great video - the clips you bought look good (at 0:22) because they have the black rubber 'buffer' part integrated, as the original BMW ones did. I got some and they didn't have them so I had to re-fit the old ones (the old black rubber parts). I'm not sure they are essential but they are probably better installed than not. Many thanks

Great video - I had a sluggish lift and figured I would replace mine, but oddly, my e36/1998 Z3 roadster (US) does not have those sliding clips. Rather it has small round nylon rollers - much like you find on a kitchen drawer extending roller set up. The slot is smaller too, I bought the clips to replace and clearly they are larger than the slotted rail. I cleaned and lubricated and luckliy things are fine. I can't think mine is the only later 1998 with what seems like a much older design.

Good video mate. You did a nice job there.
I have an E36 M3 and it's been in storage mostly the last 5 years or so. Initially the driver's door window stopped working, and it's not a failed window motor as such, it just seems to be jammed somehow. I recently moved the car to another location and to my surprise, now the left one has also jammed up.. sheesh !!
When you press the buttons, you can hear the "click", but no movement.
I've been told it could be a bad bushing. It's a bushing which resides between the motor and the regulator.
Hopefully, I will have a chance to go in and take a look, but I'd thought I'd share my issue here in a hope that others may have had the same problem.
Replacement bushings from BMW show a plastic type and a metal type, but I don't know if the metal ones are supposed to be a superseded part over the plastic or are they specific to perhaps coupe or sedan. Not too sure at this stage.
What is weird is that the car has low mileage and doesn't get much use, so wear and tear is not primarily the issue. One day it worked just just fine and then the next, nothing. Just a click. The tell tale sign, was when I go to open either door and the window drop option didn't do its thing. This was the uh oh moment... Then further checks revealed the inevitable.
I do have a brand new Genuine window motor ready to go in on the driver's side, but I'll have to wait till I get it open and investigate more thoroughly. I may need more parts, like that bushing I mentioned.. If any part looks suspect, it will be replaced. No good having one new and some old parts in there. Freshen the whole lot up so it all works perfectly I reckon, for the few extra bucks.
It's worse having to go back in the second or third time.

Dude. This is exactly my problem too. Both sides now dont work, click sounds, rarely used car etc etc on a '99m3. Purchased motor but i should have done more investigating. I plan on working on it this weekend

@@fatoputso7375 I know the frustration man. One guy said to give the side of the window motor a whack with a dead blow hammer. That seems to do the trick he reckons although I'm yet to try it. You need to pull the motor apart and just see if there is an obstruction. It could also be a bad bushing like I mentioned too. If the motor is electrically ok, then replacing it would be a waste of a "new" motor I think. Just hang onto it in case you have no luck. It may just be that the grease has hardened and it just struggles to turn. Who knows. I haven't had a look at mine as it's gone into storage while I build a big shed. So it may be locked away for another 6 months. Good luck and let us know how you go.

@@tonymontana897door card is off, just bought a used motor on ebay ~$50.00 new bushings from fcp, will report back once received, wish me luck. @@fatoputso7375 I had just bought my 99 M3 when I started dating my now wife and she loved going in it. She hasn't been in it for years though and now It's just a storage Queen until I finish building my new man cave shed. Its going to be huge !
I'd be interested to see what you find in the motor autopsy. I'm confident the exchange motor will work an a new bushing is a must I think. I won't be able to get to do mine until at least 6 months from now, so hopefully all goes well with yours mate.

Aftermarket regulator clips are junk 12years with my e36s and I’ve never had to pull oem bmw regulator cotter pins the way you did shown here past the middle point. A customer brought me regulator clips that aren’t bmw and they kept poping out so I’ll try to lock them in the way you did here and hope I don’t cut my hands in the process. Anyone reading this do yourself a favor and get them thru bmw and just a hard snap will pop the ball into the plastic socket and leave the clip alone no need to pull them further forward than how they were unpacked
