as IBM, Frito Lay, Texas Instruments, Slim-Fast FOODS, ALL SPRING TRAINING BASEBALL which brought in 90.million dollars for 1 month of spring training baseball provided by 3 MLB teams.

Thats because most non insitefull spread out US cities are stuck on outmoded cars only.Sprawl and crawl are your way of thinking....good for you Norfolk for trying ...dealing with these 1960s transportation mode thinking people there.
Lol I think they’re so generic and boring. Sure, they’re in use in like 20 cities around the country, but they have no character and are just boring. I really hate the propulsion sound on them, too. It sounds stupid.
God forbid that American rail should deviate from the boring blue and grey interior design... and then overcompensate with the cars covered in colorful advertisements... Not very stylish

I just love how the propulsion is the same as the one in Houston. Gotta love those Siemens trains.

Bell and Announcement Bell sound different than the ones we have in San Diego
Terrific catches/power/races/meets! I love the basketball lightrail train!

Waste of money in a nothing city!
Walt Keast, lessee, either you never been to Norfolk or had a bad time there.

Gotta say, it’s quite amusing to see a public transit vehicle with advertising for EZ-Pass.
Where is everyone? Norfolk seems rather quiet; no pedestrians or cars. Felt like the light rail was the only signs of activity.
It might be the weather or the time and day this was filmed.
0:57 Car related ad on an LRV. What an irony lol.
Richmond is lot more vibrant and walkable I can't believe Richmond doesn't have light rail and Norfolk does Richmond reminds me a lot of DC.
I like the ez pass wrap
Nice video of the light rail tram system in Norfolk Virginia 👍👍👍
Salt Lake City also uses S70’s
why this city is so deserted where cars are
Probably stuck in traffic on i264, or i64, probably filmed on a Sunday

I realize the weather wasn't ideal, but I cannot recall seeing a city so utterly devoid of human activity as this one.

Does anyone rides it?
Do they only run 1-car trains? I guess the platforms are only long enough to support 1-car trains?
They only run single units because ridership is low and they don’t need 70000 units coupled together
2:08 you can hear a freight train in the distance
lots of EZ Pass wraps wow.!
God, what dreary weather!
can i use a clip of this for a video ?
please email at timpatsuk1@gmail.com your request
Very nice video. A big like!

Most likely a Sunday morning, Norfolk by no means is a ghost town, these same streets are pretty busy during weekdays
lowest lrt ridership in usa?

Tucson’s trolley is only 3 miles which is a joke has the lowest ridership of all trolley networks nationwide.
Nice video, like
World's most expensive billboard.
Ads add to transit revenue.

Do highways cover their costs? Airports?
This channel should be for transit enthusiasts, not critics or foes.

Why advertise EZPass to people not using cars, that's like offering kotex to men at gay bar.
