I had played Strats for a long time and have discovered I now like humbuckers better. My se DGT has the best tones for my personal taste in this point in my life. Am in the process of converting my se silver sky over to dual humbuckers with the DGT schematics.
    Cheers

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN !!
If you like the split on the DGT SE you should try to get ahold of a Paul's guitar SE. The split on those pickups sounds fantastic as does the humbucker mode in my humble opinion.

Happy Birthday, man! Thank you for your content!! I just got the DGT SE as well and I agree with everything I've heard about it on your channel and others. It punches WAY above it's price (paid $750ish on a good deal in the States).

Happy Birthday, and hope it's a awesome one!
What surprised me most about a guitar are 2 specific things I changed on my Strat. The first is going to one-pickup configuration, that being a Humbucker in the Bridge location. What was surprising is that because I use a Modeler, dialing in became more efficient and easier to get great tones because I never switch to a different pickup that my Presets don't sound as good on.
The other thing involves something all most all of us have heard many times - "A little bit of Neck Relief makes the the guitar easier to play." The surprise was that the weather changed, and my Strat neck which usually had a little bit of Relief in it became super easy to play. I didn't know what the reason was, and had wondered if a serendipitous sequence of events was the cause. I eventually traced to a perfectly flat neck, with zero relief. I have since done that to all my guitars with great results. YMMV, but it put an end to GAS for me.

Happy Birthday John. The biggest surprise I had from a guitar was when I picked up an ESP 1000T (Single Cut style - can't get on with a real Les Paul to save my life) with Fishman Fluence pickups (I have never been an active pickup user in my life) and it just sang to me. Five years on, it's still the only single-cut guitar I own - partly thanks to the neck-through construction, which means a smooth, nice heel joint that doesn't inhibit access to the higher frets. The Fishmans are the Open Core Classic Humbuckers which have a very nice PAF-sounding voice, a slightly hotter voice and the best "coil split" single-tone sound you've ever heard from humbuckers. I just wish it had a slightly fatter neck but other than that it blew me away when I was looking at super strats and PRS guitars for a more classic rock-style tone.

Many Happy Returns !! The channel is great and enjoy your playing and advice on guitars . My surprise like is the Silver Sky SE( which I won ) it stands up well against my HSS Strat , light as a feather and plays great . Thought I’d be trading it away for something else but won’t be happening . Fancy the DGT SE 👍

Parker made a JAZZ guitar with a Bigsby called the "PJ 14". I wonder if you could get your hands on one of them, and see what you think. I bet you'll hate it, but I've never seen anyone play it.

Hope you had a really good birthday. Love your channel and your music. I took a chance on a Musician's friend "Deal of the Day" D'Angelico Bedford SSH (premier - which is their lower priced versions ) that was sold as open box. The guitar that came had been used apparently as a floor model - mostly an issue because it wasn't cleaned. The pickups are indonisian version of Seymour Duncan USA's that sound pretty good but not as glassy as the american's. After cleaning it up and doing a little research I determined it was one of the origional versions sent for the floor - it had a flame maple neck. With setup and a replacement of the cheap Vibrato, I had about $460 into it (well below the retail price of $899 at the time). It's a wonderful guitar. Inspiring enough to get me to puirchase a Bob Wier Premier version of his Bedford, also a demo - also replaced the trem - it has a unique switching system (Stacked P90's which are tapped and a strat pickup in the middle). It's now one of my favorite guitars. I'd check them out if you can find one. I replaced both the trems with a PRS style trem made by Solo (in Canada) and go for about $60.

Happy Birthday !! (But I've finished more than twice as many laps around the sun than you. But you play far better than I do.) Thanks for the videos! I have a few "student-edition" type of guitars and I love my PRS SE Standard the most. Plays great and lots of tones with the coil split humbuckers. I have a Fender Player Strat, a G&L ASAT Classic Tribute, an Epiphone SG G-310 (bolt-on) with Seymour Duncan Jazz and 59/Custom pups and Mad Hatter Guitar Products coil split pots, and a 30 year old Alvarez Dana II (but I've worn out a few too many parts, so it is waiting for repairs.) Each one is my favorite - when I'm playing it.

I have a first year (1990) JS1 and have always felt that it is a criminally overlooked guitar. Even people who love Ibanez overlook them. I also think the Jem gets overlooked as just being an RG with a bunch of fancy appointments, but the neck, at least on the old ones, is much better than the RG.

Interesting to hear your comments on the JS1200 that you tested recently. I think if you tried more modern Strats and super Strats you may be surprised. I used to baulk at super Strats, too. But I have tried some that have changed my views.

Happy 35th! I love the Nitefly - I had an HSS one that I reckon was the nicest sounding guitar that I’ve owned and for some mad reason decided to sell. Maybe I just couldn’t get over the dig in the ribs that I got every time I played it!

Hapoy birthday! Wonder what you’d think of the PRs special semi hollow. It only comes in core but may be up your alley in regards of having coil taps and treble bleed. It’s pretty versatile as well and my favorite model of theirs

I started on an OG JS-1 in the early 90s and though I don’t have it anymore, I do have a JS-1000 and a JS-2450. As much of a die hard fan of Satch as I am, the only thing I’d change about them is to… take the Satriani out of it. Some people love strats, other love Les Pauls, I love JS guitars. They’re the most comfortable and playable guitars for me and the coil tap gives me both.

I have an Ibanez Js100 which i grew up playing it, literally it has 0 noise and sounds fantastic, as much as I love this guitar i hate tuning the Floyd rose so basically I stopped playing it, also i like my Prs Se 245 but it’s a little bit bassy so i always have to turn the bass knob all the way down, in the other hand recently i got my baby Prs core hollow body 2 which is a little bit bright but has a balance sound, and playing like a butter, everyone touches this guitar say that it’s the best guitar they have ever played, and i totally agree, please try one because you will love it😊.
