Definitely Kevin a tribute to legendary jam band innovator Phil Lesh an all time bass player I still have my PHIL✨ZONE 👕 FZappa20 love ❤️ your recaps😊 Much respect to you ‼️ Kaboom 💥 👊‼️
I had just gotten home from work last night and checked out the set one opener on UA-cam. I was blown away and so happy. Then I heard the news. I realized why they played it. I am absolutely despondent. Rest in peace, Pride of Cucamonga.
I mean, they swore off covering Dead songs years ago now. Trey even mentioned it on the Maron interview a couple months ago. Very likely wasn't rehearsed. Not bad for playing it cold to open and was a very cool tribute to Phil.
First time I ever saw Trey live he was playing at fare thee well with Phil Lesh by his side. So the first song I ever heard trey play live was box of rain, which is one of my favorite dead songs. The tribute tonight was beautiful. Blaze on kind of has a Grateful Dead feel so it feels right they played it. You should listen to the Phil Lesh and friends shows with Trey and Page from 1999 and do a video on those! Rip Phil!
Phil Lesh top 5, not in particular order: Exploring music via improvisation, Cody, his family (by blood, and his musician brothers and sisters), Dead heads, the catalog of music he's been part of creating. RIP Phil. Thanks FZappa20 for acknowledging what a great guy Phil was.
The crowd went nuts for Box of Rain. Monsters definitely felt like it could've closed the set. Guy walking to the garage near me, said he was melted, so tomorrow night, he's just going to drink beers and give money to the Divided Sky Foundation.
I imagine the tribute to Phil had been discussed and planned well before Phil died. BOR was the obvious choice, and since the band already knew the song, it wouldn't have taken much preparation to simply plug the song in as the opener when the time came. A predictable -- but no less classy -- way to honor Phil.
@@AbeBSea Right you are on both points. Box of Rain is lyrically complex, but the music itself is 5 basic chords, with a couple of minor sevenths thrown in here and there.) It's one of the easier Dead songs to play. Unbroken Chain, on the other hand, has at least a dozen chords and half of them are all over the map. Sevenths, fourths, suspended -- you name it. Not that Phish couldn't easily play it, but it would have taken a few more rehearsals to make it concert-ready. Probably better to go with the better-known song in this case as well.
Are Dead and Company gonna use John Mayers bassist now? I already was an organ donor after my dad passed in 2005 and donated his entire body to science before cremation. I’m proud to say I agree with Phil about organ donation. It is so selfish even in death to be that stingy and greedy Describe the Reba shirt? Oh moma dance why must you always be in the same slot every time played. Set 2 opener just once would be so sexy and funky Piper>light>tweezer>howling was juicy and my highlights of the night Howling finally makes sense and is appropriate. It is a chilling thrilling song only isn’t but Halloween and professor lupin for sure
This is where I finally completely lost it over Phil, was weeping throughout the entire Box. LOVE YOU PHIL!!! you will be missed. Boom FZ, Respect
Good evening. Rest in peace, Phil Lesh.
Good morning, rather.
RIP Phil Lesh, Phish did a great job honoring him even with such a short window of time before the show.
@@olegbrennan8693 Classy move.
I put organ donor on my license 25 years ago because of Phil , still have it on there
RIP Phil. He was a once-in-a-lifetime human being and musician. 🙏❤️

Phil finally meets and thanks Cody.
I didn’t listen to anything but the box. It wasn’t a great version but was super happy to hear them play and to honor Phil.
I mean, they swore off covering Dead songs years ago now. Trey even mentioned it on the Maron interview a couple months ago. Very likely wasn't rehearsed. Not bad for playing it cold to open and was a very cool tribute to Phil.
@@BAM5636 so you agree. Thanks dude. I didn’t diss it. We’ve all heard it a zillion times.
Box of Rain made me tear up for the 2nd time today. Mrs Spud pointed out it was a very Halloweenish show. Loved it!

Thinking of Phil Today!!! such a great person and what hes done for organ donation

Bass Great ~ Lesh Filling
Thanks for a great recap!
Donating my organs!!! ❤
Both Trey and Mike posted beautiful Phil tributes

Wow 🎉 that setlist ❤
Lesh was MORE🎉
Rest In Power ❤
Did you just see what I saw? ⚾⚾⚾⚾
Anyone else hear Mike drop the shakedown Street riff in the howling?
thanks fz! rip Phil!
well done Zaps
Fare the wall Phil.
Box of Rain is a hard song to play.
Yes fairly challenging but rewarding to work it out. I could never sing it without cracking a little though knowing what its about.
1) Bomb dropping 2) Wristbands 3) Organ donations 4) Brahms 1st Symphony 5) The community (In no particular order. BOOM.
Boom!
Mike should have done the BoR vocals..
rip phil
JAMMED ME UP ON THE WHITEBOARD HARD
Almost a total loss
Hell yeah! Organ donor! Good work

I think Unbroken Chain was the other obvious choice, but I think it's more complicated than BoR

If both songs could have been played with the same aplomb, BoR was still the most appropriate song to honor Phil.
@@AbeBSea Indeed.
do you think mike just carrys aroud a phil wristband or did they have to go out and buy one?
I'd guess someone happened to have one. Crew member perhaps
Just a box of rain idk who put it there.
turning the whole night into a joke apparently.. lol
Dicks Monsters was killer too. Well placed.
