    I got my Speedy Reduced 3539.50 this week and I’m loving it. It’s my first Speedy and will definitely be keeping it! 😅

    I recently tried on a Speedmaster Reduced that somebody local to me was selling, and I loved it. Expected the bracelet to be a bit weak and jangly but it was amazingly comfortable. Sadly I'm in a similar boat to you where I need to sell some other watches before buying something like this, and I haven't gotten around to doing that yet, so I missed that listing, but a Speedy Reduced is definitely still on my radar.

    Thank you for this. I had completely written off the Reduced because of my misguided impression that I should only be considering wider watches of at least 40mm. But your review is awesome and very compelling. I shouldn't be restricting myself simply because of a couple of millimeters. I don't think I should be spending $2000-$4000 more just to get a slightly wider watch.

    I was considering the speedy reduced but ended up getting the 3511.50. I liked having a date function and also the domed sapphire. But it’s the same 38.5mm diameter as the reduced although a bit thicker, but it fits beautifully on my smaller wrist.

    Excellent review, thanks. I've just got a Speedy Reduced and am really enjoying it so far. I have a 42mm cream dialed Broadarrow which I also love and always felt I needed the larger size for my 7.25 inch wrist but I am pleased the smaller reduced looks and feels right on me. It is comfortable and more subtle and I like that, not to mention still very good value despite the prices starting to creep up.

    The Reduced has the absolutely best Speedmaster dial and size relation in my opinion. If Omega reissued it exactly as it was in updated specifications i would buy it. Meanwhile i wish someone did a decent homage of it, since it's discontinued.

    • @ImpulsiveWatches
      @ImpulsiveWatches  6 місяців тому +3

      Couldn't agree more. If they could fix the dial spacing and pusher positioning while they're at it, it'd be pretty close to flawless.

    I’m thinking about getting a speedmaster reduced myself given my “reduced” wrist size and crazy price hikes on the professional range.

    Great video, really enjoyed. I have a 6.5 inch wrist and like you wrote off the 3861 Speedy due to 42mm (I usually wear 36mm to 39mm). Then i got the chance to try one one and was really surprised at how well it fit. The lyre lugs really made a difference to help wearability.

    The reduced is a fantastic watch. Have had mine now for over 30 years and it keeps ticking (and highly accurate at that). I added a 1861 later as well. Both different (unless you ask my wife) and both great. I’d never part with either.
    And yes, the bracelets are fantastic on the reduced. Way better than the ones they now put on the 3861.

    • @91dimi
      @91dimi 5 місяців тому

      I bought one a few days ago from 1998. Is it normal to have an accuracy of -20 seconds a day for a vintage watch? And is it normal, that after standing still it doesn’t move by handmoving but needs to be winded on the crown?

    • @Jamezzee
      @Jamezzee 4 місяці тому

      @@91dimi 20 seconds seems too much for me, it might be magnetised, or if you are using the stop watch as a seconds hand then this will effect accuracy too.
      On forums I read 8 seconds is ok but
      I have my dad’s 1990 reduced and had omega service it, and it deviates 2 or 3secs a day, very accurate. Might be vintage but It’s got the respected 2892 movement, which was tinkered with by omega, so it should be decent

    If you think the subdials are misplaced, take a look at the Daytona Paul Newman or many classic chronographs from the past. It’s a very common design, if anything I think the Professional’s ones are much too centered, it makes me think of a small movement in a big case.

  • @marsmanic1666

    I always assume that I'd have to go the reduced path, because same as you I usually stick to 36 - 40 range. However it was trying on a MoonSwatch (which has the same dims as the Professional) that made me realise that the professional wears much more like a 40mm.
    Which is going to cost me a bit more cash now! Not had the chance to wear a Reduced, but i'd now worry that it would be too small for me

  • @seanpham67
    @seanpham67 6 місяців тому +1

    I was thinking about the reduced too, but I don’t like the dial proportions. I got the speedy professional sapphire and it wears really great, because of the lyre lugs design. It’s my biggest watch in my collection. Other than that I wear the OP36, BB54 and Aqua Terra 38.

    Great Video again and a beautiful watch. Omega is my favourite brand, I have a midsized Seamaster quartz (bought new in the late 2000s thanks to a generous tax rebate) and the Speedmaster Pro is my grail watch. I love the aesthetics of the Speedmaster except for one thing, when I look at the twelve o’clock marker all I see is a childish drawing of a phallus, but that probably says more about me than Omega’s design language! So, thank you for this video, I didn’t know about the Speedmaster Reduced before.

  • @Milofchg

    Great vid, but let me assure you. The Speedy Pro is not big. It really wears more like a 40mm especially with a strap or aftermarket bracelet (if you get the 861/1861). I was like you. I owned the reduced for a few years and it took me a long time to make a decision on to get the Pro. I promise you the Speedy pro will suit you. I do miss my reduced and the bracelet is amazing. It makes the reduced wear larger on wrist. The only thing that I didn’t like was the lug width on the reduced. You can save and trade up to a pro. Yes it’s expensive BUT once you wear it for a few weeks. It will become your only watch. I own a few watches affordable awesome Seiko Turtle, a vintage Seiko Chariot Tank from the 70’s, a Rolex 36mm 2021, and a Sub date ceramic super case (which I do not wear because it was a poor decision). My Speedy is my everyday. It goes under the radar and it’s a solid watch. You can pick up a 90’s tritium dial for under $4k USD in good condition. I say give into the Speedy. Good luck, cheers and thank you for posting content

      @@ImpulsiveWatches Sometimes it takes time to connect to a watch. It takes some guys a few times owning then selling then re-buying a Speedy. It took me a few months before I made my decision to buy one. Once I received it after a day wearing, it just worked out for me. It's my 85% daily watch, but if I didn't own two other watches it would be my everyday watch. For me I collect strategically. I tend collect and like watches that are icons that fly under the radar. Each watch I own can be a one and done one watch if needed. Also they are versatile strap monsters for their design and purpose. It took many mistakes, money lost, trial & error, God knows how many watches (some affordable, a few luxury) and 28 years in the hobby to be content. Now on to my grails... Patek Philippe 3940 Perpetual if and when I can save for one or any of these: Rolex Day Date from the 80's, A Lange 1851 Up Down, Patek Philippe Calatrava white gold 5196. My current collection: Rolex Sub 14060M, Rolex Explorer 124070, JLC Reverso Tribute to 1931, Seiko SRP777 Turtle, Panerai Luminor 312, IWC Pilot Mk15, Speedmaster Pro 1861 hesalite. Found a great price, 2016 big box, full kit for $3100.00 1861 included was a OEM leather strap and deployant clasp. It's a journey for sure. Thankfully I was able to find some of these pieces at a good price pre-owned before the 2018-2022 watch hype, and after 2 economic recessions 1998, 2007.

    Only you can decide whether to keep or sell. I have a 1969 Mk 2. It’s an absolute beast and is too big for my skinny wrist. But I love it and love its history. When I open my watch box, this is the first watch I look at! Also , not that it matters to me, but it’s going up in value every month without fail. On the few occasions I do wear it… I feel like a million dollars

    I had a Speedy Reduced and sold it to get the Moon Watch ...... Which I then sold and went back to the Reduced. The Moon Watch weighs a lot and is too thick for what I wanted from my Speedy (silly really as I also own a few interactions of Black Bay which are not exactly slim). My first Reduced is one of two watches I regretted selling. Keep this in mind.
    Be very careful with the eBay authentication thing. They do check the dial and hands via a loupe, the case and any damage listed but that is it. They do NOT inspect the movement, check the movement or even the bracelet. I have literally just found this out to my horror. I purchased a £1550 watch from eBay a year or so ago and took it in for service just recently ...... It's a Franken watch. eBay will not refund me (they banned the seller sometime ago for selling fakes but did not inform me I may have one). I'm now out of pocket. Be very careful!!!!! eBay DO NOT authenticate watches regardless of what they tell you.

Turns out they cannot pressure test that many watches in a timely fashion and don't want to take on the responsibility. Its all there in the T&C's - But who reads those anymore ha. Awesome video as usual. But I have to say, if you have not tried a Professional on wrist, you might well be surprised by how small it wears given the listed 42mm diameter. It is by far my favorite watch and I am lucky enough to have a 3861 and wear it daily. I often look down at my wrist (admittedly not a small one) and wonder if the Omega people really really meant the 42mm number:)

    Public Announcement: Sell the reduced only to buy a pro, the pro is not that big, it wears small. You need to look at watches on the wrist in the mirror from 2 meters away to get a true size on the wrist, lens blow scale out of the water.
