  • A driving tour of the campground area at Wakami Lake Provincial Park in Northern Ontario. The park is located around 70 kilometres south of the town of Chapleau, 250 KM northeast of Sault Ste. Marie and 660 KM north of Toronto.
The remote campground has just 59 sites and you won't find flush toilets or electrical hook-ups. You also will have no use for a cell phone anywhere near here unless you have satellite service.
The lake is beautiful and popular with anglers. Walleye, Northern Pike, Lake Whitefish, Yellow Perch and White Sucker can be found in these waters.
There are a few nature trails with distances less than 3km in the park. There once was the 75km Height of Lands trail that circumvented the lake but I believe it has been abandoned.

Great tour, Tom! I wish every park had a "walk"-through like this, to get a gauge on what the sites are like. For someone who has to drive 8 hours to get there, it's a huge help!

Yes - it's a long haul but well worth it! Last time, we went up by Timmins and stayed at Ivanhoe for a few nights first - nice park but not the solitude you can get from Wakami and the surrounding area

First time I went to wakami was in 2004, I was 18. Been many times since and I'm going again in a few days for a week. It's beautiful and good for you're soul. Plus the fishing is great.
