That made me smile too because it's certainly something I have done. I've apologized to inanimate objects I've stubbed my toe on. Funny how that's my instinctual response and not swearing: "Ow! Sorry, chest-of-drawers..." And yes, I'm indeed Canadian :P
Claire, you are the BEST! My daughter and I are avid fans!! This is the only time I would dare to give YOU a tip! As a monkey bread”expert”, trust me when I say you can skip the shaping of the dough balls, dip the balls several at a time in the butter and then nut/sugar mixture. It will save time and effort and be just as delicious and beautiful! I have been making this every Christmas for 30 years! Thank you for making me a better baker and being so entertaining!
This looks so good, I want to make like a crossover between this and the Cardamom Maple Walnut buns.... tossing the dough balls in cardamom/orange zest/walnut/sugar mixture and then assembling the monkey bread from there. Ideal Christmas breakfast! Thanks Claire!
I used to make this as a kid with my Grandma. She dipped in butter, I was the cinnamon sugar keeper. She always kept frozen bread dough in freezer for our visits and i had a stool to see over the counter to 'help' her! Thanks for the memory!❤❤❤
I feel like this is perfect timing for the Holidays. Something shareable for the morning when there's lots of people around. Also I can't think of Claire and brioche without hearing Brad say, "breeogge"
I have always made monkey bread with croissant scraps (I worked at a bakery) with a cinnamon/cardamom/butter/sugar schmear, but next time I’ll try them this way!!
Can’t wait to try this! Thanks for continuing to develop recipes using less sugar. I don’t like overly sweet foods. Like the balance you try to achieve.
Aranygaluska, yay! 😊 I'm Hungarian and it's one of my favourites ❤️ Over here traditionally you would have it with a vanilla sauce that sometimes even has sweet white wine added to it (wine chaudeau if I'm not mistaken) and it's pure walnuty sweet bready heaven on a dessert plate 😍⭐️
I made this with the brioche recipe from dessert person and it was a massive hit over christmas. This was the first time I used a thermometer for cooking bread and it made a MASSIVE difference. The dough was perfect. 👌 Thanks for a beautiful recipe!!
The Dessert Person brioche recipe is tagged but the video description's recipe is way different than the book's? 6 eggs vs 1.5? Also it says instant dry yeast here but the jelly donut brioche and the book both say active dry, which is what Claire says she usually uses.
Haha I am Hungarian and I was like “wait a minute this looks very much like aranygaluska”. It was my favourite dessert as a child ❤ I am very surprised and flattered that it is featured on your channel
I like to take a bit of the melted butter mixed with the sugar mix and pour it over before the final rise. Gives it a beautiful sticky bun top when you turn it out
I made a batch of Claire’s brioche the other night. I let it rise and then put it in the fridge overnight. Yesterday I patted it out into 4 round layers with my favorite cinnamon roll filling. I shaped it into a twisted star, let it proof and baked it! Not only a huge hit but it came out beautifully!
An old high school friend that taught me how to make monkey bread would grab the leftover butter and pour it over the unproofed balls and then dump on top the leftover cinnamon sugar. That extra sugar would make a sort of crust for the pieces that end up at the bottom once turned over and the extra butter made a sort of sauce that covered the whole thing at the end.
Hey! I saw that you made this recipe, and I want to make it too, but I am unsure which recipe of dough to follow because the one in the description is different than the one linked for her jelly donuts. Which did you use? Thanks!!
Honestly one of the best things I’ve ever baked!! I love how precise and thought-out Claire’s recipes are- this is the third dough recipe of Claire’s I have made, and all have been successful (her croissant recipe is amazing!)
Claire! A friend gifted me your new cookbook. It's incredible! I love all the pictures and I tried out the sesame banana tart. It turned out fantastic and the recipe was so easy to follow. All the little notes are so helpful. Great work!
Love monkey bread but in Hungary it's usually served with custard which I think does alleviate the sweetness a bit. Wonder if the custard part is a fairly new thing or that did not migrate to the US 🤔
As far as "arany galuska" goes, with the custard included, it's treated like a complete dish. They serve it at school cafeterias as the meal of the day, which is not the most healthy thing in the world, but watchagonnado. At home, on the other hand, I wouldn't feel the need to have anything along with it, but a nice cup of milk. Coffee is fine too. And we also bake it like burger buns, l mean the small "slider" ones, placed closely, to let them rise and stick to each other. Helps with the proportions while serving.
This looks soooo good! I wonder if you could use the extra toppings in the bag as ingredients to make a caramel sauce that you could drizzle on top if you’d like. Like maybe add more butter to it and reduce it down. Still a wonderful recipe and I definitely need to try it!!
I wonder if the butter used to dip the dough balls to make the sugar-nut mixture stick imparts enough flavor to make a noticeable change in the end result if you tried using either browned butter or ghee instead of standard butter?
curious: what would it look like if a dough did NOT pass the poke test? would it just not spring back? does that mean it needs to proof longer or it's proofed too long?
I would use Claire’s 1 cup raw or Demerara sugar, 1 tablespoons cinnamon, & if you want crunch, try Grape Nuts cereal, or bread crumbs - much less sweet.
I'd love to be able to give this to my siblings for Christmas morning with their families. If frozen after the 2nd rise, do you think it would bake up from frozen? Or defrost overnight? I'll be seeing them all Christmas Eve. Thanks.
Claire will you do a video on banana pudding? I live in TX and my parents live in AL. Our friends and family either bring or expect banana pudding at every potluck and BBQ and birthday party. A layered dessert with bananas and cookies and vanilla pudding - what's not to love right? The thing is that most folks make it with the instant pudding which tastes like fake vanilla and the texture is weird, and they always use non-dairy whipped topping and I think that stuff is nasty. Can you help us folks in TX and other southern states know how to make a better banana pudding?
YUM. I had monkey bread for the first time when I was in college and it was overwhelmingly sweet. This looks perfect though. Will definitely be trying this ❤

Whe...where did that bowl come from?
Oh my god, it's a shapeshifting bowl!
This one was especially funny, I love how Claire casually said 'I just apologized to the cutting board'
I should know better, but just took a sip of water when she said that. Water everywhere.
She must have Canadian blood in her.
@@kimhesketh2016 do Canadians do that??

The delay on the Verdict: MMM while the cas was barfing in the other room made me LOL.
Officially changed my grocery shopping days to Thursday so I can make whatever mouthwatering dessert Claire baked up!
Ok that is the cutest thing ever

Same here. We never shape the dough. Just dip, coat and find a spot for it. :)
so you don't shape, just dip the cut squares into the sugar?
My Hungarian mother made this, called Aranguluska. She served it with a vanilla sauce I’ve since learned was creme anglaise.
This looks so good, I want to make like a crossover between this and the Cardamom Maple Walnut buns.... tossing the dough balls in cardamom/orange zest/walnut/sugar mixture and then assembling the monkey bread from there. Ideal Christmas breakfast! Thanks Claire!

Archie upchucking right as Claire takes a bite…that kitty has good comedic timing

Making this for Christmas Eve breakfast. I had a bag of pecans and was thinking what can i make!!! Love it!!

I was just wanting a good from scratch monkey bread recipe yesterday. Well done Claire.
I love this recipe so much. Sometimes i’ll make the dough balls tiny, use a muffin tray and make mini monkey breads! ✨
why did i always think monkey bread was made with banana bread haha! this would make a great christmas morning brunch!

Claire making aranygaluska >>>>
Love monkey bread but in Hungary it's usually served with custard which I think does alleviate the sweetness a bit. Wonder if the custard part is a fairly new thing or that did not migrate to the US 🤔
I think in America it's just more common to serve it with coffee. So the sweetness pairs with the bitterness.
As far as "arany galuska" goes, with the custard included, it's treated like a complete dish. Claire! I made monkey bread from scratch 3 days ago! I wish I would’ve waited, but I suppose I could always make more ☺️
Why does the thumbnail look like Claire is being devoured by giant sentient monkey bread lol

oeh! Browned butter sounds good!
Looks delicious as always!!
Casually flashing a container full of vanilla beans is like the person who opens their wallet filled with fifty dollar bills
Exactly! Ha! I was thinking that same thing in a less funny way. Good one!
Looks delicious- luv your naturalness when turning out your monkey bread - and the delight your face when it was perfect - hope your cat was ok 😺
used to love grape nuts mixed in yoplait strawberry - great texture food for a kid
the music in the show is like something outa Chowder or Midnight GospeL!!!
Can't wait to do Christmas baking with your recipes!
We’ve used frozen yeasted dinner rolls since I can remember.
It’s way easier and tastes more or less the same.
curious: what would it look like if a dough did NOT pass the poke test? would it just not spring back? does that mean it needs to proof longer or it's proofed too long?
Probably under proofed
Could be both!
Looks so beautiful Claire love it love monkey bread ❤
College has been so hard. Imma catch up to Claire contents.
Can we have a Panettone recipe please 🙏🏻 ❤
If we wanted to make a nut-free version, what else could you use to balance the sweetness of the bread?
less sugar

Archie looks like he is stoned out of his mind. So cute & funny....and another great recipe Claire! 😋
Thank you Claire I'll make this for Christmas day
Gonna try this for Christmas :) My Finnish relatives don't know what Monkey bread is :) Should be fun.
MMMMMMMMMM! I GOING TO BE MAKING THIS OVER THE HOLIDAY!!!

I would like an episode where the camera guys do the cooking please

Monkey Bread is also the german name for the baobab fruit, which looks a bit like this cake inside
This is a great recipe. I'll definitely make it if I have any monkeys over.
If you don’t have vanilla bean, you can buy forth&heart vanilla bean ghee! Then dip them in melted vanilla bean ghee 🤤
And I’m doing this but I’m thinking of using date sugar because I love a date-pecan flavor combination.
Of course a cat would decide to interrupt the "mmm" moment, because cats will be cats... :P
My Great Aunt Molly's recipe is still the most perfect for it.

Future Clairify question: What is a good textural nut substitute? I have friends with allergies.
Maybe grape nuts cereal?
Seeds are usually okay for those with nut allergies. You could use pumpkin seeds here and I think it would taste really nice
@@kjdude8765 Today I learned that Grape Nuts cereal contains neither grapes nor nuts.
@@London1869 I had to check too!

If the video has Claire, I’m watching it. It’s that simple.
Can I humbly ask if there will be end of year bloopers or BTS?
I’d love to see an episode on naturally leavened doughs… using sourdough starter for brioche, sweet yeast dough, bagels, etc.
This makes my mouth water but I’m allergic to nuts so I’ll leave them out. I’ll be the only monkey eating it lol
Love you Claire❤
Claire, where do you get your vanilla beans from?
Probably that company she collabed with a couple months back from New Zealand
Lol we always used to serve this for Christmas brunch, but in these pandemic days I can't imagine everyone having to pull it apart with their hands 😂😂
Put 4-5 in a muffin tray. Maybe it’ll be kinda the same but different lol
just ask them to do a handwash before pulling? seems okay if they can scrub hands together and wash
this is so cool
Oh sweet dear Archie! I used to purposefully throw up for attention when I was a kid too 😜
How many dough balls should you need?
The fact that Claire has two fans of grape nuts within a few feet of her should have been the topic of this video.
Your the BEST CLAIRE ❤️🎅🏻💚
Cal is my new crush.
