  • Known as the Crab Eater or the Crabier, the Yellow Crowned Night Heron, has a distinct and short “woc” call. This wading bird can be found throughout coastal mangroves and inland hardwood swamps. Adults can be identified by their grey body having a white-crowned head and white cheek patches. However, in breeding season the heron will have a vibrant yellow patch upon the forehead.

    There are my favorites! I saw these a lot when I lived at Corkscrew Swamp near Naples, Florida.
