Him, Jerry Ellsworth, Steve Wozniak, etc. Both a better place and a beacon of inspiration. It's people like them that I couldn't be more thankful to exist within the same era of time.
Wow, he sounds a lot like my own experience with school. I used to skip school so I could read up on electronics at the library. Sadly, my childhood in school was before the internet existed. We just had the library. I ended up being self taught in programming, math (nothing like what he has learned). Programmed my own video games. And now that I have found Ben's electronic videos, my old childhood love of electronics has been rekindled. Thanks. He's absolutely right about schools, we need people like him to redo how our education system works to be honest. How many kids are slipping through the cracks that didn't have the resources or opportunities he did.
Keep up the great work Ben. I am 50yrs old and you have taught me more about the "guts" of a computer than I ever learned in school. You and Khan Academy have changed a lot of lives! THANK YOU!!
He has been doing an amazing job of explaining the process of making an 8-bit computer, his videos on flip flops and latches have helped me a great deal with my DLD course exams.
Just went through 4 of your videos explaining flip-flops and latches. Got side tracked seeing this in the suggested videos because I wanted to know why you were so good at explaining these things. I learned more about digital logic watching your videos than I did in my entire semester course at University. So glad to have stumbled by you, Keep up the good work!
Superb chap! I would love to have a drink with him sometime and just talk hours and hours about cool stuff. Thanks Ben, for making the world a better place.
for some reason I always imagined him as this old 60'yo university veteran. kinda uplifting seing someone so young having such a vast knowledge, it gives me hope.
And if that wasn't enough, that guy is currently making probably the best video tutorial on building a full-blown 8-bit computer from simple TTL logic chips on breadboards :) Go figure, they're _really_ good :>
That's the problem with these links: I posted a link three times already, but UA-cam doesn't show my comments with these links (which is weird, because it works with other links :P ). Censorship much? :P Blame Google ;° But as +Meta Custom Computers said, you can simply search for "Ben Eater" and you shall find his channel. Then the several recent videos are about this computer and how to build it step by step, with nice explanations of how each of the modules work. There are also other digital electronics tutorials on his channel which I also encourage you to watch.
Yeah, but all the parts are reusable for other purposes, including the breadboards. And by building this computer you can understand how it all works, contrary to Raspberry Pi which is "closed hardware" (it's quite hard to even get the datasheets and pinouts of the chips used, not to mention understanding how they work inside).
I was already following him daily with his 8bit computer. Now I understand why he resonated so much with me .Same experience with the education system . Great guy :)
I am very happy with this testimony. We basically have the same history, related to fail in graduate and start tech carrers and after to build a Tech company. Thanks a lot for your guidance and passion. MVFM from Brazil.
The derivative intuition module, for those of you who are unfamiliar: ua-cam.com/video/HtvikVD9aa0/v-deo.html So glad Ben Eater found his place with KA.
I don't that luck is a free gift or path to success because I believe that the chance favors the prepared mind. So yes you were lucky but no one was well prepared as you were for this chance.
it's guys like Ben, decent intelligent and humble guys, who can make the world a better place
Well stated! I can't agree with you more.
Him, Jerry Ellsworth, Steve Wozniak, etc. Both a better place and a beacon of inspiration. It's people like them that I couldn't be more thankful to exist within the same era of time.
The man who made a CPU on a breadboard.
Not everyone uploads a tutorial videos on how to build one. Learn how to appreciate other's efforts
he has the most educative videos have seen..thanks ben eater
Not really. the complexity is the limiting factor and breadboarding is quite a finicky process that requires insane patience especially at scale.
Thank you guys for the bright side of internet.
Ben Eater, you ROCK. Having the patience, the generosity and the dedication to something without expecting pay, is a very rare trait nowadays.
This guy is a legend. I have never learned so much stuff in 2 days as with his recent videos. Thanks man.

Discovered this guy today, and have already watched ~3 hours of his vids! absolutely incredible skill for explaining complex things
Tremendous story! You can see the passion in his eyes at the end. Heartening to watch organizations like this begin to make a difference.

Thank you Ben, you didn't make me give up on Calculus.
Really a tremendous interview!!
Love your videos Ben, and knowing that you are working for Khan Academy just puts a cherry on the pie!!! 😎
Ben is amazing. His own videos on latches and breadboard computers are absolutely amazing.
Inspirational. There are always bumps along the way in life. Keep searching. Never give in. Never give up.
what a genuinely good honest bloke.
