Medieval village is abandoned. It used to be an area where people could buy merch from the show and things like that. Homeless people are seen there at night. I had a friend that worked at medieval times and she got attacked in the parking lot late at night when she was leaving. They only use the main arena. The show features horses which is my favorite part if you ever wanted to see it.

You took me back many years on that drive. Such good memories of driving up and down the 192 when I was young. We found the best truck stop diner ever about 20-25 years ago where I would get a 'working boy' breakfast and my dad would get a 'working man', steak, eggs and lots more for breakfast all for like $5. I miss those days. Thanks for the memories

I lived in Orlando in the 60's and 70's, and went to many airshows at Kissimmee Airport. Its good to see Silver Spurs Rodeo is still going on, it falls on hard times every now and then, hope the covid doesn't hit it too hard ! Good video, thanks for posting !

The first abandoned resort (Orlando Sun Resort) was once the great Orlando Hyatt Hotel. I stayed there many times in the late 70’s and early 80’s. The spot you referred to as a check-in building may have once served that task, but I only remember it being used as travel info/tickets/gift shop. The Hyatt had a great lobby which featured two restaurants, Limey Jim’s (a British pub) and another themed with bicycles or umbrellas (was it called Gatsby's?), I can’t recall which now. They had a fairly large game room/arcade with cutting edge games for the time... Crazy Climber, Berzerk, Galaga, Kangaroo, etc. If you look at a satellite image of the property, it featured 4 “pods” with clusters of buildings, each with it’s own pool in the center. To walk from your room to the lobby sometimes was quite a trek, as you often had to travel through 5-6 buildings to get to your destination. It was one of the first hotels I remember with electronic locks. The plastic keys had an array of holes which were read by the door lock when inserted. It was a strange mash-up of analog and digital technology. The cards themselves did not have a mag strip or RFID tag. The location was also popular for conventions as it had a sizable convention center. It was a great place to stay and was the closest you could get to WDW without being on property for many years.

J D our first trip to orlando as a kid , i was 10 we stayed there and went to disney world. First place i stayed without hard keys. We bought books of tickets for disney at that ticket center. I still have a few of the tickets we didn’t use. On the way down we stopped on Florida turnpike and picked oranges right by the turnpike. Eventually in 90’s i went to work for Hyatt overseas and forgot about this hotel until now.

When Disney World first opened there was huge demand for motel rooms. As Disney built more hotels on property that left these older motels in a difficult situation.

192 was and is still the main corridor to wdw from the turnpike. My family did the journey from the early 1980s through the 1990s when we lived in Miami. I miss my childhood memories and the wdw of those times.

I remember when I was a kid in the 80s, you used to have to drive down this long road of motels, hotels, and gift shops to get to the Disney parks. When they built the direct access routes to the parks all of these places slowly died.

30+ yr resident of Kissimmee here. Orange Bowl has been there since the 60’s. Lots of things to see if you pull off 192. And from another video you posted Pioneer Village is not that empty building you passed. It is still there! It’s all the way back. Part of Shingle Creek. There’s bike/walking path from the Welcome center that will take you back there as well. Beautiful area

I’ve stayed at the first location many years ago, late 80s early 90s. It wasn’t that great then, The food location looked like a mall food court, very dated, and even dusty back then. If you’re wondering about the tree signs that’s due to the homeless population in Kissimmee along that road. They’re trying to prevent encampments of tents from popping up there. Being across from Celebration that is more of the “upscale” area of the 192. If you notice along 192 where the bus stops are, you’ll see signs there too. They made the bus stop benches impossible to lay down on because people were sleeping on the benches. That flight museum will take you for a flight too. It’s a big yellow warbird plane. I’ve heard they take pictures of people in the cockpit while in flight, not sure if they still do that though. For the bowling, yes the neon still works, when they turn it on, it’s been there for at least 35 years. I remember passing by on way to Disney when I was very young, early 80s. 👍🏻

The Silver Spurs arena between Kissimmee and St. Cloud was originally an outdoor rodeo that was started by the members of the Spurs club for their own entertainment. Then it became a very well know rodeo that riders from all over the nation came to compete. Great times back then. The old bowling lanes opened around 1960 was one of very few entertainment places we had back then

I went to several Star Trek conventions at the first stop on your tour. They sold things like airboat tours and rides to Tampa for Busch Gardens at the excursion kiosk. As a teen I’d stay at the Magic Castle motel when I’d come down to Orlando for the weekend to see my friends at UCF while I was still in high school. They’d let us stay for $19.99 if we had a signed form from our parents. It was a dump with huge spiders and stained linens. And then became the set of “The Florida Project” film with Willem Dafoe.

That abandoned resort was once a Hyatt until it closed in the early 2000s. It used to be the first thing you would see driving into the Orlando area from Tampa on I-4 and The last exit before the Disney exit. a there was even a large Hyatt resort sign greeting visitors to the area.
I'm surprised that it sits there abandoned, and seemingly has been for many years. Even though you can't see it as well from the interstate as they used to be, I would imagine it would still be a desirable location.

Started visiting Kissimmee from the UK 1998 and every couple of years until 2018,usually stayed around highway 192 and saw a few changes over the years and for me not so good changes IMO. one favourite place was at St. Cloud old farmers market next to the Turnpike, loads of market stalls and weekends had locals doing country karaoke happy memories for me but like a lot of others all gone now, Cracker house Bar as well. Initially did the tourist stuff but eventually got out and about. Really miss visiting loved the "atmosphere" and smells etc renting a villa with private pool and chilling in nice warm evenings although hated driving in the Florida rain, one trip driving 192 from Melbourne back to Kissimmee rain was so heavy could not see out the windshield front or back fortunately got to St Cloud and came off the highway until the rain eased off a bit.

In 1978 my wife and I came down to Florida and stayed in a brand new motel that was within the first 2 miles on 192 and backed up to a lake. We cannot find this motel now! Do you have any idea where this went? My wife beat me at mini golf there, we had been married for 1 yr.

You are missing out. Medieval Times is the best dinner theatre show ever. Their food is fantastic and the show is spectacular. We go several times a year.

I do believe I seen the first hotel. I think I passed it leaving the Melia Hotel. I was shocked to see an abandoned hotel in Florida.

    So cool.
    Love Vlogs like this.
Coming from California, for the most part I've only seen WDW, Universal, and MCO in Central Florida. But I definitely have interest in seeing the other areas. I just haven't been willing to use my valuable vacation time to explore further.

I didn't even think about all the non Disney or Universal hotels around the area and how they are fairing, but I expect we might see a lot more abandoned hotels in the next few years.

@@bjornemccomb8262 If I'm not mistaken sadly but true it close down about six years ago. It was open for many years as soon as you got off I-4 in exit 64. I should know because I live and grew up in Tampa, Florida. Which is just like a 45 minute drive on a good day from my house. And just like he's showing many places that are closed now. I've been going out there for almost for about 43 years. Back when you would to the parks and stay either at I-192 or International Drive area to save money. I remember Water Mania on I-192, many Days Inn hotels, Howard Johnson's including their restaurants. The big orange gift shop which have been there for more than 55 years before Magic Kingdom opened back in 1971. And Sea World back in the late 70's and the 80's had right outside the park next to their parking lot a big giant tent, that once you left Sea World you would go and it had places to eat, shop. I remembered because I would go even before Epcot Center opened in the year of 1982. And I-192 is full of outlet stores, indoor flea markets and of course many gift shops. I haven't been there this year, so I don't how many of these places are still open now due to this pandemic. But those who love shopping and sight seeing like myself besides going to the parks. This is the place to go Including many outlet stores Including the Nike outlet store pass the Orange World store heading east. God bless and stay safe everybody.

My father built the Xanadu homes. The spray foam used in these domes is carcinogenic, flammable and very toxic. He died from cancer due to exposure of those spray foams. Back in the day they didn’t use protective equipment etc. wonder why homes of the future were never built this way with this stuff? See my comment above.
