Scriptwriting is a forgotten art in Hollywood.
This is for JJ Abrams. For the Colombia salute, The greatest of the British Mod Comedies Georgie Girl 1966 was not included in the Colombia Salute. Georgie Girl is a classic. I believe due to fact that the film is British, it gets neglected.
You can add Billy Liar as one of the neglected British films.
Always glad to see Frank Capra's films get a shoutout. You Can't Take It With You is one of his most underrated works nowadays. A wonderful pick by J.J. Abrams.
Capra's MEET JOHN DOE(1941) w/ Gary Cooper, Barbra Stanwyck is about an attempted corporate coup in America headed by D. B. Norton aka J. P. Morgan. Free on UA-cam
It’s in my top 10. I could watch it all day. It has my favorite actor- Lionel Barrymore. I just love him. Also Ann Doran , Jean Arthur and oops the guy who plays Jimmy Stewart’s dad.
It the perfect film.
You forgot about the wonderful actress Jean Arthur
The actor you are referring to is the great character actor Edward Arnold.
@@MareShoop You haven't seen Lionel Barrymore in the Dr
Kildare Series.
Shampoo is a great movie. A little time capsule, slice of life. Having known many hairdressers of that time and knowing Warren's persona, this was a great part for him. The supporting cast, if you can call it that, is superb. Goldie, Lee , Jack and Carrie are wonderful.
Agree. Shampoo was a clever, edgy comedy. One of my favorites. The cast was terrific, esp Jack Warden and Lee Grant. Great music soundtrack, too. 👍
JULIE CHRISTIE!!!!!!!!!!
I see your point and agree totally with what you say. I guess what I am trying to convey is Bonnie and Clyde are/were real people in history and they murdered real innocent people. I never saw Get Carter. The other movies you mentioned I don't think were based on real people even though the Mafia is real. If you want to politely disagree like you politely did before by all means. P.S. i never say Stuart Little 1 or 2 like the above comment recommended!!!.....

1: 38:45. In 3 DAYS OF THE CONDOR, Faye Dunaway's brilliant and heartbreaking reaction to Robert Redford when he asks her, "Kathy, I need time...Don't go to the police immediately." I've never forgotten it.
My parents were rather bohemian and took me to the drive in to see Bonnie and Clyde - I was 5 years old. Nevertheless I was a hoodlum until I I was in my 20’s.
I may not always love, or even like, J.J.'s work (though I'll always be thankful to him for Felicity), but the man has impeccable taste in movies. All his picks are perfect 10s!
The love for Shampoo (a film that is sadly largely forgotten these days) and Close Encounters (a film that sometimes gets sidelined in favor of Spielberg's other more celebrated works) especially, was really refreshing to see!
Kudos to you, sir!
Interesting choice as a curator and his selections were interesting in and of themselves. I'm surprised by the number of comedies that he chose, not so surprised he chose an early Spielberg film though lol. I'll have to check out 'Shampoo' based on his recommendation
This week's movie: Mary Poppins Meets Frankenstein...starring Dame Mae Fishman
I'm shocked every pick wasn't just Spielberg and Lucas movies.
That’s enough grant December
is over its January 😱
Dear Turner Classic Movies,
Please contact British WWE Superstar, William Regal, and ask which classic movies do he pick.
Align with some of your choices, J.J. Best in the New Year, TCM, you're often hearth for me, very anchoring.
Love all your picks!
Great picks thank you
Thank you for these reminders that some excellent movies will be shown. Like all the picks. Bonnie and Clyde I saw again a couple years ago….excellent. Love all the others.
good calls
My favorite Frank Capra film is MEET JOHN DOE(1941) w/ Gary Cooper and Barbra Stanwyck about a corporate coup loosely based on the business plot and Gen. Smedley Butler in 1933.
"Mime is money!" 🤭
❤❤❤❤❤
Ask him what Star Wars is about 😂 he doesn’t know 🤦♀️ 🤦♂️
When will we see Duster come to out?
Oh shocker he chose a Spielberg movie. 🤣
So?
Zany, sweet, and touching. I was literally thinking of You Can’t Take It With You this morning. The other three films were splendid as well. Bonnie & Clyde & Shampoo - meh. Very Hollywood.
My favorite films of J.J. Abrams are Episodes VII & IX of the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy and the 2009 Star Trek film 🎞️
I’m glad J.J. picked Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind as one of his favorites 🎥
Jar Jar, do us a favor, retire.
Sincerely,
America
