I have had the pleasure of admiring Gustav Klimt's paintings up close on several trips to the wonderful city of Vienna and consider myself a big fan of his work...Thank you for this excellent summing up of who he was artistically, regardless of how he has been perceived by various groups or individuals throughout his own life and thereafter...
Vienna is indeed very heavily centered around Mozart, Klimt, and Schiele, as well as the famous Staatsoper. It's refreshing. The buskers sing opera and play classical music. The opera is the main social activity. Art is also at the heart of the city, especially Klimt.
@@alexanderkarayannis6425 I cannot claim to be someone who loves or understands art (I subscribe to this channel because the explanations help increase my meager appreciation of art), but Vienna is worthwhile for everyone to visit. It is impressive to see a modern city so truly grounded in classical music and art.
I live in PA and have been to Vienna 15 times to visit works by Klimt, plus his grave, his last studio, and a castle in Romania where he painted huge realistic full-length portraits going down a grand staircase early in his career. His muse was Emilie Fluge, a couture fashion designer, and I always visit her atelier, and sometimes attersee, the lake in central Austria where Klimt spent summers with Emilie, relaxing, boating, ang painting trees and water. @@GreatArtExplained I was also about to ask this, as if guessing the answer in my mind... What sinister times we are going through! How is it possible to censor an excellent Art History class like this, the best approach to Klimt I've ever seen, when they allow swarms of disinformation channels to proliferate and promote alienating content from mediocre influencers?
I sincerely hope UA-cam sees how thoughtful, inspiring, AND edifying this channel is instead of obsessing and overreacting to minutia. These videos are a public service IMHO, and are well worth multiple viewings! Just like the arts they celebrate!

As a side note, it's always heart-breaking to hear/see what the Nazis did with countless works they stole. The scene of the soldiers setting fire to all the canvasses is just disturbing.
Thank you for reposting this after editing out pubic-area nudity that should not have resulted in UA-cam taking down the original. I will share this far and wide to show appreciation for your time and energy spent on this endeavor.

Glad I could rewatch this one, censored as it is, as its one of my favorites of yours. The nazi's degenerate art show is one of my favorite stories from art history since it has so much relevance to today. I want to say that THIS video out of all of them would get censored is ironic, but i think we both just know its more a case of history repeating, or getting close to it.
