My dad drove us overnight for 800 km (500 miles) in his Ford Fairlane to watch the Klopse in 1967, I was 6 years old at the time. It was an experience I shall never forget. The Klopse embodies everything that is joyful and hopeful and positive about humankind.
Somebody who knows how to contact Francois Pienaar should forward this to him. Apparently, he has good connections with FNB. This Kaapse Klopse carnival should be sponsored big time. Then SuperSport will also get involved. Next thing, it is bigger than Rio or the Mardi Gras!
As a child living near Cape Town, I spent every year of my young life enjoying the "Kaapse Klopse". Young and old, all cultures of South Africa come together as one, no racial issues are present, no fighting is going on, and there is no worry in the world. Even at 50, I enjoy watching them and enjoying the atmosphere. Great job with the upload, thanks for sharing.
Yoh there's nothing better than the klopse. In my younger days we went to Goodwood Showgrounds( now called or named Grandwest Casino) to watch our guys performances and it really was worthwhile and enjoyable.
It 2as a normal day, nothing special, just going to class waiting on a mini taxi, I got in next to the driver, he turned the volume up, an old familiar song began playing : en in die grond, was daar n gat, dis die gat in die grond en die groen Gras groei daar rond, everybody started singing, I turned around and saw it was filled with klopse, we sang 'dis die boom in gat en die groen gras groei daar rond' all the way to Cape Town. We were jigging and jiving more and more wirh every line, singing faster and faster and I swear there were even rainbows and glitter rain gushing out of that taxi 🤣 when I got off, I was a different human being all together. One of my most precious random slice of life human experiences in all of life's gloom and doom. Long live the klopse and God bless them! Best energy in the world!
What happened to the bands? Mostly drums and brass nowadays and the no dancing 🤦♂️ Thanks for the upload though, it brought back some good memories. 👍
I think the heat took its toll on each and every team but non the less all teams put up a show through the heat even with having to take breaks or cutting bands or allowing percussionist to carry the team for a while think every body understood the conditions but what people noticed is the team is not dependent on their bands as much as they thort their were teams with not so great bands and not so great songs but the klops was vibing non the less thanks again to all teams from the original wild apache right up to west London all stars you guys don't get the thanks you deserve well done to all...
Ek het my familie van Namibie gister soontoe gebring.. Hulle het dit GEWELDIG geniet.. Die wag vir die troepe om op te daag, het hulle bietjie kla gemaak, though.. 🤨
I honestly wish our youth in cape town had asked their parents or grandparents if they were alive... Where does this celebration originate from? Many will say that they don't know!!! But the truth is that this was part of slavery... Where their forefathers were enslaved!!! How sad we are carrying on this stupid tradition for their MASters.
Thank you for your comments. Yes I believe that not everyone know the history. Most are just enjoying the entertainment, but don’t know the origins. Thank you for watching 🙏

There was also a dinky version of the Blue Train in Sea Point at that time. Another wonderful memory riding on that.
Absolutely spot on!! It’s an amazing experience. Thank you for watching 🙏

@@walkthisway001В параде участвуют только музыканты?
It will never feel the same again, aftet their in-fighting a few years ago. They killed their own street cred, sadly.
I hear you. It's a real pity because so many people look forward to this event. Thank you for watching 🙏
Which year you speaking about???

That is awesome. I agree - there was a long wait between groups, considering the heat. But it was worth it in the end. Thanks for watching 🙏

Red and white group doesn't communicate each other, 👎👎👎👎👎
Yeah I must admit, some groups were better than others. And some more organised.
